So pretty!
I can't wait to see how you set it!
Thank you, @stracci2000 ! I am thinking of 2 larger side diamonds and some small ones going around it., but no firm idea yet. It’s fun to take some time to imagine possibilities.

Thankyou @mellowyellowgirl and @Garnetgirl ! I am really pleased with the richness of it. I think once set, it will fill a gap in Star rings for me. The other 2 are large and dreamy which I love...I’m all for dramatic size. But sometimes I have wished to have a smaller star ring with a different mood.

It really is a dream come true for me to have a star ruby! Ever since I lost an Indian star ruby ring, which my father gave me as a girl, I’ve been looking for one. I basically lost it soon after he gave it to me .

It came! Beautiful red gummy loveliness! Such a different feeling from the sapphires, fiery and warm, with such a lovely delicate star. I'm excited to see how you set it.

Thank you so much! You’re right, it has such a different feeling to it. I’ve been considering little rose cut diamonds with it because they are soft looking and maybe not too over powering....hmm

Love the look of these rose cuts..but perhaps with rose cut side marquis diamonds on the shoulders.

Some inspirations! I think rose cuts with side rose cut marquis diamonds would be lovely...like the rough line I drew on the middle picture. Clearly, they would be smaller than these!

So glad it arrived! It is full of personality and reminds me of a juicy pomegranate seed too!

Such a beautiful red and I think the delicate star is lovely. Rose cuts are a great idea, they are so romantic.

Thank you! Rose cuts are so romantic, plus I don’t want super sparkle around it because I think it would distract, and yet the ruby needs some diamonds, so rose cuts it is! They also go with the shape better because they are also basically rounded. Really grateful for the second opinion...much appreciated:)

Based on the photos, that is probably the best star ruby I've seen so far.

Can't wait to see how you set it! The ruby is classic, romantic, bold, regal and packs panache. Coupled with your impeccable style, I'm sure whatever you choose will be a stunner :)

Awe, thanks:) I’m hoping to get it set soon! I reached out to David Klass but haven’t heard back yet.

We were in there today, they were swamped by requests for deliveries by Christmas. Including about 20 guys who decided to propose over Christmas so the whole family could see the ring. However they all waited till the last minute to make the decision!!!!

I'm sure you'll here back soon.

That’s reassuring. I imagine it’s a total madhouse around holidays of any kind, but especially at this time of year.

Love your new star. And I loooove your thoughts about the rose cut diamond combo and that organic shape your drew in around the possible diamond halo! You'd do white gold?

I FINALLY recieved the star ruby after an agonizing 5-6 weeks! I had almost given up hope and felt that maybe that it wasn’t meant to be after all...and then it arrived!

One quick outdoor and indoor picture. Neither show the star all that well. It’s a fine one, but complete. It is neither opaque, nor completely translucent, but has a nice texture, in between them. I’m really very happy with it. Color wise, it’s a rich red, sometimes looking like a pomegranate seed in the shade and lovely red in sun light. The shape is just slightly uneven, but not in a distracting way...more like an organic seed.

I’ve always wanted a star ruby and so I’m delighted to have this one! It definitely has a personality.
That’s beautiful! What a rich red it is!

Thank you! It’s great to get some feedback on the idea! Re metal color, I’m tuly undecided. I can imagine it in YG very well, as well as white metal....but I tend to wear more YG in general.

thanks! I’m really happy with the color..,though it does shift to a more pomegranate red in some lights. It remains a lovely color no matter what the light. It’s by no means a ‘perfect’ stone as it has some shape unevenness and an internal inclusion, but I feel super hsppy/ lucky to have it. It has a true personality.I ’m never around much of a selection besides online...and even then, I have found them hard to find. I wish I could be in a place with more star rubies. Would be wonderful to be in Sri Lanka or in Burma as @Burmesedaze is ! ( this one happens to be from Burma, Un heated)

It would be nice to travel to the source. I do think our options are limited online for certain stones. This stone is a great find though. I haven’t seen a star ruby anywhere near as pretty as yours at a gem show either.

@Bluegemz ,
Like most,
Lately, I have been thinking of projects and jewelry items that Id like to complete and collect this year in 2019 and among my many ambitious ones I realized two of them were completely and utterly inspired by you!:rolleyes2:

I just wanted to tell you how lovely your collection is and how gracefully kind and thoughtful a person I see you as.
That grace and gentleness that comes through is very warm and continues to inspire me as I move along in my gemstone journey.

