Wow everyone - great job!

I''ve been using sparkpeople.com to track my intake - trying to keep cals under 1300. I have a gym membership, but with being hurt I can''t seem to make it over there as much as I want to. So damn tired all the time. Anyone have any hints on boosting energy?!?
I''m also only drinking water with one glass of iced tea at dinner!! That does wonders. 4 months til wedding today... still would like to lose 10 more lbs, lost 7 already!! :-)
I used Sparkpeople too, it helped me to get started, but I found myself obsessing too much, and starting to get a bit unhealthy about the whole dieting thing. I just make sure now to make smart choices, limit portions, and cut out the crap food.

It is better for me if I don''t have to nitpick every calorie.

Great job on the 7 lbs lost!

It was vitamin pills with and without iron sunny that made me sick and on a full stomach too. I tried both with the same result so I stick to soluble ones now.

Well there goes my simple theory!
1.gif
Glad you found ones that work for you!

Hey ladies!
35.gif
Well I fell off the wagon too. Bad headaches and work making me feel blah contributed a lot. But I''ve gotta get crackin'' here!

The 30 Day Shred talk has got me looking online at buying it. Has anyone else tried any of her other videos or books? I''m looking at 2 other videos (Trouble Zones and Banish Fat/Boost Met. - buy all at once, but use later to prevent a plateau). I''m also looking at 2 of the books - Making the Cut and Mastering your Metabolism. I think the Metabolism sounds awesome. But her stuff in Making the Cut about oxidation sounds interesting too. Just wondering if yall have had any experience or heard good/bad things about any of these.

How did everyone do this weekend? I must confess I did not do well at all, because I was a bridesmaid in my best friend from college''s wedding, so I was super busy and didn''t work out, and enjoyed the food and drink at the reception as well.

FI''s mother was our pet/housesitter for the weekend, and although I appreciate it, I''m also so mad at her for filling the fridge with unhealthy food! (Chinese and Thai leftovers, chicken alfredo). We got home super late last night and won''t have time to get groceries tonight either, so we will be depending on those for at least tonight. We''re hoping to at least go for a walk or bike ride tonight though. Hope everyone else fared better than me!

Uhhh yeah not me.
8.gif
FI took me out to dinner Saturday, and I think I did okay not getting the creamy pasta dish I usually get (a huuuuuge steak caught my eye, hehehe!!) but wine is a killer.
18.gif
I need to kick it up a notch, got bpics in 2 weeks!
6.gif
Then I can chill out.

ETA: Ooh ooh, but I did replace my morning coffee with water! As of Wednesday.

I''m trying not to eat late at night/after dinner (b/c I''m really bad about it). This way, I''m not cutting back too many calories nor do I feel like I''m dieting, but I think the extra "vanity weight" is slowly coming off.

The best solution I''ve found: scrapbooking! It keeps my hands busy and & I don''t think about food. Also, I can put some really cute stuff together for the wedding.

IE: I handmade a thank you card for my FI''s mom (who''s throwing us an engagement party). My next project is to put together a scrapbook of me & FI over the past 4 years, to put on display at the rehearsal dinner or something.

Also, I''m trying to spend more time in the gym doing weights vs. cardio. My gown is strapless & cuts low on my back, so I''d like some nice tone.

I hurt my heel
7.gif
So no gym for me...I''m just hoping I don''t have to limp done the aisle!

How''s everyone doing?

I got fed up yesterday after having to spend my second day out in the field doing data collection for work, which means eating out, and always unhealthy stuff - ended up at a pizza buffet b/c my coworkers recommended it. Anyway, I got fed up by the time I was home from all my stifled energy from riding around in a car all day an hour and a half from home.

So I stopped by Target on the way home and picked up 30DS. I''ve been wanting to start running outside again, but I''m not mentally up for that yet. So I did Level 1. Jillian kicked my butt.
9.gif
But I felt so much better afterwards. Haha especially when you get to do the punches - she says "Get out your frustrations!!" Hehe I sure did. But my legs were like jello after that - it was hard to even take a shower, let alone walk down the stairs, haha. And today, it already hurts. But I feel great. Can''t wait till my endurance catches up though, there were a few moments in there where my heart rate got too high. It''s pathetic how behind I''ve become.

I love me some 30DS. I think I need to pull mine out tonight - I haven''t had a date with Jillian in months!

