I'm sad...

I just called GOG and stopped my order for the D IF and D VS1

I want them sooooooo bad. But I was just reading over a post over in Hangout regarding the paying of lots of moola for branded smaller diamonds... and actually just posted there too regarding my purchase/upgrade. And I was sitting there thinking, c'mon Deb... do you really have to have evrything right away? I mean, I'm waiting on my Leon mother's ring, and I'm not Roosevelt for heavens sake.

Truth is I could do it with the trade up and a stretch, but it's so much smarter for me to not spend the extra right now. I'm setting up a studio in the States and could use the cash.

I hope I don't kick myself in the end for passing these up.

But I think I just have to be an adult and have some self control

Sigh...

I'm sorry you are sad but its good that you have thought things through and decided to wait. I don't know if I could be so sensible

Thanks Mais : )

Deb I hate that you have to let these go. I know it's hard to find the balance between what's rational and realizing you only live once and tomorrow may never come. I've bought things for myself recently that I've wanted for years but could never justify until that last thought was pounded very suddenly and painfully into my head. So now I have pretties that I've spent way too much money on, money that would have been better off doing other things, but I'm enjoying them now, for however long I have. So will I look back in a year, 10 years, 20 years and regret spending all the money? Maybe. I know I'll know MissyDebby was the smarter one, that she used her money better than I did. And I hope she never regrets her choice.

I'm sure that your D-IF is still out there and it'll come along when you're ready to give it it's home. And you know I'll be drooling. :wavey:

Oh you are soooo sweet Andelain.

Well, I'll let you in on the good news part of this bad news. The silver lining is that I'm using the money to set up a studio in the States. I've had some requests for larger paintings and have realized it's just too difficult to ship them from Holland. Messes up the price point... you don't want to be spending a third of the price on shipping :nono:

So anyway, I have to set the whole thing up. Got a studio, but have to stock it. And I promised myself after the Leon that I wouldn't spend what i didn't already earn. Which I didn't follow when I went for the new AVRs. So looking over the numbers again, I just realized I wasn't gonna be happy stretching so far. And hell, whose to say my good fortune in selling is gonna continue? You never know. Especially with stuff like art. So I'm sad, but also feel better.

Now you, my dear Andelain, are in a war zone. And you must have them. Your logic is totally right on. I think you're right to get em and enjoy them.

Much love to you always, LoneW

 , :appl: Good choice. Priorities can be elusive this time of year. Good for you - and I can't wait to see what you do next....perhaps pics of your studio?

Both of you have made the right choices for your current situations -- but Debbie, I checked my crystal ball, and I am sure that you will have other chances to get a D IF later on, if that's what you want.

good decision. I am a "trigger puller" and then a thinker.... For instance I bought a RHR setting for a stone a few weeks ago... and now I am thinking it should have been a necklace and not a RHR (reserve the RHR for an anniversary gift). Your lucky that you can cancel the order. My purchase is done, paid for, past the dealine.... so it's either set the stone and love it...or?

Good for you, Miss Debby. The fact that you feel better about your decision says it all. Jewelry is a luxury item, and if the money is better spent growing your business, that is the right thing to do.

As for Andelain, spending her hard-earned cash on diamonds actually makes a lot of sense. There is a limit as to what she can purchase while in a war zone (a new dining room suite, for example, probably wouldn't do her much good), and diamonds are tiny and easily transported. Plus, I'm really enjoying looking at those pretties.

Debby I am glad you made the best decision for you but I was looking forward to seeing your AVR studs :) You still have the AVCs that you can trade in, correct? I bet there are D IFs in your future :) Best of luck with the paintings and it is nice to see some restraint on PS (although I do enjoy looking at all the bling!) Can't wait to see your Leon...when will you get it?

Great choice Debby! There will always be other diamonds, always. It's great that you're setting up another studio! :appl: I love your work and am glad that you are doing so well.

So sweet. Thank you.

Here are a couple of photos of my Dutch studio:

This is my desk with my drawing studies and Pricescope on the monitor for when I need some procrastinatin'

And here's some paintings I have going. I like to work on like 8 to 10 paintings at a time. You never know when you're gonna hit a homerun, so it's best to up at bat a lot

You see the big painting of the birds on the side? That's a commission that's just gonna be too expensive to get to the States, hence the 2nd studio. The little niche I found in the artworld is having my work be very very good for my prices. I think most people who sell at my prices sorta suck ;) But that gives me a good foothold, you know? Anywho... Thus the shipping to America comes in to be about a 3rd of the price, which is not cool. I can't tack that on and stay in the niche and I can't eat it either. The studio there won't be a grand affair. Just a decent sized room in which I can paint and take care of my American business. But I'm stoked and feel lucky to need to have to do it. Counting my blessings.

Hey Amy! I know what you mean. Once I had the realization, I was very very happy I could just make a phonecall. I still miss em, though I never had em, but I'm sure it'll pass. I wanna see your project. Do you have a thread on that going?

Hey my lady! I was too : ( in the video, Jon has them in those little holders that already look like bezels. Had me drooling. And I can always trade my J AVCs up. Gives me something to look forward to. Like one of these years I'm gonna make a pilgrimage to GOG and wouldn't it be cool to look at the little lovelies in person and do the trade up then for instant gratification? Getting my Leon at the end of Dec I think. Will post ridiculous amounts of photos, I promise!

Hahaha you know what, I meant to say 'Rockafeller"!

MissyDebby, although i was waiting impatiently for those beauties to be delivered to you, i have to admit that i totally approve of your final decision on the matter. You are a person who works very hard for her money and you already have an amazing project in process. It makes so much sense to act responsibly and not get extremely carried away...As you said, you never know what tommorow brings, it's best if you work at one project at a time and after you have already saved the money for it. This will take a big anxiety burden off your chest and it will allow you to keep a better control on how much you spend. Obviously we all have other priorities too in life, besides bling, and i agree with what you're saying about making the setup of your new studio your first priority right now. I'm sure that being such a talented artist and such a hard working person will allow you to get those beauties in the near future! For the time being, focus on the gorgeous LM ring :appl:
