Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Congrats Lynnie! I remember clearly when you got your BFP! He's a cutie - his little face is like, hello world! What's going on? =)

Cara, Pandora, and Diva: thanks for the tips! Sadly Pandora I'm not in the UK but I am considering zofran if the vomiting keeps up this much. I need to be able to function. My boss (and advisor--I'm a PhD student) actually guessed on Wednesday--I had told her via email that I have been "under the weather" and we had a meeting Wednesday. She came in, said I looked awful still, and asked if this was going to last 9 months. I froze as I debated whether to lie to her, and also hoped it WOULDN'T last nine months, and she started jumping up and down and clapping. She had bad MS too, so she's been so supportive--I'm very lucky.

Lynnie, congratulations; that is one gorgeous baby!

Thanks, all. Hopefully I'll be over here in a few more weeks.

Lynnie he is beautiful, congratulations!!!! :appl: :appl:

Lynnie!! What a lovely little surprise! He's absolutely adorable. Wow, I'm hoping my labor is as fast as yours - send some of those vibes my way! Sure wouldn't mind not knowing I'm in labor and missing the first 5 cm!! hehehe!! Congratulations to your little family, and enjoy snuggling with sweet little Vincent!!

Moxie, welcome to the preggo thread!! :appl: So sorry you're so sick - I second the vote for Zofran. I never puked during the first trimester, but I was really nauseous a lot of the time. Zofran was my lifesaver. From 6 weeks through 13 weeks, I took it, usually 4mg in the morning and 4mg in the evening. As Cara said, you have to watch for the constipation, because it can be really bad. I would recommend starting Colace or Miralax with the Zofran if you end up taking it.

Noel - sorry you're hurting. *hugs* I hope it gets better soon. I'm betting your little girl is the next to arrive - sooo exciting!! :appl:

Diva - yay for a good appointment and passing your 1hr!! :)

Lanie and Laila - hope you girls are hanging in there!! Soon, soon!!! :)

Congratulations, Lynnie and Icekid!!!! What gorgeous boys!!!!! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

Icekid - Congrats!! I can't wait to hear your birth story.

Lynnie - Wow, girl! That was a quick labor!! Vincent is adorable!! Our LO does that one eye open/one eye shut face too. We call it his pirate face :)

Oh noel you are close! Good luck! And if you are in pain I would ask if there is something you can take for it. I know pandora did a lot of research on pain meds while pregnant and if there is something you can safely take I would think this is the time for it. No need to start labor already in pain, and it can take awhile for the hospital to get their act together and get you pain meds. Best wishes!

Lol, I am the resident junkie! Opiates are the safest thing to take if paracetamol isn't enough. Don't touch aspirin or NSAIDs (ibuprofen) etc since you are in the 3rd trimester. Something like a codeine/paracetamol mix would be my choice - they come in various dosages of codeine.

It also won't make any difference to what meds you can have in labour. Daisy was opiate dependent at birth but she had been exposed to very high levels (morphine equivalent of 60mg a day) for the whole 9 months. Even so she had Apagars of 10 and 10 and only needed treatment for withdrawal for one day, so a small amount to keep you pain-free won't have any effect at all.

Once you've had the baby, NSAIDs like Diclofenac are really good - my hospital handed them out like Smarties to everyone who'd had episiotomy's or stitches and they were really good, non-drowsy making and safe to breastfeed on.

This is exciting seeing all these new babies being born! Congrats to the new moms.

Noel. good luck with your ob appt and coming childbirth. Remember to remind all the docs and techs not to give you any injections/IVs/blood pressure cuff on your operated side arm. That can set up swelling issues and even more pain. Don't be shy to remind the docs about this as it is easy for them to forget! Good luck to you!

Congratulations, Lynnie! Vincent, Welcome to the World!!

Good luck to all of you in the last stretch of your pregnancies!

OMG Lynnie congrats on little Vincent he is just preciously beautiful, cute and looks quite cheeky too :) what a lovely surprise and YAY for a quick delivery - very happy for you :). Your pic made my day :)

Noelwr I hope the snow melts for you - snow is so romantic to me (prolly cause it doesn't snow here :P) looks like you might get a white chrissie- seriously I would swap I could so snuggle under a heater instead of sweltering.