Last two days have been not so good with fitness. We got back late Sunday from a wedding and I''ve been spending every free second dealing with my master''s thesis while FI has been dealing with our broken dryer. I submitted my thesis to my advisor last night late so for at least the next few days while she is reading it I should have a little free time. I''m planning on stocking up on healthy food and shredding tonight. I know I can feel the difference in my mood and energy level when I am not working out regularly and I hate it!

MakingtheGrade - sorry to hear about your injury! Hope you are feeling better.

Hello all! I''m jealous of all of you being able to do the 30DS. I''m in the Uk and DF got rid of our multiregion DVD player as we got a PS3 (not my idea). Now I can''t watch American DVDs and I want to try out Gillian''s videos.

Well, I fell off the WW wagon for a few weeks (ended up putting 2lbs back on). Have lost 1.5lb of it so far and am hoping to loose another 1lb this week. So far I''ve lost 20lbs since starting WW.

I haven''t been swimming for a year and that was only because I was on holiday. I went on Sunday and this morning and over the past two swims I''ve swam 2.3km! Go me! I try and do 250m sections and then rest for a minute, although I can only do breaststroke!

SL-I wonder if you could find it on Youtube or through Netflix or something...

Yay, 30DS!! I did my first night, again, last night. I didn''t get to start last week, like I was planning. I had a softball game last night as well and it rained for the whole game, so not as good of a workout as I was hoping, but we have another one tonight (Playoffs!!!
31.gif
)... so hopefully tonight will be better.

I have gone a full week without caffine!! It really hasn''t been hard at all, considering I used to have one in the morning, one at lunch, and another during dinner usually. I have a full 1 Liter of water while at work, and then at least a glass or two in the evening. I haven''t cut out alcohol, but I AM less than a month from our wedding, so a beer or some wine with dinner is almost necessary daily.
3.gif

Glad to see everyone is jumping back on the Health Train!! I am feeling great, and I hope everyone else is as well!!

I hired myself a personal trainer last night ladies!!!
I''ll be getting my butt kicked 3x a week for the next 15 weeks! The "goal" that was written on my sheet by the trainer: "At the end of 15wks AMS should be able to kick my a**" lol!!!

This trainer is nuts!! I''m pretty sure his goal is to make me cry

I know we have it on On_Demand. Do you have cable SL?

Most of the American streaming sites are blocked in the UK (like you can''t access BBC iPlayer in America). We have Apple TV and its not available on there either.

Has anyone here ever stuck to a diet that they started? If so, how? Because, if I am like many of you (fell off the wagon, started back up again, 30 crunch time, cheesecake in the fridge
18.gif
) we begin with the best intentions and those intentions leave as quick as they came! LOL

I''ve decided to not obsess on weight for my wedding (10 days away now) I am 116 at 5''3 and yea there are some flabby places but If I start dieting and working out and it does not work out to my liking or, will power for that matter, then i will just hate those flabby places of myself and my overall self confidence will take a dive!

There is no time for that! I decided to never re-visit a scale, I know when I need to cut back but I will never deprive myself of something I want to eat or do something I really don''t want to do. Do you just have to like working out to begin with? I ride horses 365 a year but I like that so it''s not working out to me... I dunno.

an interesting study I found in my hubs book the triathlete''s bible. The study was down by some hosp but I dont remember who... sorry

Active athletes were put on a diet. 1 group had to exercise more to burn 1,000 calories extra a day their diet stayed the same 1800 calories a day. The other group, had their calories restricted to 800 calories a day, but kept their activity level the same, (note which IS STILL VERY active IE biking running or swimming for 1 hour a day... for most ordinary people, would be what is considered, a normal workout.)

The results. After 1 week the group that worked out more lost ~ 1.7 pounds on avg. The group that ate less, lost ~ 4.7 pounds on avg. The study concluded that a calorie isn''t just a calorie when it comes to weight loss. However, the more lasting weight loss came from the increased workout group. The dieting group lost more #s on the scale, but the weight was lost in their muscles more than the blubber. The study also concluded that if you are cutting calories, it is more important than ever to keep the PROTIEN and healthy fat in the diet. However most dieters cut this first and eat more simple carbs and sugar, ie fruit.

Just thought I''d pass along some interesting info.
35.gif
So weird...I just read this article last weekend. lol.

