AMAZING story Blen! Congrats!

Wow Blen! What an amazing mama you are! Congrats and thanks for the wonderful story. We''re so happy for you!

Congrats BLEN and Baby George!! That is an amazing story, still am processing how strong and brave you were. Not sure I have it in me! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your new baby boy!!!!

comedic moment of the day. My girlfriends were all emailing today...and they decided to make a 'game' of "let's guess what Mela's baby will look like".

My DH has a rather large, bulbous, bald head.

This was the composite I got: hahahaha.

HimersComposite.jpg

Mela, that''s hilarious. My BIL and SIL has a son with a very large head. When he was born the doctors were worried it was something bad, then measured the parents'' heads and said, "Ah, it''s okay then." He was wearing adult sized caps at 6 years old!

Opinions:

What do you guys think of a hundred acre wood themed nursery? Pale walls, possibly greenish, with birch tree decals like this on one wall, with a very subtle classic Winnie the pooh theme, with framed pictures from the books? Is that too feminine? Bedding is a little harder, this is way too cartoony for me. this

Mela-I''m guessing the friend that gave you the 3rd photo is a really, really sweet friend LOL!

Amber-I love classic pooh. The great thing about it is that its very gender neutral.

Oh blen!!

LOVE IT! Especially the white birch branches on a pale wall. GORGEOUS. Calming, neutral. FAB!
I too, tend to shy away from cartoonish prints. I prefer slightly more ''mature'' prints for children''s rooms. You can still make it childlike and fun, without having cartoons

. I like Winnie the Pooh - the classic hand-drawn imagery - over the cartoon version. That would be both childlike, gender neutral and could stand the test of time.

GREAT idea Amber!

Wow Blen...you are a rockstar!!! Seriously what an inspiration you are to woman!! Congrats and George is so ADORABLE!!

Blen - Congratulations on your beautiful son! You must be superwoman to deliver a breech baby at home!

Blen, brave does not even begin to describe you. George is beautiful. Congrats again!

Blen What a wondeful story! Congrats on the birth you wanted, though frank breech was probably not on your wishlist

Come on over to the mom thread when you get a chance, our boys can "play" together!

Blen, you''re amazing! Congratulations on the birth of your adorable little son

Question. I can only IMAGINE how painful that was. Whoa. Do you think the outcome would have been different had you have been in an hospital setting? i.e. Do you think you would have accepted pain meds, or even opted for a Cesarean birth? I''m just curious.

In a hospital setting or with an OB, my guess is that Blenheim would have had a c-section. It would either have been scheduled b/c an OB would have done an u/s to confirm positon when it was in question, or it would have been required when the positon became clear. In most hospitals it is standard procedure to do sections for breech.

Thanks so much everyone!! That was seriously the hardest thing I've ever done. We've spent the day napping on and off, and George just had his first bath.

Generally speaking, with the policies of the hospitals in the area and with a doula to help me out, I think that I could have managed a med free hospital birth under different circumstances. I wouldn't have been able to if I had to labor in a bed because that was the hardest place for me to cope with the pain of contractions, but the local hospitals are pretty good about letting you move around, get into water, etc. For this particular birth, if I had planned a hospital birth or transfered before the pushing stage, I'm pretty sure that they would have wanted me on pitocin because my water was broken and the contractions weren't coming at any consistent intervals. From everything I've read and heard, it's practically impossible to have a pain med free birth on pit so I'm pretty sure that I would have taken pain meds in that case.

In any case, though, the hospitals here don't do vaginal breech births and you can't do an external version with a broken bag of water , and so once we confirmed his positioning it would have been an automatic cesarean. If I had decided to transfer when my midwife told me he was breech and asked how I wanted to proceed, they would have pushed him back up and then done a cesarean. He was already starting to come out and had a great heartbeat and we had everything else working for us, and so given the risks of a vaginal breech with all the given circumstances and the risks of a cesarean, I felt more comfortable staying at home.

Edit - DD beat me to it.

Blen- what a story!!

Obviously, you are a rockstar mama. Congrats on little George, he is so precious.

And for the record, I''ve been right about every "surprise" birth that I have guessed thus far

Didn't mean to steal your thunder Blen, just thought there is no way you would post an answer any time soon! LOL!!

