Mahenge spinel?

You are on FI-AH!!!!

Mahenge and that little goodie from Barry, which hardly shows any pink. However did you guess that one anyway? I want to know the thought process behind that amazingly accurate guess!

LG - can you give me the specifics of your demantoid, please?
Hi Crasru

It''s 6.35x6.37mm, 1.24ct.
LG,

Congratulations! It is not a small stone for a demantoid, and such a beautiful color. (You are right, Indy! I do want to say, "can you give me your demantoid, please? It would really make my day!").

Thanks Crasru, I''m happy with it, but I need to stop buying green coloured stones, half of my collection is green!

Freke,
You’ve definitely surprised me; I thought you didn’t like orange/pink/red colours?

Gary''s drop this week of red stones got my red-lusting cogs turning again..
getting something in luscious pinky-red, hopefully photos to come soon.

The funny thing is, my memory usually isn''t that great but I have such a love of gemstones and jewelery that I tend to remember what I read here! I think it was in a thread where a guy wanted to buy a colorless stone for an engagement ring and someone pointed out that it would be nice if Barry could cut a large colorless spinel-- you were enthusiastic about it.

I love Barry''s cutting style, the color of his stones, his prices, and his kind disposition. I probably check his site twice a day (I wish every day was Wednesday!). I bought his purple spinel last week and saw the colorless spinel and thought "I wonder if Freke will buy it?" Are you very pleased with it? I hope you post some pictures.

Lol Chrono! I do have a thing for pure hot pinks (think Barbie!), and I've always wanted a big fat cushion for a plain necklace (like my asscher peridot!) that has a zing-y color. The ONE image I have of it looks very pink with a hint of red, but not overly red, and not really orange at all. So we'll see. I could end up hating it. It should get here monday, but there are some logistics that are turning out to be issues...

That is too funny BN! What a great memory you have. How are you feeling about that purple spinel you got? I took a few pictures of the colorless (really, I have a VERY hard time seeing ANY pink) but it was at night and not looking amazing. Plus I didn't really do a full photoshoot, and I have no idea where my tripod is! I'll post a pic. No promises on quality!

Also, a sneak peek at the mahenge color. It has a quality that isn''t going to appeal to most. But I was after size and color, so obviously sacrifices had to be made.

Nice spinels Freke! I can''t wait to see pics of your mahenge!!

The gemstone bug has bitten my daughter. She was browsing thebay with me one night and fell for a stone. It was listed as Intense Pink and from a trusted vendor so we bid on it, and she won it! It does have one noticeable inclusion but not bad for >$15.

She loves the fluor.

Wow, Freke, that colorless spinel is beautiful. Actually looks nicer in your picture than Barry''s. I''m looking forward to more pictures of it and the Mahenge, as well.

I''m really liking my purple spinel. I''m going to take pictures of it today, since we have sun, and I''ll post them tonight.

I''m really hoping Barry''s going to have some lavender spinel soon. I''ve been watching for it since he had those last spinels a couple of months back.

Brandy, your daughter''s heart spinel is very sweet! What a great deal. I''m going to sound silly asking this, but I''m new-- how do you get it to fluoresce?

BN, have you asked him for any lav spinel? Those go FAST. And I hardly ever see them posted on his site. If they are, they are gone almost immediately.

ETA: Thanks for the compliment on my mad photog skillz. Not really.

I'm not surprised he had problems. I had problems too. The thing is like a tiny mirror, so I had to distance and angle the camera away from the stone, and make sure I was under a white ceiling....It just reflects everything!

Its nice and sunny out right now. I should try to take some pics!

Freke, your ring is beautiful.

Brandy the spinel is great! I am a sucker for hearts.

I have asked him about lavender spinel. The first time, I think I was asking him about a couple of different stones, one of them being the lav spinel, and he answered the question about the one stone, but didn''t say anything about the spinel. The second time, he said he thought he could help, but then I didn''t hear back from him. He''s so nice that I just didn''t want to bug him, but it''s been awhile so I''ll ask again

Love the new pics of your colorless spinel! And the Leon settings are beautiful!! I really like the millegrain on the first and the double prongs on the second.

This is a purple spinel I got from Barry a couple of weeks ago. It''s 1.47 c and 7 mm.

I''ll put it in its own thread this weekend.

Thank you! I really like this stone

I took several pictures of it and I''ll post them this weekend. And would you believe I asked Barry about lavender spinel and I''ve got one of those coming next week! Yipee! It''s 6.8 mm and beautiful!

Why don''t we get pics NOW?!?!?!?!

I need a purple spinel...

Umm, I''ll see if I can add another picture.

Yeah, purple spinel is beautiful. Why not ask him if he has any rough left? He''s had a few lately.

I already did.

I currently don''t really have the budget for something like that, but coming up on next month, I might just have it.

I don''t have the budget because I have something colored and fabulous heading my way...

Oh! What is it? Are you having your mahenge spinel set in its pendant?

Here''s another pic of my purple spinel.

A while ago, when I posted some photos of my John Dyer stones, one of the things that came up was the frustration some of us have with his website, so you might be interested to know that in a few weeks he''s about to launch a new and much easier-to-use version. I got to have a peek at it and one of the best things is that his stones are listed with retail prices! - I don''t think he''s selling retail but it''s good to know what we might expect to pay - and there are better search and sorting options too.
Well can you tell I''m excited?

Baby Nurse,
Your purple spinel looks awesome; not too dark with lots of dispersion.

Klewis,
Thanks for the heads up. I can''t wait to browse the more user friendly version of John''s website.

klewis, I''m so excited to hear this! I''ve been to his site many times and it will be so nice to look at his stones and actually know what they cost!

Do you have to work with someone like Wink in order to purchase one of his stones?

Thank you, Chrono. I am very pleased with it.

You know, I''ve bought a lot of stones over the last few months and I''m going to start posting them here. It''s a great place to share.

I took a lot of pictures of the purple spinel and I will start a thread on it this weekend.

From my prior conversation with John, you can also order his stones through Richard Wise.
