Ooh! -

Here''s one more sapphire I was looking at... gorgeous, huh?

Go with the spinel or the second sapphire. Heart stones are not the right choice for most women, unless you KNOW that she loves heart jewelry.

Now spinel AND sapphire are certainly hard enough to go into a ring. With either of those two stones (I like both, depends on how they look IRL) I would do a delicate diamond halo cocktail ring instead of a pendant.

Good luck!

Here''s another one I''m considering exchanging for - it''s a pink sapphire
Yanno -- it''s funny ... I saw this yesterday & thought of your project. I tend to think of hearts as kind of sappy & young-looking (wonder if your fiance has similar snarky tendencies??) Yet this stone looked very sparkly & has a nice shape etc... I could see it making a lovely simple pendant & being more classic than MOST heart stuff.

Again - I say this WEARING a heart pendant that my DH got for me when we were first dating. Worn it almost every day since ... so I think hearts are silly UNLESS they come from some one you love - who is more romantic than you ... then they are lovely.

Did that even make sense? HA!

You wanna hear something funny? I''m not a big heart fan personally most of the time, but I do think hearts can look nice if done very tastefully on a pendant, i.e., with a small diamond halo type of deal. Anyway, before I bought the pink tourmaline pear, I had narrowed it down to 2 stones. I''m attaching a picture of the second one, which was a spinel heart, very beautiful in my opinion. Unfortunately, by the time I was getting ready to buy a couple days later, someone had already snatched it up!

That''s part of the reason I jumped on the pear so quickly.

I believe this heart was between 1 and 2 carats, something close to 8 x 8 mm, a little less.

OK, I think I''m really leaning toward doing a RHR with the 1.83 ct. pink sapphire cushion on pg. 2 of this thread (the last post on that page).

I think I want to do something like the attached photo (taken from this thread).

This way, I can give her something that is fun, classy, and both elegant but casual enough to wear most the time. Since I really can''t afford the diamond pendant and matching earrings I''d want to give her, I''ll save those for an anniversary or something.

For ease of reference, here''s the stone again - I''ve put a hold on it.

LOVE the idea, but I would go for something a little more classic and not as chunky (unless you know she likes chunky metal jewelry)

Maybe like this:

Any clue - just ballpark - what Leon would charge for something like that? I have a feeling its WAY out of my range for this project, but...

I''d guess 3K for that setting ... but you don''t have to go as over the top as that one is ... that is three-sided pave I think ... you could do ONEsided pave & it would be just as lovely as a RHR ... this was for an ENGAGEMENT ring which is why he went banannas!

It is a PRICESCOPE FAVORITE though -- got more attention than almost any other e-ring (before, perhaps SURFGIRL''s new SMASH HIT)

Oh, yes! The cushion in a ring would be great! I couldn''t go for the heart, but the cushion is gorgeous! I am thinking the Pokey setting was more like $5000.

Hmm, I am thinking of a setting that might work, hang on.

$5000 is about right. I was talking to Leon today about my danburite and he quoted that for the 'Ashley' setting, which is similar.

mmmm... pokey special. 5 grand well spent.

IMO, waaaaaay too much money for that setting. It better be an ounce of platinum and come with a $500 rebate.

I know I''m a "day late" on the pear debate. But I just came across this pendant and about fell on the floor! I immediately thought this could be the perfect solution to the giant pear problem. Just wanted to see if anyone else loved it.

Me me me! I love it, but that pear's problem was not being heavy but being heavy on the bottom. This pendant will flip and personally it would drive me nuts on my wedding day.

I know you''re the queen of design, so what would happen if you took the bale and top prongs and "flipped" the design so that the Y was on top and just a single prong held the top of the pear. That might give it more stability while still offering clean blingage.

love that pear upgradeable!

it reminds me of the jude frances jewelry that i love so much.

and pokeys ring......

you are going to come up with something fantastic ilb, i just know it!

What did you decide to do?? This is such a sweet project, I think we are all anxious to hear the results!

Apologies for my absence - I''ve been so caught up in work I haven''t even had the time to check out pricescope lately.

I returned the pink tourmaline pear. The size and pavilion depth made it difficult to work with and I didn''t love the color (more purple than pink). So I have the pink sapphire cushion I showed on hold, and I''m going to buy that (1.83 carats - a little more manageable to work with). Since decodelighted linked to the "pokey special," I''m strongly considering seeing leon mege about a right hand ring (he''s actually only a few blocks away from where I work - bonus! - does anyone know if he takes walk-ins or live appointments (as opposed to asking for a quote online)?). If not a RHR, then a pendant (again, Leon makes some beautiful ones of these, too).

When I get the new rock, I''ll come back and post pictures and hopefully get all your kind input again.

Sounds FANTASTIC!!! If price isn''t a major obstacle, Leon is surely the way to go, his work is gorgeous. He doesn''t take walk ins per se, you would need to call him first and make an appointment.

A beautiful pink cusion in a Leon - perfection!! What a lucky lady. Please keep us posted

ILikeBond-

Leon's only a few blocks away from where I work too (Tossed's salads make Cafe Duke look like Europa, amiright?) and I just called him that morning and asked if I could come in. He definitely doesn't do 'walk-in's' as such, but my experience has always been that he can fit you in that day or the next.

I'm biased, of course, but I think the pink sapphire would look great in the "Pokey Special." You can get people around here to photoshop it in if you ask nicely, apparently.