I found myself compelled to tell you this because I doubt that there is enough kindness amongst women in the world, and I believe that when we find ourselves inspired or drawn to certain women or find certian aspects of another lovely we should share those feelings!

Ever since you wrote about navette rings and the mysteriousness that they elluded to, I became drawn to them and set out to find my own. I finally found one that I love that is antique set with small old mine cut diamonds and am in the works of purchasing that one, so fingers crossed!
I also could never get my mind off of your sweet raw emerald ring! I found myself coming back to it in my mind and I love the idea of having an emerald, true to its state. So Im hoping I'll be able to find the perfect blue green crystal emerald this year so I can create my own rough emerald version of your precious ring! I'm thinking of the setting being equally rough as well with two long hammered prongs holding the crystal to the ring.

Just thought I'd let you know and I cannot wait to see how your luscious pomegranate seed of a star ruby turns out!
Do you have any projects that you feel you must accomplish this year?
Feel free to post more snaps! (Especially of that raw emerald ring :kiss2:)

I think that others such as @peacechick have seen this before me and expressed my sentiments exactly. That is indeed a very breathtaking and inspiring ruby! May you enjoy it in good health and happiness. :kiss2:

Thankyou for such a generous and heart warming post! It really means a lot to me. You are so kind...and, I feel the same way about you! I so enjoy reading your posts and feel that I can truly understand/relate to your inspirations.

I am delighted that you’ve been inspired by some of my collection! A navette ring is such a great piece to own, and I’m sure would look so amazing on your fingers. I’m really going you get that one. Pls post lots of pics? I’ve been wearing a navette all week....it just fits the mood these days.

And, I can completely imagine a raw emerald ring on you! Omg, it’s a natural fit! I really hope that you get this project done.:) I’ve been thinking about a spess version of the ring based on some of the gorgeous crystals which I have seen. Plus, I could stack it with the emerald!

Re; projects for this year, first I’d the star ruby. I’ve been working in CADS with David Klass! Very excited about it. Then, maybe having the lavender jade ring reset to match the pendant...though that can wait. Ideally, I’d love some white metal/diamond earrings to go with white metal things, but no rush either.

In the past , I’ve tended to be very undisciplined with purchases, often buying new things because of inspiration rather than pre determined jewelry set building, so plans tend to get differed, so we’ll see what 2019 has in store!

Thank you so much, @voce !

I ended up giving away my ruby ring away to my sister in law over the holidays, during an evening of drinks, so now I really am yearning for another ruby ring....:lol-2:

Speaking of raw crystals, these from TGT are amazing! I can imagine the rhodochrosite in so many ways....
Personally, I think that the sapphire would make a great pendant! Really really love it.

Hi Bluegemz, yes that rhrodochrosite is very attractive. I think the most beautiful gem I have ever seen was a 15ct faceted cushion rhodochrosite from the Sweet Home mine in Colorado that we noticed at a Bonhams mineral auction in May 2018. We had never seen a rhodochrosite before, but this gem almost leaped out of the case at us!! This photo hardly does it justice.

Rhodochrosite USA 15.09ct 4240 $20,000.jpg

I understand Sweet Home rhodochrosite is regarded as the best in class, although very little gem quality material has been taken out of that mine. The gem we saw absolutely glowed, and we were still interested in it even though we discovered the material is too soft to be worn as jewelry (also very difficult to facet). Apparently a lot of mineral collectors were also very interested in that specimen because, on the day of the auction, it soared past high estimate and eventually sold for $20,000!!!

I can well understand your attraction to the Gem Trader crystal, my heart still beats a little faster whenever I see a rhodochrosite! =)2

It’s so cool. I’m seriously tempted by this amazing crystal! The edges are so crisp. It seems to have had almost no abrasion through its life, which is super rare. Plus, the gentle color shifts and it’s carity are beautiful. Truly has an alive-ness to me. Would be heartbreaking to cut it.

I agree, Rhodochrosite is amazing! I saw a number of unfaceted specimens at a museum of natural history...they were cubic crystals in a field of quartz, they also just popped out in color and form. Such delicate, sophisticated color with amazing vivacity. I can only imagine how beautiful that faceted specimen is!

@Bluegemz These colours are so beautiful - and there are many variations, that I used to keep a few pieces of rough on the desk just to look at... They never seem to be transparent in the way a sapphire of the same colour (!) could be - so faceting seems a bit of a fool's errand. I have never set one; today, I would know better what I want.

I imagine that the cloudy, unfaceted ones have a wonderful ‘glow’ to them!