I hope you get some pain relief soon

Diva Congrats on the good appointment :)

26wks 1 day - sheesh this pregnancy is going fast :o in the 3rd trimester after next week :o WOW it seriously feels like yesterday I was POAS :P

Just a quick post, as newborns are quite time-consuming (who knew!) Plus, he is so cute... I never want to put him down! Hubby and I are constantly fighting over who gets to hold him while he is sleeping

Thanks all for the well-wishes. I love our little preggo thread community! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Hubby and I have decided that we should not share his name on PS, unfortunately, as it is fairly unusual (but not weird hehe.) It would just be too revealing, I think. So he'll probably either continue to be Jumper here (still loves to jump and kick) or his first initial, which is O.

Will write a longer birth story later, but the induction was really a great experience overall (noel!! don't stress  ) and I would do it again. After getting things started around 6:30 am, I was fully dilated by 11:30 am! Not bad for a first-timer.

Lynnie- O is honored to share a birthday with your gorgeous Vincent. Congratulations mama!!

And a couple parting photos...

Congrats again to all the new mummies :)

Lynnie and Icekid... Oh my! OH MY!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glory! They are just breathtaking!

Congratulations icekid!!!! O is gorgeous!!!!!!

Icekid - Jumper is positively adorable. I am so glad to hear all is well and look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Icekid and lynnie! Congrats a million times over! What sweet, sweet babies! I love the pics and love that you thought to post them for your pricescope family! Can't wait to see more...guess I'll have to go to the new mommy thread for that!

Laila--I'm dying to know if you are having a boy or a girl! Are you feeling uncomfortable? You are in single digits now!

Noel--how about you? I'm excited to see your baby's name and pics!!!

AFM--I am getting more and more uncomfortable. Sleeping is out the window. I feel like I rode on a horse for a week straight and my crotch hurts. I also have this burrowing feeling way way down. I can't describe it, but it's a definite low, sharp pain feeling. And my BH are getting more frequent. I induce in exactly 2 weeks from today but am starting to wonder if I'll make it. So close yet so far away!!! Any other ladies know what I'm talking about? I don't know if they are contractions or not, so I'm thinking they aren't. Either way they are irregular so nothing to worry over yet. My bag is packed and when it happens, it will happen! Still not done getting stuff ready for work. Ugh. May post a belated belly pic bc DH says I dropped but I need photo evidence!

Sorry for the rambling. Hope all of you are well and baking happy little elves!

:appl: :appl: :appl:    :appl: :appl: :appl:    :appl: :appl: :appl: Icekid! Jumper is gorgeous!!!!! Congrats!!!

Oh and dreamer, to answer your ? as to why I'm inducing, my doc will do it at 39wks. My main reason for doing it is that my vacation time starts on dec 20 (2days before my due date) and so I get 2 weeks that is free time. My mat leave starts Jan 3rd since um a teacher so that gets me 2 more weeks before I'm putting him in daycare. I'd be pissed if I went into labor when my leave started or was just days from starting. Also my doc said I could and should avoid being in the hospital over Xmas. It sounded like she wouldn't be around, w/o her directly saying so. Either way, induction isn't for everyone, but I'm at 2cm anyway, so I feel good about it!

Ok so apparently I'm not done posting!

Will you ladies nurse in front of family/friends? Either with a cover or without, or will you excuse yourself to another room? My inlaws are coming late January and I don't think I'll be comfortable nursing in front of them, even covered up, but I think they will feel awkward if I keep moving to another room every 2-3 hours. Any thoughts on what you guys will do?

I went away to nurse when my FIL was around, but he only visited for short periods of time. It was actually nice to have the quiet time in his room, just us two. But I nursed in front of my MIL and mother and husband, of course. If they were guests who we could kick out, we often did get rid of them when it was time to nurse. A good excuse to get rid of company ;)) Your in laws likely will not be comfortable with it either, so you can also just say "I'm nursing now, everyone out!" and let them go amuse themselves elsewhere. Better yet, get your husband to say it to them when you give him a look.

As to your cramps, labour feels a lot more like period cramps, very very low down near your pubic bone and perhaps a little around your sides and back. BH are more like up high and like you belly turns into a basketball.

Icekid and Lynnie - Congratulations on your gorgeous little boys!! They are both adorable. So pleased to hear you both had pretty good labour stories. Hope all is going well settling Jumper and Vincent in at home.

Noel - Best of luck for Tuesday! You must be so excited/nervous. Hope it all goes well and can't wait to hear all about your little girl!!

Lanie - You are so close too!! Hope the timing works out well for you.