And I bet you could have done it with pit... for me what did me in on the pit was not progress. Yup, the pain was horrendous, but if she had told me I was 6-7cm at the time when we stopped to assess the situation I could have kept going. Being told I was 1cm, the same as 5 hours earlier, that was what did me in.

Your birth story makes me realize I haven't written mine, and I want it for my own keepsakes! Off to do that now!

PS: Enjoy these first weeks, they go so fast! And also know that when it is hard IT GETS BETTER!

Awesome story Blen! A vaginal breech delivery? How cool is that? Well I''m sure it wasn''t very cool at the time (yowza!
23.gif
) but it is so great that you got the home birth that you wanted!

And that George is such a cutie! I love babies, but I never think newborns are all that cute. He is just adorable!!!!! Congrats!

My cousin is a doula and she says it's very rare for a natural/home birth when the baby is breech. Makes it even more amazing, Blen!!

Well, I'm having some new "crotch pain" that I haven't felt before. If she's head down, why does it feel like she's sweeping back and forth down there? I'm guessing that she's officially dropping, but it's hard to tell. I can walk pretty easily sometimes, but other times not so much.

I feel like I'm behind on some things. I've printed out my "what to pack" list for the hospital and I've asked DH to install the carseat, but he wants to wait until this weekend. That's fine because his sister who has 3 kids (2 babies) is coming into town and can help with this. I need to order some nursing bras and tanks, but I'm not sure what size to get. If I'm fitting into a 36B right now, should I get 36B nursing bras? I know they're going to grow once the milk comes in. I should probably go ahead and order Medium tanks as well. Anyone?

Amber I love those birch tree decals! They would be lovely on light sage green walls. Very calming and great for a nursery. If it''s a boy, in later years you could turn it into a Robin Hood or Forrest theme if he wanted a change. But as a nursery a little bit of classic winnie the pooh would be cute. I agree, I''m not into cartooney things. I don''t even like my stuff to be too matchey matchey. But some cutesy is fun.

Wow Blen, you ROCK!!!!!!!!!!! That is some birth story.

Also, what country are you in? I haven''t heard of a ped coming to one''s home in the US.

Neatfreak, thanks so much for your help!! I''ve contacted the multiples organization in my area, so hopefully I can get a recommendation for an ob. Have you posted any pics of your boys recently? I''d love to see how much they''ve grown!

Blen--U R AMAZING! What a fantastic story. I agree, having a breech home-birth is quite an accomplishment. It''s great that one of the middies was an expert in that area. Fabulous! Makes me want a home birth so badly!

TMI Alert ?....

So I''ve been having small itsy pieces of mucus ..mostly clear ..today there was like a long strip...so does this mean that labor is soon coming or is this not a sign???

Sorry again for the tmi..I know its gross! But im looking for signs here.

Blen,

Congrats on George''s birth. He is just perfect! I love the name (I am partial to it because it''s my grandpa and dad''s names). Your birth story is amazing, I would never have been able to do it. I hope you are enjoying life with your new son.

Could mean it''s soon, but could mean a few more weeks! They regenerate sometimes. But it might just be changing CM and not your plug too. Are you past 34 weeks?

Congrats, Blen! You''re an inspiration, and George is just beautiful.

I''m an occasional lurker here, and Blen''s home birth story hit me with some uncanny timing. I watched the documentary Ricki Lake made on birth in America - "The Business of Being Born" - just days ago, and the movie really struck a chord with me. I''ve never been a talk-show and/or Ricki Lake fan - I watched the film on the recommendation of a friend. Anyway, I''m wondering if anyone here has seen it and what your reaction was. I''m especially curious to hear thoughts from those of you outside the States. For those who haven''t seen it, you can watch the trailer at http://www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com/. It gives a better synopsis of their main points than I could quickly write here. If you haven''t seen it but would like to, I know Netflix has it both for DVD delivery and online streaming (and they always offer a free trial

).

Thanks neat- I will be 34 wks in 3 days...so I guess its not an indicator...I don''t think its the plug but it never came out like that before..urgh.

NYC, I believe the mucus plug is supposed to be yellowish if I''m not mistaken. A little blood is possible too.

Court- there''s def no blood and its not pinkish...it is yellowish jus like mucus..but it was like a string. I duno what to make of it if anything.
