Well last night I got to see prongs and it was just a first shot but I was seriously blown away. No sharp edges or chunky stumps of metal, it was all fluid and swoopy and so elegant - the man is amazing!

I won't post unless he says he's OK with it and as it's not done yet anyways...

Another update

We went ring shopping again at the weekend, and woohoo, just about all the final decisions are made!!! We went to about the last upmarket store in Dublin that we hadn't visited (Appleby) and to a store that sells vintage silver and diamond jewellery (Weldons'). The lady who served us in Weldons' was seriously the nicest sales assistant we have ever come across, so much so that BF is feeling really bad about not giving them business! She was absolutely lovely. She even offered to let us go outside by ourselves the (locked) shop door with two 1.6ct diamonds to compare them in natural light! We got to see an OEC in there and it was absolutely beautiful. And... we also found my favourite setting so far...

What we've decided on is a super simple cathedral solitaire that we'll then pair with a plain metal wedding band. Somehow that comination just looks most right on my hand. It seems I just can't rock all the blingalicious stuff! So here's an example, from Weldons' website - the style is very much like Leon Megé's 'classic solitaire', but with six prongs instead of four, and designed to allow a wedding band to sit flush. The one I tried on seemed a lot daintier than this, and the prongs were invisible from a distance. They were absolutely tiny.

ETA - oh and I definitively found out my ring size - BF insisted on all the shops measuring me, ha ha! I'm a K, which according to an online coverter thing I found is around a 5 1/8. Which is smaller than I thought actually, I thought I was an M. No complaints though, it means the diamond will look bigger, ha ha!
