LOL... I think it has been the same amount of time as it is for everyone, but I know what you mean. This has been a relatively easy pregnancy (knock wood!!).Date: 12/8/2008 12:14:40 PM

Dreamer - you''re ''redefining'' the 12 week wait! lol. Love it. Cannot believe how smooth and relatively fast your pregnancy has been. Hooray for that!

Neat any recent estimates of how big your boys are? Are they over 5lbs each now?
That's great! I bet you are right and they are around 6lbs. That would be great, they probably wouldn't even need to stay overnight if they were that big! Well, maybe overnight for observation, but not much longer!Date: 12/8/2008 2:47:53 PM

We'll know tomorrow, but I would sure assume so! They measured at 4 lbs 10 oz and 5 lbs a month ago, so even with the margin of error (10 oz either way), I would imagine that they are at least 5 lbs now if not 6...
I'll let y'all know after my u/s tomorrow!

I am sure if they are over 6 lbs they can stay with you, that is a nice healthy size!Date: 12/8/2008 3:18:05 PM

Well we will all be there at least two days (if it's a VB) and 4 if it's a c-section. That's pretty standard in the US these days. But let's hope they can spend that time with me rather than in the NICU!
Like I said, if there was a need to stay then you would, or if you really wanted to for some reason, but most women seem to want to go home. There is good follow-up care here where health nurses or your midwife come by a few times in the first week you are home, so you aren''t alone or anything, and being at home is just more comfortable for many women I think. Funny how different places work differently.Date: 12/8/2008 3:44:32 PM

DD, I can''t believe you go home the same day over there! That''s crazy!

I''m surprised that they keep you so long after a VB. In Canada you go home the same day, assuming no major medical issues! I guess if you wanted to stay and you had extended health insurance or wanted to pay out of pocket, then you could stay, but most of my friends were pretty darn eager to go home! The midwives let you go as soon as you are ready, often within a couple of hours--then they check on you at home the next day/later that night and by phone too. I imagine that the time you deliver matters, and whether you have an epi or not... with an epi you''d need to stay at least as long as it took for the meds to wear off.
I wouldn''t want to go home the same day. I could barely move after my VB! Plus I loved having 24 hour on call service, nurses helping you learn to care for your baby, change the baby''s diapers, give you pain meds, wake you up to remind you it''s time to feed baby, lactation consultant to help you breastfeed, nurses and doctors checking up on you and the baby to make sure things are going well, and the yummy hospital food (no joke! I thought the hospital food was great. Make sure you enjoy those meals because when you come home you have no time to cook a meal!). I loved my time in the hospital. DH enjoyed it too...so much that he asked me to have another baby soon so we could stay at the hospital again!Date: 12/8/2008 6:00:18 PM

As nice as it would be to be home, I have to say there *is* something nice about having a 24 hour on call staff to help you learn to breastfeed, swaddle, etc. the first few days!
I was in the same boat as Snlee after my VB. I was so out of it and in a lot of pain. Thank God for my nurse and my husband or I don''t think I would have survived! My hospital food was great too! I kept requesting this chicken soup that they had because it was so good.Date: 12/8/2008 6:17:41 PM
