AntiguaBride- thanks for your thoughts. color is a bit overwhelming, esp. with a color like champage that has so many versions. they are going to send me swatches of the fabric colors so that i can see them. i am very happy about that.

Kaleidoscopic - thanks for the compliments! i sure took me forever to pick a darn gown! i was so indecisive!! but i chose and can''t look back!

i am worried that the maize is yellow as well. i remember thinking that when i saw the swatch in person. all of the girls are way taller than me. i am 5 foot. so i thought if anyone, they could pull of a shorter legth. they are all the rage right now, but i agree the long have that elegant wedding look. i am having an afternoon wedding so that''s why i thought it may be appropriate to go a shorter length. sometimes in pics i find when all the girls have long dresses it can look like a puddle of fabric on the floor. but that''s ok. i think long it is! have you picked BM dresses yet??

If you are concerned about looking a lot shorter than the other girls then I actually think that the 3/4 may be a great way to go - although, there may be a chance that they may not like that they look shorter. I know my girls after trying the dresses on didn''t like that it made them look short.

Actually, for me picking out my dress took about a week but picking out the BM dresses is taking months now! I want everyone to make sure that they feel pretty in them so girls have to agree on a dress and try it on. Getting 5 girls of different shapes and sizes and styles to agree on 1 dress is NOT easy!

Kaleidoscopic- what color flowers are you doing? and although you''ve probably posted this, i may have missed it- when is your wedding?

Kaleidoscopic-i had a similar problem. i want to like it of course, but i really want the BMs to love the dress and feel great and comfy in it as well since they are shelling out the cash for it. we all got together and took a weekend trip to texas to look for a dress. we all pulled dresses from the racks that we liked with them keeping in mind what i didn''t care for. after that, each girl tried on say 6-10. if it din''t look good or they didn''t love it or i didn''t love it they put it in the "no go" pile. if they liked they way it fit or i did or whatever, they put it in the "maybe" pile. then after they had tried on their dresses, they took turns trying on the "maybe" pile until all three could wear/love the dress. from there we had only a couple of contenders. then i put my dress on and saw how it looked with the contenders. we were left with this black floor-length jim hjelm gown.

My wedding is in late August, which they say bright colors are good for.

My bridesmaid dresses will be champaign color - at least that is the plan. But my flowers are going to be in shades of brighter pinks, magenta, lilac, and purples. I will also use greenery that is of bright yellowish green color that matches with pinks and lilacs really well. I'm going for a enchanted garden theme. So we want to have center pieces in the shape of trees and blooming flowers on them.

The color arangement actually works really well with champaign/gold color - I just saw the Godiva choclate store and that is the colors they are using, except they are more pastel in color b/c its a spring theme.

What month is your wedding and what colors are you thinking about? Brown and pink go nice together too.

That is actually how we did it as well. The only problem I had is that not everyone can make it for each fitting and we end up picking gowns we like but then having the other girls try it on and them not fitting well in it. So its been a constant back and forth. I'm so glad that you actually came to a consensus. I am so tired of running around looking for dresses b/c there is always a problem, either someone doesn't like the style, doesn't like the price, or it doesn't fit well, that if there was at least one dress everyone was good with I will order it without hesitation, unless I had a similar problem as you - the color was not what I initially wanted.

wedding is in november. i want to do a fall-colored champagne, if that makes sense, for BM dresses. i will have have these colored peonies- like a deep deep red/wine color. i am also going to get chocolate pashmina''s for them to wear. and the table clothes will be chcocolate brown.

I totally love that deep red, almost like a deep burgandy color - I think it will be perfect for November. Also if you need another flower color to work with, I think a deep purple would be nice too. Browns and beiges will go very very well with it.

I think the fall beige that you may be referring to is kind taupe in color and I think that will look really great with that red and the brown. Have you considered using a slightly darker color for the pasmina than the dress, so that ther is not too much contrast, but enough to not blend on pictures? For example if the dress is a beige, than the pashmina can be a medium or dark taupe instead of a brown. Another way of explaining it is if the BM dresses are in a cooler color, get a cooler brown instead of a warmer brown so its more uniform. Don't mix the warm tones with the cool tones. Does that make any sense?

good call. i will look into the pashmina color further once we decide on the dress color. the pashmina idea came from when i was thinking i was going to do short BM dresses. do you think that they will look ok with the long ones too, or is that too much fabric?

Oh Jcrow your dress is soo pretty! It looks wonderful! I like the BM dress as well, but I dont know about color...

Jcrow, I actually think it will look nicer with the long dresses b/c a shawl with a dress is more evening wearish while a shorter 3/4 is more casual and long dresses is what I typically think of to go with shawls. If that make any sense?

jcrow I love that irish cream color. And I like the tafetta better than the original fabric - I love the jim helm dresses but that first type of fabric just felt really cheap and weird looking in real life, I dunnos. maybe just me.

I think the chocolate shawls will be great w/the lighter champagne-ish color.

My bm wore long strapless dresses (pink) and I gave them cream pashmina shawls, they LOVED those things - it was a tad cold outside for pics and stuff, and I think it looked lovely too, not too much fabric at all.... esp since yo usay the wedding is in nov, I''m not sure where you are and what the weather''s like, but w/a strapless dress a shawl was great for my girls...

hum, i hadn''t though of it that way. thanks. looks like i am still going to do pashminas for the girls! oh, and pearl earrings. a girl can always use a good pair of those.

i didn''t like the fabric in so many of the dresses we saw. but this one seemed different and nice. it may have been because the sample was in black. and we know most things look better in black.
then it became a concern that maybe this dress wouldn''t look all that great in a lighter cooler. but we will be changing the fabric and i think we''ll be fine. i am proably over thinking some of this anyway.

good to hear your girls loved them. i was trying to think of a good gift that i could give that they could actually use/wear.

i am in the south. novembers aren''t that cold. we will be in a tent that will be heated if necessary. they probably won''t be used in the posed pics, but rather the natural reception pics. it will give them some different options as far as a look goes.

Hey Jcrow,

I absolutely love those BM dresses and completely forgot to ask what name brand they are. I was thinking of having my girls try it on as well

good luck!! i know it fit my girls sooo well, and they have vastly different shapes. it''s very figure friendly.

jcrow...what a gorgeous BM dress! I love it! Love your color scheme too. Although I may be biased since it''s mine also

Except I''m in ivory. It think he champagne dress with the chocolate pashminas and the deep red flowers sounds lovely. That was my original plan also, but I couldn''t find any dresses in the right champagne color in my price range. I hope it works out better for you! I ended up with the girls in chocolate dresses with ivory trim and carrying cream peonies. I''ll be in ivory carrying the black magics. Hopefully it''ll look ok. You def need to look at the swatches in person. They look sooooo different ont he computer screen. The dress would look gorgeous in any color though, so I don''t think you can go wrong.

Good luck and keep us updated!

ging- is your wedding in the fall? i can''t remember. what BM dress did you end up going for? with the fabric change only available in satin-faced taffeta, we no longer have the option for chocolate dresses.
ah well. i think your color palatte sounds awesome as well. it may be my back up plan. champagne''s are so tricky. first, they don''t look good on everybody (it can wash people out). second, i don''t want them
be too yellowish or gold. third, i don''t want them to be to light so that it blends in with my white dress and forth, i don''t want them to be too springish, but rather more of a fall champagne. and figuring it out from those little swatches in the books just doens''t cut it!! i am hoping that the ones that the dress company will send to me will be much larger!
