Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Sabine congratulations on 12 weeks! That is definitely an exciting milestone. I am hoping that the rest of your pregnancy is as smooth and uneventful as possible!

Blen I''m glad that you''ll be able to move around a bit more. I can imagine bed rest must be so difficult!

mela your baby belly is too cute! You look great.

Didn''t one of you gals have a stomach bug recently? I have been throwing up and having diarrhea all day... fever, chills, the works! I am still throwing up every hour or two tonight, but I "feel" better than I did earlier today.

Should I keep drinking fluids? I know the biggest risk for preggos with a stomach bug is getting dehydrated... so I''m drinking water cut with a bit of gatorade. I keep throwing it up, but hoping that I''m absorbing at least some of it? I''m wondering if taking in the fluids is prolonging my stomach irritation, but I''m thirsty and afraid of getting dehydrated. Any words of advice? Thanks!

Linds - I''m no Doctor...but I would guess that pumping in lots of fluids is your best bet (even if you''re losing most of it again). Hang in there!!! Poor Momma

Ditto. Keep drinking! Avoid sugars because THAT will irritate your stomach. Just water. The key to knowing if you are getting dehydrated is whether you are still urinating. If you are still peeing every 4 hours or so, then you are hydrated. Also, you will absorb the water you drink if you can keep it down for at least 15 minutes or so. If you are not peeing and you are vomiting water right away, then I would seriously think about going to the emerg. Dehydration is baaaad for pregos!

I had vomiting but I only puked about 5 times in 24 hours and could keep water down. Also had no diarrhea.

ETA: I am a doctor, but not THAT kind so take it with a grain of salt...

Lindsey, sorry to hear you''re not feeling well. Also not a doctor, but you and your baby both need fluids so you should probably keep pushing them. If you find something else that''s easier to keep down, you could also try that. If you''re not keeping anything down, maybe call your doctor and see at what point you should come in. Hope you start feeling better soon!

Sorry you aren''t feeling well Lindsey. Please call your Doc ... HUGS!!!

Thank you all for your advice. I stopped throwing up around 4:30 this morning so that is good. I was still urinating (just a lot less frequently than normal) and I lost 6 pounds in one day! No doubt all of it fluid. So my husband is at the grocery store right now getting me some fruit and toast and I''m going to work on drinking plenty of fluids. The baby has been kicking me ALLLL morning, and I wonder if she''s complaining I haven''t held any food down since breakfast yesterday. Haha I''m sure she is fine
2.gif
Thank goodness it only lasted a day. My entire body is sore because man, when you have a belly on you, throwing up is physically a lot more work it seems!

L2L,

What a precious little boy!! Gorgeous. I just love those little lips!! Enjoy motherhood, mommy!!!

****
Mela,

Beautiful baby bump there! Congratulations!!!

****
Sabine,

I''ve been wondering where Robbie is too.

Probably just busy, she commented on one of my photos of the boys on facebook the other day, so I think everything is fine.

I was the same, lost 5lbs in one day too! Took about 4 weeks to climb back up to where I was before I got sick! Don''t worry, you are fine and baby kicking means babu is fine too!

DD - any word from the UNI''s? Dying to know
31.gif
You and me both! Word from all the schools is that a decision will not be reached until the first week of February... I will update when I know anything!

Well in my life now the Evil Crotch Pain (also called SPD) is ruling my life. I cannot walk for more than about 5-10 minutes without paying for it for the next 24 hours! Apparently many preggo get it in the last weeks, but man it hurt like a you-know-what! I find that if I don''t strain it I am okay, and I discovered that the elliptical machine doesn''t hurt or cause any damage that lasts, so that will have to become my routine since I can''t frickin'' walk!!

So far I have loved being pregnant, but I will admit that mother nature knows what she is doing... she conspires to make the last month so uncomfortable that you are super motivated to do anythng necessary to birth that baby! LOL!! I could live with all the other discomforts of pregnancy--baby digging into my ribs, no lung capacity, stuffy nose, stretch marks, even the puffy hands that make rings not fit
39.gif
-- but pain when I walk or go up stairs or get out of bed or roll over in bed, now THAT is the last straw

Sapphire - welcome and congrats!

Fiery - nice car! I''m glad your DH found one he loves so much!

L2L - CONGRATULATIONS! Parker is adorable!

