Hi all. I’m in the market for a new wedding band for an upcoming vow renewal. I just want plain metal and platinum is the obvious choice because my e-ring is platinum. However, my husband’s new ring is tungsten and I kind of wanted to get one to match so I’m wondering if it will damage my platinum e-ring (3-stone) if I wear it with a tungsten wedding band? I know tungsten is much harder. I can’t seem to find any information about this online from an unbiased source who isn’t trying to sell me something. I know there are some fabulous experts on here. Thanks so much!

Just something for thought: a tungsten ring is so hard that it cannot be cut off, in case of emergency. It has to be broken off with vice grips.
Do you own vice grips? I would buy them if you get a tungsten ring. Maybe get 2 sets and keep one set in your car.

Why does this matter? If an injury occurs to your wrist, hand or arm, the fingers can quickly swell up. Even a little swelling can make rings impossible to take off. This could cut off circulation to the finger, endangering the finger. The rings would have to be cut off ASAP.

It's important to remove rings right away if you have any arm or hand injury. In the moment it's easy to forget. My husband had to have his wedding band cut off when he hurt his hand at work but forgot to remove his ring right away.

I would not do tungsten carbide. Even titanium makes me nervous. The only advantage is that it's hard to scratch. But who wants to look like they got married this morning? I love the patina on my cheapie 14K band.
