When I was in HS, my grandmother got sick and ended up in the hospital. The family was called together, as she was given a few days. Most of the time was spent at the hospital, and it was wearing on me. I asked if I could get away for a little bit (hey, I was young) and see some friends that I''d only see once or twice a year. While out with my friends, I felt a kiss on my cheek. I told my friends that my grandma just died. I waited about half an hour before going back to the hospital. The aide was just finishing making up her bed.

That is so sad but sweet at the same time. Your grandma loved you. Very sweet.

A few weeks ago, one of the dogs woke up (mind you, she sleeps like a log) and started growling at something at the foot of the bed. Luckily, I was so zonked I didn''t care.

I''ve found this thread really interesting, but I don''t really have any stories to contribute. I''m intrigued by these pictures with "orbs" in them. Does anyone have an example to post? Do these orbs only appear in pictures taken inside, or outside as well? I''d love to see what they look like.

St Augustine is the oldest city in the US, and have several ghost tours.
Here are some pics from one of the tours.

Ah, thanks for the links, but I''m not really seeing anything I''m convinced is anything out of the ordinary. Night pictures are always tricky, especially if there is any kind of bright light in them and you don''t have the camera on a tripod. And why would these things only show up on film (or digitally these days, I guess)? The best camera still doesn''t hold a candle to the human eye. Does anyone have any personal pictures?

I''ll try to find one for you, I know that since I''ve moved into this house (a year ago) I''ve taken a lot of pictures with "orbs". Although, a huge part of me thinks it''s a dust particle caught by the light, I like to think i''ts a spirit or one of my husbands guardian angels.

Here''s the best I could do without going through my CD''s.

Well, I suppose that''s intriguing at least--not sure I''d even really notice it unless I were looking for it. So why do people automatically assume these are spirits? Is it just lack of a better explanation? I mean, if I were a spirit, I sure hope that''s not all I would be. And since everyone says they see actual people, or at least shadows, why does a bright little blob mean spirit? Or are these little spots of energy different from actual ghosts? Am I just comparing apples with oranges? I''m not trying to be skeptical--this is just a foreign concept to me. Thanks for the pic!

hehe that looks like a flash orb to me or something...from the flash. i get random stuff like that in photos a lot too.

speaking on the whole pet thing, does anyone get SO creeped out when your dog suddenly sits up and stares randomly into space (or like the kitties staring at the table kinda thing)...i am always like WHAT are you looking at, nothing is there!!!!?!?! my friend's dog does this sometimes when they are sleeping, and she is always so freaked out...since she can't see anything.

oh and amber you mentioned you talked to your bf about this last nite in your house, that is something i would never do based on what my mom told me when growing up, aka if you don't already have a spirit then doing something like that would invite one in supposedly!

Mara,

Mazie does that and it spooks me. She sits up on our bed and looks out into the hallway and starts growling. It is like "what are you looking and growling at". Our other three Lhasa''s used to do that too. They have sinced passed away.

I posted my only ghost story in the other thread, but I just remembered a 'paranormal' story my Mom used to tell. She swears it's true. It doesn't have anything to do with ghosts, but it's still pretty weird.

One day (several years ago), my Mom was driving around, running some errands. Suddenly, she had a flash of an image of my grandmother's face, covered in blood. Without thinking, she headed toward my grandmother's house and when she got there, she found her, covered in blood. My grandmother had fallen and had hit her nose, causing it to bleed all over her face.

Weird, eh?

In college, I lived in my sorority house for a year. The house was over two huindred years old. Beautiful and huge but creepy at night. We had a room called a "mourning" room which is where, back in the day, they''d hold wakes when someone died. One day a friend of ours said she had a vivid dream, like she''d never had before, and she saw the family standing in the mourning room and talked to the ghost of the girl who had died. We were all soooo freaked out!
I am Catholic and was always warned against ouija boards, so it made me curious. Since I knew that house was old and probably had some activity, my roommates and I made a ouija board out of paper. I couldnt believe it, it moved around like crazy. Didnt spell much of anything, at one point just went through the alphabet. Afterwards we were all really creeped out, one of our roommates was acting weird and we thought she might be possessed (i think she was trying to creep us out though, lol). We all said an our father together in order to go to sleep that night. Never again did I play with one of those!

