Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Lysser-Hang in there girl! Glad to see you around!

Socal-The main reason why most doctors wait until at least the 8th week before you come in is that it is very common to only see a sac during those early weeks. Cramping is normal. I felt it as well. My cramping was so uncomfortable that I couldn''t sleep well. I wouldn''t try to worry about it too much (although I know that''s impossible). Your next appointment you should be able to see a very little bean. As for peeing in a cup, they don''t really use that to confirm pregnancy. They do that to monitor sugar levels, make sure you are hydrated, etc.

Courtney-Please share the 4D photos with us if you don''t mind! I''d love to see them!! On the bump they consider your third trimester to be 26w3d. So I would think that by 27, you can say you are in the 3rd trimester.

I will scan and post them as soon as I get home Saturday afternoon!

hey ladies!

so cal - as everyone else said, try not to worry too much, it''s still so early. I know easier said than done, but try to relax
9.gif

fiery - not sure if i commented last week, but nice car!! love it!! aren''t new cars the best?? I love new car smell!

pandora and courtney - sorry about the back pain!

It seems everyone else is hanging in there! Can''t wait for all the spring babies coming soon!!!

I actually need your opinion on a name. We have been really hush hush w/ names w/ our family because early one we made the mistake of throwing out some options and for the most part the response was negative...so we just felt we''d keep it to ourselves. But our fav name we are REALLY on the fence because it''s kind of unisex. It used to be primarily BOY (in fact, all baby books still have it in the boy section), but some online research seems that it is also a girls name
39.gif
. Anyway, can you ladies tell me honestly (i can take it) if this name is too girly for a boy. We both love the name, but my DH is concerned he''ll get made fun of if it''s too girly.

Anyway
9.gif
Opinions please:

Layne Thomas

too girly??? not Thomas obviously, but Layne

19w5d

CDT I think a big part of whether it is too girly will be whether he is too girly
9.gif
If he is a tall jock type then it doesn''t matter what his name is, it will be masculine. If he is a little less tall and jock-like, then maybe it will be seen as more feminine... I personally like it and don''t think it is too feminine, and if people are going to make fun of him they will do it no matter what his name is! At least you aren''t thinking of Hillary! That is a boy''s name too, did you know??

Court- I can''t wait to see those pics! Yay exciting to actually "see" baby!...I am also having it done but that''s in like another 5 weeks (I wanna wait til at least 28 wks )

Cdt- I have never heard of that name for either a girl or boy but I think its beautiful! And I love unisex names..I love when girls are named like dylan or alex or bobbie..really cute :)

DD - i hear ya! If only I had a crystal ball
9.gif
I will lean towards him NOT being athletic, my DH is a horrible athlete..hehehe...I''m more athletic. But who knows??? Thanks for your opinion. And no, I did not realize Hiliary was a boy''s name. Although, I read in one of my baby name books the list of girls name that were orginially boys and I was quite surprised! Whitney! I would not think that to be a boys name at all.

NYC - thanks!! I do love it, and so did DH, until he started in his mind that it''s too feminine, but it''s not a no in his opinion yet either which is a good thing! But honestly we''ve been thru 2 baby name books front to back and only like 2 names! it''s bad. The other, I''m not liking as much anymore for some reason (Warren), eventhough it was a top contender in the beginning.

Pandora & NYC - Our genetic counselor recommended doing one or the other. What can the NT scan pick up that the CVS or Amnio cannot? I haven''t heard of anything that the NT scan will reveal that wouldn''t be revealed via CVS. I''d love any additional information you might have.

As for me, I was not interested in the NT scan for a number of reasons. The first being that it is only 85% accurate. The second being that it is a screening test as opposed to a diagnostic test. Unfortunately, I don''t think I could be okay with knowing that my chances of having a baby with a trisomy is 1 in 1000. I could still be that one. I much prefer the definitive answer. I''m also a bit leary of the false positives that often come with the NT scan.

SoCal - I''m sorry about your visit! I had an U/S at 5w5d and before the U/S they made it VERY clear that there is often nothing to see at that time. So I really wouldn''t worry too much. I know this is much easier said than done!

CC - I have no idea what else appeals to me. I have a real interest in academia and I think I may go back to school at some point. Possibly. I don''t know. blah. Got any suggestions?

