-We get what we pay for. I only buy uncerted stones if they are inexpensive (varies for each of us) and mind clean is not an issue.
-When placing an online order for an expensive item, consider the return policy. Note that oftentimes custom = none.
-Also consider levels of consumer protection offered by credit cards, PayPal, Etsy, etc.
-I had a great experience with I&R. My expectation was that it was a real gold setting with a real diamond and that both items looked as pictured. Their service was great, turnaround was like 10 days, and I got what I ordered. Lightweight setting + uncertified diamond = occasional wear ring for a cheap price. Buying directly from I&R, I had several layers of consumer protection via the payment method, plus a return policy.
