Things we did to decrease cost:

We got married in front of the gazebo outside. I made the floral decorations (Michael''s flowers on sale, Michael''s white ribbon on sale, Michael''s tulle with 40% discount that comes in the paper every week), hot glue gun, and in total cost me about $50. We used plastic zip ties to put them up, super easy. For flowers people aren''t going to get close to, use silk. Nobody will ever know the difference and wont care. I used silk flowers in the arrangements for the bathrooms too. Glass vases at Michael''s, on sale, colored marbles at Michael''s, on sale, and the leftovers from what I didn''t use for the gazebo.

The biggest savings for me was Michael''s. That 40% off coupon...my coworkers saved them for me, and I went EVERY DAY after work. I don''t think I paid full price for anything. I may have only bought one thing a day, but it was on my way home anyway, so I didn''t spend more gas getting there. We made our save the dates, invitations, programs, favors...and I think we saved a lot of money. I got my favors for .75 cents. They are silver fortune cookies with a slit for a photo or card. My sister made the card that says, "thank you for coming to our wedding." Total cost for favor: about a buck each, and they looked great. It just takes creativity and not being overwhelmed. It doesn''t have to be PERFECT. Ours weren''t, but everybody loved them.

Also, I spent a lot of time price shopping on the internet, like for the centerpieces that used soba noodle trays, candles and vases, and found the cheapest I could order. Sometimes the internet wasn''t cheaper, like the vases and candles were cheaper at Michael''s, even not on sale, but the soba noodle trays, I paid about $9/each on the internet, versus the $15 in store here in Japantown.

Best of luck! It can be done elegantly and less expensive. It just takes time, and you have to figure out if you have the time. We had a year to plan, so I did a little bit every month and before I knew it, it was all done!

I am slowly falling in love with Michael''s.

Why?

I just came home with enough tulle and swarovski crystals to make a GORGEOUS veil.

Price including plastic combs and glue? $18!!!!!