Layne Thomas

too girly??? not Thomas obviously, but Layne

Thats my name! Spelled differently though: I''m Laine, and with an i, I think its more of a girls name. I knew a boy Layne and a boy Lane, and know of a girl Lane. I never thought the guys had a girl''s name. Its a pretty unisex name (with any spelling), and I sometimes wonder if people expect a guy when they just see my name. My middle name is my mom''s maiden, so there is no gender indicator there. I know its happened at least once (job application).

So, no, I don''t think its too girly!

Thanks everyone for being so reassuring. I guess my main problem with yesterday is that the doctor did nothing to reassure me that what they were seeing was normal. She definitely had no bedside manner. This was the first time I had even met her, since I seem to see a different doctor every time I go in. That also annoys me, because they never seem to know my whole story, and I feel like I have to retell it every time I go in.

The only reason I went in so early was because of the PCOS and the fact that I was having a lot of cramping. I got pregnant on Clomid, which is why I think they agreed to see me earlier, just to rule out any problems. In hindsight, I guess I should have waited. It seems that where I live, they suggest you come in between 6 to 8 weeks, so I figured I wasn''t going in that early.

Courtney- Definitely show us all your 4D. Those things fascinate me!

laine - i was in another thread today and saw you post and thought...hmmmm i wonder if that''s her real name! I love your name
9.gif
I just have to convince my DH that his son won''t be teased because of his name. But I can''t really know that obviously, but we''ll see what we end up choosing! thanks for your input!

cdt- Are you wanting that particular spelling (Layne) to honor a family member or friend? If not, I vote for Lane, no "y." I say this because a lot of parents are using the letter "y" to make a name more feminine these days, and while Layne doesn't strike me as definitely feminine, it's even less so without the "y." I've always loved the name Lane, and it sounds great with Thomas! I think it's a great choice.

Agreed! When I see "Layne" I think girl. When I see Lane I think boy.

Great to see you again EBree!

Hi Neat

How are the boys doing? How are you feeling?

I agree with Ebree! I had a professor in college named Lane, and he was definitely a male. I prefer it without the "y" in there.

Ebree - how have you been?

It's good to see you too, neat!
35.gif
How are those adorable baby boys doing? I check the Mommies thread periodically, but it's been awhile. Maybe I've missed new photos?

radiant- How am I? Well, I'm...hanging in there.

Thank you for asking! I'm so glad to see you back on this side. You know, a woman in another community I frequent has the same red tulips against a blue sky that you do (as an icon), and I always wondered if it was you. It isn't- she's around 20 weeks (I think), but I was so happy to see you were also expecting! I'm quite the lurker in these parts. Your big US must be coming up soon- do you have a feeling about the sex?

My first thought was that of Ebree''s- if you drop the "y", then it''s less likely to come off feminine. Unless you have a preference or it''s a family name or something of course! I love that name.

ebree, neat and cc -thanks! something to think about. Unfortunatley though neither of us are sold on Lane because, well it''s a road
9.gif
Sadly, as much as we love it, I''m not sure we''ll pull the trigger so to speak once baby comes. My DH is really nervous about the girly ascept of it.

Wah! I wish choosing a name were easier. We''re both so picky
9.gif

thanks for all the input!!!

cdt--
love the name.
i think Layne with the y is pretty masculine -- but maybe that''s because that''s the only Layne who is a male I knew.

I''m too swamped at work to write a full post - but wanted to weigh in on the "Layne / Lane" conversation.

I too feel that the ''Y'' is somewhat feminizing...and think LANE is more masculine. I like the name though!!
9.gif

I also like "Lake" for a boy. Beat that!

going to hang with my Bestie tonight and her almost 7 week old. Bestie is suffering PPD and on meds. Poor girl.

Nothing like Lentil take-out to brighten her spirits...or is that mine?! lol.

Talk later!

I agree that Lane is more masculine than Layne. Yes, a lane is a road, but I don''t think spelling it any different takes away that connotation. By the way, I like the name Lane, any way you spell it!

Well, I have another question for you ladies. Have any of you had any problems with hypothyroidism during pregnancy? I just had a physical 10 months ago, and had my blood testing for a whole array of things, including my thyroid. The results came back with everything being fine. Well, I got a call from my OBGYN''s office today, and she said that the blood tests I did yesterday showed me as having low thyroid, and that I need to see my GP right away! I have been looking online, and it looks like low thyroid causes in the mother during the first trimester can cause low IQ and poor development. So just one more thing for me to worry about!