We haven't had a BPF for a little while so here is a pic from yesterday at 31 weeks. I can't believe I still have nearly 9 more weeks of growing

31 weeks.jpg

Lanie I would prolly nurse in front of close female friends or family (ie sister, niece etc) hubby of course as for in-laws by MIL offered to show me how to BF which is nice and depending on how I go I may take her up on the offer

I don't think I could breastfeed in front of my father or my FIL I would feel weird

I guess I will play it by ear :)

Geri Your belly looks really cute :) - you look about the same size my close friend who gave birth on the weekend did around the same weeks - saw a pic of her the next day she looked amazing and back down to her same size chances are you will be the same :)

The weeks are going faster and faster - counting down the weeks till mat leave and Christmas closedown I am so over working and just want to nest already and finish reno's not that I am much help

Quick question did any ladies get mildly sharp stabbing pains in the belly (middle and lower) - is this BH I am only 26wks not sure what it is not overly concerned and figure it is what it is just curious I guess

I also think I have a cavity - awesome I LOVE THE DENTIST -sarcasm luckily I have an awesome dentist who understands my scardeyness - I also I think I pulled my arm muscle - my wrist keeps slipping out of place when I lean on it :( so I stopped leaning on it and I gave myself a bruise on the back of my ankle

I am so clumsy LOL

Hope all the ladies are well :)

quick drive by... just came back from gynae appt. they did not do another internal exam. they said the reason they did it in the first place was to check if I would need pills/gel for dilation before induction (artificially breaking water). so I am good to go for Wednesday. we also raised the bed and I need a step ladder to get out now. I feel like I'm sleeping on the top part of a bunk bed.

icekid - I agree with everyone else. Jumper's so cute. so sweet that you and DH fight over who gets to hold him.

Lanie - when I did plan on bfing, I was not going to do it in front of people, other than DH and mom maybe, and then still cover myself with a blanket. apparently you will know when you have a real contraction, so I think you don't have them yet. think I had ONE at 5am, felt like bad period cramp that lasted for 1 minute... but no repeats. luckily, I am sleeping soundly, in between trips to the toilet.

geri - you look great for 31 weeks! I think I looked like that at 20 weeks. I'm being induced Wed, not tomorrow. 2 more nights of sleep.

Deelight - no, I don't think stabbing pain is BH contractions. it is when your belly becomes really tight, starting from the top down, and isn't painful. I don't think I really noticed my BHs until maybe 4 weeks ago. I always thought it was just the baby sticking her back out.

geri -- such a cute belly! 9 weeks seems like a lot, but those last ones (up until now) feel like F.O.R.E.V.E.R.

dreamer -- thanks for the reply! I'll probably do the same as you re: bfeeing in front of FIL. They will be there for a week straight (they live far away) and DH will be at work most of the day, so it's going to be a little awkward. But I'm glad you mentioned the quiet time...that will be a good excuse! Just didn't want to look rude, you know? And I definitely know my BH's. Had them since beg of 3rd tri but I guess I was thinking "real" labor contractions would be the same, just lower. Like noel, I don't think these are contractions...just pains and dull aching, like a period, but they last for maybe 20 seconds. Ho hum. Is your pregnancy the same as the last one so far, as far as symptoms?

noel -- are you ready?!? You must be so excited!!!!! What are you doing these last days to relax yourself? You aren't working, right?

deelight -- noel summed up BH best. It's extreme tightness all over, but doesn't hurt. Just weird. (for me at least) My doc told me if I was getting them too much that early, that I needed more water, and that definitely did the trick!

I nurse anywhere and in front of anybody, be it on the bus, art galleries, restaurants, walking around a shop (in the sling)or at parties. But, I have a range of nursing tops that have polonecks (like ALL my tops...) and unpopper down the sides and have a bit underneath so that very little boob is actually on display. I also nixed the nursing bras after 2 days as they involve revealing far more, were uncomfortable and took too long to undo which a screaming wriggly baby. Instead I have T-Shirt bras (with underwires) which can just fold under (plus if you leak it doesn't go through to your clothes. I never felt embarrassed and neither did any of the people I have fed D in front of - grandparents, FIL's, my father etc, I'm pretty comfortable with nudity anyway, I'll go topless on the beach in front of my parents in the summer without even thinking about it.

All the women in my family have breast-fed and most have done till the baby is 3 years-old or so, so it's pretty standard. Half the time people don't even notice. A few months ago I was shopping with my grandmother and had Daisy in the Mei Tai. She was hungry so I just let the sling down a bit lower and undid the poppers and carried on walking round the shop with my grandmother. When we were leaving to go home she asked if I wanted to sit down to feed Daisy first and was a bit suprised when I said I'd just finished feeding her as she hadn't even noticed.