Amber,
I was just reading through the other ghost thread where you mentioned "Ghost Hunters" on sci-fi...I LOVE that show and I love how they don''t chalk up every little sound or dust particle as ghostly!! It''s also because of that show I"m a more skeptical of orbs than I used to be although I do still think that sometimes it can truly be energy, but some shows overdramatize it waaayyy too much (Most Haunted on Travel channel). Back onto Ghost Hunters, did you see the episode where they were at the lighthouse in St. Augustine, Fl? Now THAT episode gave me chills for weeks!! Although I''m terrified after watching these shows, I''m drawn to them like bugs to light...

How old was the girl that died? If it was a child, could she have been going through the alphabet because she hadn''t learned to spell yet?

About the orbs: No one has a real way of explaining what they are. My friend and I took some GREAT pictures of a few of them one night on campus, and they actually move. It was pitch black and just looking around you couldn''t see anything because it was so dark... but when we took a picture there were these huge bright orbs and we just snapped picture after picture without moving the camera and you could see the thing moving up and to the right. It couldn''t have been the flash because there was nothing for it to reflect off of, and there were TONS of pictures with these in them. Instead of saying it''s a spirit, ghost, or whatever, try thinking of it as just a ball of energy. Have you ever walked in the room and felt that the energy level was at a certain level, where it was actually tangible? It''s the same thing with these orbs. They are just balls of energy (aka spirits) that for some reason show up in pictures.

*M*

Speaking of orbs, it reminded me of a story. I wouldn't even tell this if I didn't have witnesses, it's too *fill in the blank*.

When I was about 16, I went with two guy friends to a party. We had a few beers and decided to leave. It was out in the country and we were driving down this dark country road. I was sitting inbetween them. All of a sudden, I saw a ball of light coming straight at the windshield. All I could think was, what the hell is that? and it's coming straight for us. I didn't say a word, I was frozen. With that, it passed through the windshield (no breakage, no noise) and softly landed with a thump inbetween me and the drivers shoulders. I actually felt it.

Of course, I was not going to say a word, they'd think I'd lost it, or that I was really drunk.
9.gif
But with that, the driver says, did you see that?
6.gif
I said yeah. He said, did you feel it hit us? I said yeah again. We both looked at each other like, WTH?? and agreed to keep it to ourselves.
9.gif

I don't have a clue what it was, but I've asked a couple people and they've both suggested it was an orb.

I don't really know what to suggest to the OP. If it were me, I think I might have a minister or someone come over and bless the house/rid it of any spirits.

Holy crap! I never put those two together.....AHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Another thing about my friend''s dream that made it weird. She mentioned to us that she always dreamt in black and white, but this dream was color. I dont remember if my friend mentioned how old the girl was.
When we were playing with the board I thought whatever it was might be playing around with us by spelling the alphabet, never did it occur to me that it could have been a child. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK

Okay, Amber, you really freaked me out this morning before church. I had to wait until I got home to write this though. It was about three years ago, and our sons were sharing one bedroom as they do now. It just happened to be the other bedroom. My DH was up late playing this game on the computer. It was such an evil version of D&D that I could not sleep in the room when he was playing it. What he was thinking, I do not know. He was not a Christian yet though, so he really didn't know.

Anyway, I was sleeping downstairs on the couch. (I will tell the story from my perspective as this is how it happened to me). The next morning my oldest son was telling me that he didn't like his room. He keeps having bad dreams in there. He said that he saw a shadow man over his bed. He was very tall and skinny and he was wearing a hat. (creeped out yet?) I knew immediately that we had a problem. I told my husband, and he went pale as a ghost (no pun intended). He said that the night before at about 2:00 in the morning possibly 3 or so, he had been playing and he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. Some tall black thin shadow with a hat moved past the doorway headed towards the children's bedroom. He said that he had such a sense of evil emanating from the thing that it scared him to death. It also froze him in place. When he was able to move, he actually got up to go and protect the kids from this thing. He didn't see anything in the kid's bedroom, so he went back to playing the game. He said that the only light that was on was the computer screen, and you could still see the blackness as darker than dark and moving.

Ten minutes later, John woke up screaming and crying from a nightmare.

Well, when he told me all of this I really knew that we had a problem. There was a doorway open in our home to evil. I began to question him about it. (he has lived in our house since he was a young boy) He said that he had had nightmares in that room as a child that involved someone murdering his father and putting his cut off head on a piano. (sorry to be so graphic, but there is a point) I was telling his sister about what was going on. She still cannot sleep without a television on for noise, light, and comfort. She started to tell me about a bad dream that she had had (I did not tell her about her brother's first). It was the same dream of her father being murdered and his head on a piano. Guys I could not make this stuff up. She also described the shadow man to a tee. I was completely freaked about this point. Next, enter the parents. My father-in-law had seen this shadow man himself years ago, and sometimes at his new house. I told my DH we had to close this doorway. We kept digging. Come to find out, my in-laws had purchased a ouija board years ago (early '70s) and had stored it in the closet of the room my children were sleeping in. He and his sister had played with it as children. (from what I have read, ouija is a yes-yes board) oui is french for yes and ja is German for yes. You must say yes to open the doorway to evil and demons. So between the ouija board and the computer game, we had opened a heck of a big doorway in our home to evil.

Once I knew what doorway to close, I was so relieved. The first one was easy. My DH threw away the computer game. I prayed about it with my DH and my Daddy to renounce the permission of the ouija board and the game and any other inadvertent opening. We have not seen that thing since. My DH however did see a little cherub looking child leave the room late one night a week later. He thought it was one of the kids and went after him to see where he was going, and the cherub disappeared. My DH thinks that it was an angel sent to seal the doorway because instead of the sense of evil of the other thing, he felt a sense of "job done" "all set" as it exited the room. We have not had any problems since. The kids don't have nightmares either.

We are so careful what we watch on tv or let the kids watch just for that reason. You never what can open a doorway that demons can use to harass you in your home. Since this happened my DH has become a Christian and is even more careful than I am about stuff. Nothing like seeing evil personified to scare you being very careful not to ever let it happen again.

Hope this helps anyone who questions. Amber, you are in my prayers.

That description scared the heck out of me!! When I was about 11 I saw the same thing in the doorway to my house. He was taller than the top of the door frame, and looked as if he were actually made out of a shadow, if that makes sense. He had a trenchcoat like thing on and a hat the was similar to a derby hat and also black. He stared at me, I stared at him... and then I ran. To this day my mom does not believe me
20.gif
. I couldn''t sleep for weeks.

*M*

3 things:

1. This orb talk is really freaking me out!! Last night I had a dream that was SO real. In my dream, I had woken up in the middle of the night. My room was dark...darker than usually. The entrance to my room is on the right side of me when I''m lying in bed. All of a sudden I see this bright orange and yellow fireball floating through the air coming towards me in bed. I start squinting my ese and trying to wake up. I''m like, "What the heck is that thing?!" It floats right up to my face...like a foot from my face. So I start panicking and I go to wake up my boyfriend who is sleeping next to me, but I''m paralyzed. I can''t turn my head. I can''t even make a noise.

It was so creepy. lol.

2. I always have dreams about family members that have died. Right after my grandfather died (he was my favorite person in the whole world) I had a dream that he had come to say goodbye...but he looked dissappointed in me. I tried to hug him and he just stood there. He didn''t even say anything. I figured it was because he saw the "whole" me after he died. I was 14 and hanging out with the wrong crowd...smoking cigarettes and stuff.

The only other time he appreared to me was a few months ago. It was weird...I went to my grandparents old house (my grandmother have since remarried and moved to florida) and when I walked in I saw my grandfather. I went to hug him, and he let me. It was crazy. I could smell his aftershave. It was so real.

3. Back when I was a senior in highschool I was driving around my small town waiting to meet up with friends so we could go to a party. I''m driving down the road and I see this THING in the air. It was just fixed in the air...not moving. It was very large and white and spherical, but it was far away. I had no idea what it was but it wasn''t a plane or the moon or a blimp. So I start driving toward it, but the trees on either side of the road kept blocking it from my sight. So I''d have to turn around and go the other way and look for it in my rearview mirror. When I saw it, I''d turn around and try to find it again. This went on and on and on until finally it just dissappeared. I was so freaked out about it I went to the POLICE STATION to find out what it could be. I think they thought I was nuts. But about a month later I was telling someone about it, and these people overheard me and freaked out because apparently they saw the same thing and no one believe them. I still have no idea what that thing was.

Okay four things....

4. Since I read that thing that cinderella posted about ghosts following you everywhere, I''ve gone google crazy and apparently a lot of people see that! YIKES! I wonder if it''s *true* or if they just have some sort of twitch in their brains. Freaky though.

ETA: Cinderella's story freaked me out, too. I had a dream about it last night, lol. I wonder why they are screaming at us. I mean, I've seen a LOT of "things" (ghosts, spirits, etc.) that weren't/ couldn't have been there, but none of them were ever screaming or bloody. I actually feel bad for the friend. That would be a terrible thing to have to see all of the time. Too much like the sixth sense for me thanks!

My husband said that your description freaked him out right down to the trenchcoat. I did not see this thing, but he did. He did say that what he saw was appearing to wear a top hat. He also said that it was taller than the door frame. I specifically left that part out. You nailed it, dear.

It was about three years ago, and our sons were sharing one bedroom as they do now. It just happened to be the other bedroom. My DH was up late playing this game on the computer. It was such an evil version of D&D that I could not sleep in the room when he was playing it. What he was thinking, I do not know. He was not a Christian yet though, so he really didn''t know.

Anyway, I was sleeping downstairs on the couch. (I will tell the story from my perspective as this is how it happened to me). The next morning my oldest son was telling me that he didn''t like his room. Some tall black thin shadow with a hat moved past the doorway headed towards the children''s bedroom. He said that he had such a sense of evil emanating from the thing that it scared him to death. It also froze him in place. When he was able to move, he actually got up to go and protect the kids from this thing. He didn''t see anything in the kid''s bedroom, so he went back to playing the game.

She started to tell me about a bad dream that she had had (I did not tell her about her brother''s first). Come to find out, my in-laws had purchased a ouija board years ago (early ''70s) and had stored it in the closet of the room my children were sleeping in.

My DH thinks that it was an angel sent to seal the doorway because instead of the sense of evil of the other thing, he felt a sense of ''job done'' ''all set'' as it exited the room. We have not had any problems since. The kids don''t have nightmares either.

To this day my mom does not believe me

. I couldn''t sleep for weeks.

My husband said that your description freaked him out right down to the trenchcoat. I did not see this thing, but he did. He did say that what he saw was appearing to wear a top hat. He also said that it was taller than the door frame. I specifically left that part out. You nailed it, dear.

Oh sweet goodness! So freaked out... before I posted I looked up hat pictures to try and decide exactly which hat was the best description... I almost put top hat, but decided that it was a tiny bit rounder than a top hat, but almost the same height, so I went with Derby. That''s really terrifying. I''m glad you got it out.

Hey everyone, all I have to say is... freakin'' A. You guys have seen the shadow with the hat??? Man. Yeah, I thought it was gone, and back at the old house- but SOMETHING is here. Goodness. Thanks for all the stories and help, it really IS good to know I''m not alone. I think I''d better do a little more reading. Thank you everyone.

I didn''t know yours looked like that, too... that is just beyond normal. It''s easy to explain away if you think you ARE the only one seeing it. Less so if other people are seeing it, too. Gosh, I wish I wasn''t alone tonight!

Sounds like you guys are describing the shadow people.
Thanks lucky! I knew the instant I saw it that it wasn''t good. I had an intense fear that I had never felt before or since. It was like as the thing was looking it was "targeting" me... I sound like a crazy! But I swear it happened as I looked right at it and I was wide awake downstairs. It happened almost ten years ago and thinking about it even now terrifies me.

My son would see my father in law, who died when he was 18 months old. And he would have conversations with him, and when I say, who are you talking to he would answer grandpa and it freaked me out. Sometimes he would say, innocently, do you want to talk to him? NO WAY JOSE! I did not like him when he was alive, thanks but no thanks...

DF,
I suggest you not express your dislike of your FIL!