Wow! Patchee! I would dream of being 116lbs! Thats like 8 stone 4lbs and a BMI that is in the low end of the healthty range (20.5). Seriously, do not even stress about your weight!

Tlh:
There are actually a few studies out there that show calorie restriction is the key to significant weight loss, but exercise is important to weight management/maintenance. (There wasn''t anything about "tone" that I can remember)

So for brides-to-be like us who are stressing about losing weight for a certain date (and may not care too much after maintaining that weight loss after the wedding), calorie counting is probably your most efficient bet.

My foot is still injured
7.gif
So I''ve cut my calories accordingly. If you just aim to cut out 100 calories a day until you reach about 1200, it''s really not bad, your body gets used to it. Just make sure you''re getting all you essential vitamins!

Sigh...I want to be able to get back to the gym!!

im doing southbeach and it''s working! i started over on sat. after cheating badly on friday, and so now i am on day 5 of the diet. i weighed myself for the first time on monday, and i am already down 2.5 lbs since then. so yay!!

Patchee, we talked about this quite a bit in the old BWW Weight Loss Thread. Personally, and it was shared by MANY other people, I have to give myself a goal dates. It''s not your "finish" goal, but more of a series of stepping stone goals. They have to be specific enough that you know EXACTLY what you have to stick to.
Say you want to lose 20 lbs by 12/31/09. Well, hardly anyone would stick to a diet that lasted that long, and was a generic as that sounds... so what you do is break it up into segments. Every 30 days, give yourself a new goal, and don''t make it weight loss related. Make it about HOW you plan to lose the weight.

ie.
Goal is Gereral Health:
My fakey goal is to cut caffine out of my diet.
My fakey goal is to find a new way to get excerise during my day this month, and to do that excerise daily. (ex. When I get home, I walk to get the mail after parking, instead of driving by the mailbox on my way thru the complex)

Goal is Weight Loss:
My fakey goal is to eat less than 200 calories for breakfast, 600 calories for lunch, and 1000 calories for dinner. With a small snack no more than 100 calories mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

If you are going for more tone/excerise or lower body fat %:
My fakey goal is to use the 5lb weights without strain by the 15th of the month.
My fakey goal is to do 2 workout classes a week, and run outside at least 1 day on the weekend.
etc...

BTW, I don''t think there is any reason that you would need to lose weight, so there''s no reason to get down on yourself for wanting to just get in better shape, or do more activities. Go with the goals to excerise more. You don''t have to nitpick your own body or be upset with yourself for just wanting to be more active. Ya know?
Have you ever thought of a kickboxing class or an aerobics class? There is lots of movement and it''s not like standing at a machine. I''m not good when I just go to the gym and do weights, the whole concept is actually completely lost on me... that or I just don''t have the drive.
I play in softball leagues, and FI and I take the dogs to the park to run around and get sweaty. You just have to be creative with your activites!!
3.gif

What is it exactly that you want to improve or do more of??

Anyone here interested in doing the Couch to 5K program? I learned of it through PS... though I don''t remember the specific source. Anyway, FI and I started it together, but are kind of slackers... I''d like to re-start and really be gung-ho about it. I figure that by the end of the summer, if I stick with it, I should be running an easy three miles... and then I can slowly add to that until the wedding.

I don''t like running, but I do like this program. The workouts are only 20 minutes (plus 10 min warm up/cool down) so they go by SOOO fast. And the intervals make it seem less strenuous.

So... any BridesInWaiting wanna give it a go?

I''ve looked at it. I had an insane idea yesterday that because I can swim and cycle, that if I leart to run then I could look at entering a mini triathlon (2.5km run, 9.5km cycle, 400m open water swim). Stupid I know as somebody who can''t even do 1 minute running ona treadmill. There is a girl in my WW class who has lost about 75lb and has gone from beign unable to run 30seconds to running half marathons, from using her own version of Couch to 5K.

Haha no one's been on here in more than a week!
3.gif

I've been doing the 30DS on and off - did it 2 days in a row when I started last week, took off 2 days, did it once this weekend, took off 2 days, went to the gym with FI Wednesday, and did 30DS again yesterday. My endurance is getting a little better. I also started using my 5lb weights yesterday, where I'd been using the 2lb weights with it at first. I'm a bit sore today, but it's good.