I can understand the first few weeks wanting to be on your own just to work out how to do the latch etc and I also watched a friend feed her baby in a restaurant we were in and it involved revealing pretty much her entire upper-half and attaching a milk-shell to the other side. I do think if your are feeding in public you do need to be capable of doing so without making a total dog's dinner of it and literally flashing the entire room.

Covers, blankets, shawls etc - don't work well IMHO, you're always checking if the baby is okay, they slip and as soon as the baby has control they pull them off. They are seriously annoying and don't give you any more privacy than a discreet feeding top and a cardigan/coat/jacket.

Breast-feeding in public may be more common in Europe and in the UK - plus here it is illegal to ask a woman not to breast-feed in any place that is open to the public. I've never had a negative comment and have had a HUGE number of positive ones. It's also a fail-safe method of shutting up a screaming baby in public which IMO is far more annoying to people!

Lynnie, I did breastfeed in front of my father and FIL at times, but also felt free to go off into the bedroom to do it. Escape time. If we were out and I had to feed, FIL usually made himself scarce. Just do what you are comfortable with, but also realize that bfing is going to be really awkward at first but there is something to be said for doing it anywhere. You are going to need to feed that child a *lot* and there is no need to be all shut in your house, so if you can figure out a way to do it in public or semipublic (like, say, the backseat of a car) that will make your life more enjoyable and less stressful. We started taking the LO out the first week, and luckily your boobs are portable!

With I agree with Pandora in that the right clothes are great at minimizing your exposure (though my slobbery one likes to take mouthfuls and dribble them out, so I almost always end up with milk spots somewhere), also a nursing cover can work great. I had a lot of trouble with them when Silas was really tiny cause bfing is just harder when they are teeny and lack muscle tone in their torso and need you to be doing a lot of positioning them appropriately. Plus Silas is always popping on and off the breast, and when he was smaller I needed a better view all the time to put him back on. But now that he is older they usually work great. You're covered, baby gets fed, he's more sitting on me than needing to be held fully, and generally I can see enough of him to know its going well and get a smile occasionally! I took him to work at ~ 6 wks old to see my coworkers, and he needed to be fed while we were all outside *at* lunch (with no where obvious for me to escape to, like an office.) Cover was worth a lot to me at that moment.

Thanks for your comments Pandora. I think you are right, that it's probably a cultural thing. It's pretty rare where I live to see a woman feeding in public, even covered up. You see it every once in awhile, but when I was visiting up in New England, I saw it way more. I think it's great if you don't care and feel comfortable with it. I'm total opposite...I'm extremely modest. My DH probably wouldn't be able to pick my mams or my girl parts out of a lineup. Ha! Both of us are in for some changes, starting with a vag delivery and bfeeding! I'll be okay with him though. I think the US is moving towards being more accomodating for new mommies. Older moms have told me that 20-30 years ago, bfeeding wasn't frowned upon at all, but it wasn't necessarily advocated heavily, and it was inconvenient. I know more and more laws are being passed to make it more accepted, which is fantastic.

And another thing...my grocery store was so nice to offer 2 parking places to pregnant and new mommies, provided you apply for a sticker. And I'd say 7 out of 10 times they are taken up by people with no parking sticker! :angryfire: It makes me so mad! I will be even more mad as a mom with a crying kid, a shopping cart, and a car seat to deal with as I try to unload my groceries. I guess people think it's okay to park there bc it isn't a law not to park there, just a convenience. I have become so much more sympathetic to new moms...if it looks like they are done unloading, I'll take back their cart for them. OK end of rant.

Here's my BFP at 38 weeks. I don't think I've dropped, but the critter is definitely sticking out more. :cheeky: 14 more days.....

So far, exactly the same. DH thinks my all day slight nausea is worse, but I think it is about the same. Who knows, memory is a strange creature.

I also BFed for a long time, 12 months, and my best advice is to try your best to just find ways to make it easy and convenient for you. It is so much more likely that you will be able to do it long term if you remove obstacles. For me personally it meant no pumping (annoying, never worked well), and really forcing myself to get over the modesty issue and BF anytime, anywhere. When BFing, especially exclusively, you are really tied to the baby, and it makes life harder if you have to be home bound, or find private places all the time. I found that a jacket with large flaps and angling towards a wall was anoung privacy in most places. I loved BFing and look forward to doing it again, despite these small hassels and adaptations needed.

Congrats Lynnie and Icekid :wavey: :appl:
