I feel like it''s "sacrilegious" to mention Cartier around here, especially as a first post, but I thought I''d share my recent visit. I can''t justify spending ~$15,000 on a 1.09 ct. H VS1 round diamond ring with a modest amount of side stones, but as a tip for those who might consider it ... I was told that the Canadian and US boutiques still have the same prices. With a ~$1.25:$1 exchange rate and 8% of the 13% sales tax waived when a plane ticket is presented it makes for a better deal.

Everything but the price is gorgeous though. It looks like I''ll be going the way of having the ring custom made and have narrowed down the list to Leon Mege and Dimend SCAASI. I''m concerned that Leon''s price will be quite bit higher, but from what I''ve read around here the quality stands out. While I''m not considering a Tiffany Legacy style ring, I did see the best inspired designs on the IceStore''s website, which could possibly speak for their craftsmanship. Maybe they''re worth considering, too? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think some people have been surprised at how reasonable Leon''s prices are. From what I''ve seen, his quality is second to none.

The cost of a custom setting will depend on how elaborate it is. Have you seen anything on Leon Mege's website that you like? He is not overly expensive compared to other designers and custom jewelers. Post a link to something you like.

You first want to set a budget and then shop for your stone.

Here is a stone to consider. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5406/
