buying online stone from B&M

Occasionally I have read about people using their B&M jewelers to access online stones. How does this work? In order to get upgrade credit I have to go thru my jeweler, but their selection is limited for what i want. Could I find a stone from an Online place but coordinate the purchase thru my place?

Some diamonds are "virtual" inventory held at the distributor. Many online vendors may list virtual diamonds for sale.

Theoretically, you could look at the diamond online, get the GIA cert number, then ask your local jeweler to call in the diamond using the cert number.

This would not work for a branded ultra premium cut like WF ACA because those diamonds are held in inventory by the internet merchant.

You should also note that prices for the same diamond are going to differ between merchants (whether B&M or online) because they have different markups from the wholesale price.