I feel good, I'm sleeping better, and I'm eating cleaner again and keeping my food journal. I got frustrated a few days ago when I found my journal from March - it had my measurements from that month, and when I compared to last week when I started 30DS, I realized I'd gained an inch in just about all areas - arms, thighs, calves, waist, hips. But I also did the recent measuring, whereas FI did the older one, and he tends to pull the tape tight. Even so though, it's my motivation - stop being lazy and firm up. I'm so sick (and done with) all this flip-flopping. Time to kick my own butt a little and stick to my routine and goals. I function much better when I do.

Also - has anyone figured out how to get the 30DS DVD to go to the menu when you turn it on? The first time I had to wait through the whole advertisement for the Biggest Loser DVDs. It lets me skip that now, but I still have to wait through Jillian's whole explanation of the workouts every single time - when I try to skip it, fast forward, or press menu buttons, it gives me the "denial" thing in the corner of the screen. Drives me nuts when DVDs do that. I just want to start my workout!!

I''m also considering nixing my gym membership. I got frustrated in there Wednesday. It''s a really nice gym, with tvs on all the cardio equipment, 24 hour access by our own security keys, nice weight equipment, everything you''d want. But the people have started to annoy me. Some girls like to come in there and spend an entire hour shouting on their cellphone to their friend about all their business, while casually phoning it in on the elliptical. Or wearing the most revealing outfit possible, showing their back tattoo for the whole world to see while they do their cardio.

The other day there were 3 guys taking over the cable machine, taking turns on it and sitting on the nearby arm weight machines (the ones I wanted to use) when resting. Sure, I could ask them to move, but then they''d be literally 2 ft from me doing their "thing."

FI got really frustrated at the weight section too - that''s where he likes to spend most of his time, but the meatheads in this gym tend to be really lazy (not that all are, because I''ve seen plenty that pick up after themselves). They leave their sweat and grease all over the benches, and leave all their weights on the bars, sitting on the floor, for the next person to clean up. I know it''s not posted as a "rule" anywhere, but everyone knows that''s gym "etiquette" - to at least clean up after yourself! Ugh.

I''ve just been considering running outside (used to do it all the time, even in our Southern US summers) and doing my weights and other workouts at home. I''d just have to get used to running outside in the winter. It''d save me $35 a month. Still thinking about it.

Anyone else had gym frustrations before?

I used to get p''d in spin class. They would have guys that would wear thick clothes or waterproofs so they''d sweat loads. It''d splash everywhere and ON people and was grim. I mentioned it to the instructors but they didn''t seem to do anything about it. I ended up cancelling that gym as it was near work and I changed jobs, plus I wasn''t using it enough.

I am having such a problem with consistency.

With the lack of responses to this thread, I''d say you''re not the only one
emembarrassed.gif

Seriously though, I''ve been doing pretty well. Ran twice and biked once last week, and have been eating super healthy for the most part. FI and I were debating doing south beach - I don''t really need to lose much weight - but I was wondering if it would help me kick some of the carb/sugar cravings I had going. I would have so much trouble giving up fruit though, especially with the great stuff at the farmer''s market right now. I''m trying to do a modified lower carb diet this week to see if I can kick the carb cravings that way, so far so good. I''ve got e-pics in 2 weeks and possibly b-pics in 3 - I need to get to toning up!

In the interest of full disclosure, I did have one night last week where I ate pie for dinner though, and had great food at a wedding this weekend.

Meresal - how are you doing with the wedding almost here?

AMS - are you enjoying your personal trainer? Can you kick his butt yet?

SapphireLover - I did two sprint tris last year and am training for another one in 5 weeks. Do it! They are so much fun and there is such a positive atmosphere during them - not at all super competitive.

luvthemstrawberries - I hate having to sit thru the menu on 30DS. I usually turn it on and let it run, and go get my sneakers and gym clothes on so I don''t have to sit thru it.

How''s everyone else doing?

Maybe we should make this thread a sticky...It might keep us all on track
9.gif

I''m doing pretty good on the health front. The only person getting their butt kicked so far is me
14.gif
. Trainer is harder than anything I''ve ever done!! But I''m seeing results already and at the end of the day that''s all that matters right?

Steph: As far as carbs go...I always thought that good carbs were ok if you were working out consistantly, which it sounds like you are. As long as your not eating a loaf of white bread in the morning you should be ok right? I thought fruit was good...

Luv: Sounds like your on track too!! That''s great. I can never figure out how to fast forward through the previews on any DVD. Maybe use the time to work on some extra stretches?
