@ac117 I am so sorry that this happened to you! Hopefully Zelle can help you track down this person. Thanks for the heads up - terrible thing to have happened!!
As a general rule, Zelle is very hands off and unhelpful when it comes to reporting or assisting with fraud. I tried working with them a couple years ago (things may have changed since) when I foolishly sent money to an account bearing the name of my electric utility company and Zelle said it wasn't fraud since I pushed the send button myself. When I pointed out the blatant misrepresentation and fraudulent account name they told me anyone can put any name on any account and they won't check or stop them - it's the buyer's/sender's job to know who is on the other end of the transaction no matter how the account is listed. The New York Times did a piece on this a while back and I'm not the only one with a similar experience. So please be super careful using Zelle with anyone you don't personally know.