Mela - you look great! What a cute bump you have!

Blen - I''m so sorry about your scare last week! I hope you''re feeling better. I''m sending you good vibrations that the baby stays put and you''ve no more bleeding!

Lindsey - your bug sounds terrible. I hope you''re on the mend!

Pandora - I hope the grapefruit sensation has abated!

Sabine - congrats on getting to the 2nd tri!!

radiant - we''re so glad to have you here with us! welcome back!!

All''s well with me. I just finished reading Ina May''s book and found it very helpful. I''m feeling VERY positive about having a natural birth and am not feeling scared at all. I had a dr''s apt day before yesterday and the RN said I''m measuring ahead in terms of my weight gain and fundal height so she wants me to go in for an ultrasound to measure fetal growth. She asked if large babies run in my family (they don''t to my knowledge, though I was born 10 weeks premature with my twin so I never had a chance to get very big so who knows). She also said the baby is breech right now and they might have to schedule a C-section if she stays that way. I know I could have been scared by any number of the things she said but none of it worries me. The baby has plenty of time to turn and she''s so active that I''m confidant that she WILL turn. And I know I was made for this so even if she is a large baby, my body is capable of delivering her naturally. I keep visualizing the labor and it makes me feel very powerful and strong. And also privileged to be in a position to experience such an amazing event. What a blessing it is to be able to help create life and how fortunate we are to be able to facilitate birth! (I know that''s cheesy - sorry!)

Anyway, I''m really looking forward to the ultrasound even though I don''t think it''s necessary and I''m well aware that the size estimates that they come up with are not always accurate. I haven''t "seen" the baby since the anatomy scan in Oct and so much has changed since then. I feel her all the time now so in some ways I feel like I know her much better now. It''s kind of like when you develop a relationship with someone over the phone or on line but you''ve never seen what they look like. I''m hoping the imaging is good. Though I understand at this stage they are kinda too big to see very well. I''ll let you all know how it goes.

question: do any of you shop at Babystyle? I got some great maternity work clothes on super clearance from their website and wanted to go back to see if they had anything else but the site has been down for a week now and I''ve read rumors about the company filling for bankruptcy. Anyone know what''s up and what they''ll do with the inventory if they do go out of business?

Mrs
32 weeks 1 day

mrs you''re almost there!!! that''s so wonderful that you are SO positive about everything. i know i couldn''t be. i would be worrying about everything, so good for you!! in terms of a natural birth, it can be done, and so great that you are going that route and to be so prepared for it.
re:babystyle, i know that they aren''t doing that great, as the one that is closest to me, like 10 minutes away, just closed down. i was so upset about it. i LOVE shopping there for DS. your best bet would be to find one near you and go there to get stuff, or have a family member or friend who lives near you help go get stuff for you.

Thanks Puffy!! We do indeed have a store near us but when I called they said they are not closing and they don''t have any special sale going on besides their normal winter sale stuff... so who knows. I''m sorry the one near you closed! I''ll let you know if I hear anything else.

thanks again for the encouragement!

NF - good to know!

DD - 35 weeks?! How did that happen? Sorry to hear about the evil crotch pain.

Mrs - I''m glad to hear that you''re feeling so good about birth! Baby still has time to turn, but just in case - are you aware of natural techniques to try to get the baby to turn? Inversion, ice on the top of your belly, putting headphones on your pubic area, acupuncture, etc? It couldn''t hurt to start trying to naturally coax baby headdown sooner rather than later.

We just had birthing class, and it was a lot of fun and very informative. She talked a lot with the partners about how to be supportive partners during labor, which I think helped hubby to know how to help me. We practiced "contractions" in a lot of different positions, with our partners helping us in different ways. We also talked a lot about postpartum. Based on stuff discussed in class, I think that hubby and I have basically decided now that we''re going to set up the cosleeper in our downstairs guest room and stock the dresser with diapers, newborn clothes, and comfy PP clothes for me, and just live on the first floor for the first 4 weeks or so to make life and recovery generally easier for me. Plus, if we''re only using the second floor for the closet for him and if we set up a baby gate so that the dogs don''t just go up there, it should be able to go 4-5 weeks without being cleaned. Less work for us!

LOL!! I can imagine the look on her hubby''s face when he walks in and sees that!

I''m glad you liked the Ina May book. I think I need to read it again now that I am getting so close.

Just a quick stop-in to confirm that everything is still going well with Robbie. I believe she''s been spending a lot of time on the bump

, but she''s also been traveling for work and doing a lot of nesting around the house. I''ll let her know you have all been asking about her though!

Blen, thanks for suggesting those techniques. I''ll try them and let you know how it goes. I''m confused now about how she is positioned since it''s getting harder to tell. I felt the hiccups down near my pubic bone last night so does that mean she flipped? She often sticks (what I think is) her but up and I feel it on my left side kinda high up and many times I''ll feel her head up on my right side as well which would suggest to me that she''s lying sideways... Last week I could feel her dancing on my bladder (ouch!) but now I just don''t know... palpitaing my belly just now, I feel like she might be head up again... how can I really tell?? so confusing!

I''m glad your birthing class went well! It sounds like you''ve a great plan for when the baby comes in terms of setting up the house.

Mrs I think you should ignore you doctors warning for now (since they are just "maybes" at this point) and just go along as you are, maybe doing some of the things Blen suggested. Babies don''t stick to one position until as late as 34-36 weeks, so you have a long way to go before this becomes an issue for you.

Mrs - Hiccups low down probably mean headdown. 97% of babies turn headdown by term, so you''re probably fine just letting your body and your baby do their own things for now and then starting to encourage baby to turn around 34 weeks if baby''s breech at that point.

Sabine - good to know that everything''s going well with her.

Hi to all of you lucky moms-to-be! I''m usually over on the TTC thread, but was hoping for some input from you guys. My period was due today, but hasn''t shown up yet. At times I feel a bit unusual (can''t think of a better way to describe) down there, kinda of like very mild period cramps. Did any of you experience this around the time you would have started your period had you not gotten pregnant that cycle? I bought a test today, but don''t want to waste it if AF is just going to show tomorrow. At the same time, I am so anxious!
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I hope you guys don''t mind me butting in over here!

Hey Natalina, I had cramping early on and I''m pretty sure that some of the other girls here did too. At the same time, it could be AF just around the corner. The only ways to find out for sure are to take that test or to give it more time and see what happens - good luck!

Oh yeah! I got on to post that I made a sling this evening.
9.gif
It''s made out of seersucker, so that baby will look nice and preppy this summer. And fabric only cost $5.82, so it was really cheap! I used these instructions, if anyone else is interested. It took me about an hour, but I''d also never made a French seam before and had to rip part of it out once.

My baby-wearing model showing it off (although this one is much more intended for an infant than a 25 lb-er):

SeersuckerSling.jpg

Blen- omg I was LOLing so much with that pic....I can''t believe u r picking up 25lb while preggo mama! Bad girl!...but that dog is having some fun time playing with all ur toys. Ur very creative and looove the sling. Im still laughin..I wanna keep looking at it lol.

Blen I did the same thing with my sling, but wit ha 10lb dog! She hated it though, yours is obviously much more complient!

Went to the gym again today and did the elliptical and my pelvis feels fine! Yippee!
36.gif
I think the key is not to walk for long distances, that really seems to irritate it and it lasts a couple of days. Anyways, I''m very glad to know I can do *something* because it is very important to me to stay active these last weeks. My m/w told me that women who are active every day are much less likely to go over due, and I think being active will help with the labour.

My close friend just had her first child yesterday! She had a home birth with a tub set up so she laboured a lot in the pool. Total labour was 50 hours (obviously not all hard labour) and 3 hours of pushing at the end. But she is doing really well. I can''t wait to talk to her and get the rest of the details!

DD- good news about elliptical helping! I''ve also heard staying active really helps with labor. I can just imagine how great it is to give birth in a tub..water always makes me feel good and I bet a water birth is much more relaxing... (Well more so than just laying in hospital bed).

Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome! So far Im feelin pretty good. Hot flashes and nausea...but only physically got sick once SO FAR lol. Other then that just REALLY tired. I had my 1st dr appt friday. They guestimated me to be around 7 weeks. I have my 1st Prenatal appt. on Thurs Feb 5th. Thats when theyll do the 1st U/S and Ill know more about the date. It looks like I get to share my Bday month with the lil one lol. Hope everyone is feeling well!