Hey SoCal, sorry I addressed my post earlier to ChinaCat and not you, was totally having a preggo moment! I am hypothyroid, but I was before pregnancy because I''ve had my thyroid removed. Basically once you go to the dr. they will probably just put you on replacement hormones (synthroid, or levothyroxin is the generic) and monitor your thyroid levels throughout the pregnancy. But I would go to the GP as soon as possible because your research is right about the problems it can cause. However, please don''t worry too much! If your levels were good prepregnancy, they can''t be that low now, so you should definitely be okay. The dr''s are just really cautious with this (my levels were normal at the beginning, but on the low end of normal and my dr. immediately upped my dosage).

Cdt, I also think Lane is a bit more masculine than Layne, but I like it!

I hate trying to think of names. All the names both dh and I really LOVE are in the top 5 names for 2008 (both boys and girls!). I don''t want to do that to my baby, but we''re having trouble coming up with names we like even half as much.

Oh, and did anyone else''s m/s get worse at the end of week 12/beginning of 13? Mine was going away, but then I''ve thrown up more in the past 2 days than I did in the past 6 weeks! And it''s been really violent throwing up that leaves me exhausted and with stomach cramps from all the acid! No fun...

Ebree - so glad to hear that you are okay. I think the ladies in the TTC have been worried about you! Are you guys still TTC and using your fertility monitor?

I think I know who you are talking about in the other community. I am also on that community (if we are talking about the same one) and have seen another lady with the same avatar. She is ahead of me though. Our big U/S is in 3 weeks! We go on vacation on Friday for 8 nights to Bonaire (a Dutch island in the Carribbean), so by the time we return, we will only have 1.5 weeks until our ultrasound. I''m excited, but I still can''t help but be scared and nervous still. I am so scared they might find something wrong with the organs, etc. I guess the worrying never goes away. I''m thinking it''s a girl. I have had 2 baby dreams thus far and both have been a girl. I don''t care either way as long as the baby is healthy. My hubby is hoping it''s a boy, but would be happy with a girl. I will keep everyone posted.

Mela- So in Mela-world, lentils cure all, huh?
2.gif
Now I am craving lentil soup for dinner. Yum. Oooh, or there is this yummy Indian place I love that serves spicy lentils.

CDT- Well if you really like the "Layne" spelling, I don''t think that automatically makes it feminine. I just think if you were trying to be safe, taking out the y helps. I know, names are hard. I thought it would be reallly fun- and it is- but it''s a lot of pressure!!! DH and I haven''t really gotten into it yet.

So Cal- I just did my bloodwork at my last appointment and my doctor called and my thyroid is off as well. They didn''t say if it was hyper or hypo- but since I haven''t had any issues with it before (I was tested about a year ago) they said to just wait 6 weeks and test it again. She said it wasn''t anything to worry about at this point. I did a small amount of reading on it, and it seems like pregnancy can throw this out of whack and simple medication can help. Don''t stress yet!!!!!

HIYA Ebree!!!

Nice to "see" you!!

Are we allowed to have spicy/hot foods..like jalapenos ..had those in my subway tuna sand. Wasn''t sure if that''s good to have.

thanks ladies for weigh in on the name! It''s good to get some opinions! I really appreciate it. Good thing we still have about 20 more weeks to go to decide. This name thing is not as fun as I thought it was going to be.

nyc - i eat spicy a lot and so far so good
1.gif
My dr hasn''t mentioned that i shouldn''t eat spicy foods, although my DH is always worried when I do...so cute!

Cdt- thanks...that''s the reason I was askin ..dh lol...he is the same way ..says I can''t have the spicy stuff..but I can''t help it.

Well if pregnant women couldn''t eat spicy food then all the Thai, Mexican, and East Indian people in the world would sure be in trouble!! The only thing that will happen if you eat lots of spicy food when pregnant is that your child will have a preference for such foods later! It apparently flavours your amniotic fluid... and your milk.

Really quickly weighing in...

I''m glad that DH hasn''t heard that rumor about spicy food... if I followed that, it would basically leave me with fruit and hot chocolate out of my current diet.

CDT - A lot of people seem to be adding Ys to unisex names these days to try to feminize them, so I''d personally shy away from Layne. Lane seems much more boy-like and I don''t think my first thought would be "road" if I heard it on a boy. Names are so much harder when there''s an actual baby in question and when there''s a picky husband who has a say - it was so much more fun to think of them before I was pregnant!

Back later.
