I dropped off the blue zircon pair (bottom of previous page) at the jewelers yesterday to be set into simple stud earrings using 14k white gold Stuller settings. I also placed an order at Rogue Gems Link, a new website from the sparklequest folks on Etsy that you may want to check out. Lots of Oregon Sunstone, cabochons, and pretty agates. I ordered the chryoprase pair for earrings (I like the 8 x 10 size, and so many come larger than that), a pair of 6 mm round London blue topaz, and one of those stormy sea grey blue aquamarine cabs that I have been admiring for some time. If I like it in person, it will probably go into a ring.

Intergem was in town this past weekend. I picked up a handful of sterling chains for DD, and these oval blue zircon for myself. The stones were not matched by the vendor as a pair, but I think they will work for me as earrings. One is 2.09ct and 7.7 x 6.3 mm, and the other is 1.93 ct and 7.8 x 6.2 mm. The plumper one is the tiniest bit bluer. The photos were taken outside on a sunny day, left photo in the shade and right photo in the sun. The green reflections are probably the grass and trees, because it is finally almost summer here. The vendor is Bill Vance of VanceGems. Great fun playing with his stones. Pictures are great, but in person is better.

I always check out Vancegems when I go to intergem. I'm having one of their gems I purchased in the process of being set right now. They have many exotic gems in precision cuts, and PS'ers would be eating them up, but their website is always down. I told his wife Elke to get it up so I could show everyone here what beautiful gemmies they have. Bill cuts the rough himself, and sources it from shows like Tuscon. They have an ebay store, but they don't have any of their decent material on ebay. If anyone is looking for anything interesting, you should email them. Their website is vancegems.com, and all there really is right now is an email address and a phone number. I think they're out of Delaware.

So I have not bought any colored stones..

But I took my Mahenge spinel to work because there is a lamp that we use to for certain types of exam that has the purple UV lights. I put it under, and it totally has fluorescence! It was so cool. I went onto amazon and bought a UV flashlight, and it came in today!!!

But it requires batteries, and I don't have any

.

So I am hoping to get some tomorrow and see if my Burmese spinel does the same. I will try to get some pictures of the Mahenge, it is really cool.

I put it in here because I wanted to vent my battery frustration, but didn't want to start a new thread.

I''m being tempted by this guy,....

Haven''t quite pulled the trigger though..

Thank you marcyc, though I must admit the winter sun brightened its colour a bit more than real life.

TL - I just bought a couple of amethysts from Vancegem's ebay website. I know these stones are not necessarily top of their crop, but I suspect they are unheated and I just want to see how their products look like. I shall keep you posted.

LG - can you give me the specifics of your demantoid, please?

I've been a good girl without a lot to share. lol ok kidding

A few stones that will come my way in the next 2-3 weeks.

1.00 ct rasberry colored Namya spinel. Its from one of my favorites on ebay, GIT cert. Typical of some of their pieces it wasn't super cheap but still relatively inexpensive.

2 more that are coming: 1 is a 3ct Magok spinel...light pink/orange. I didn't spend much and comes with a BGL cert. Its a totally new vendor on ebay so we shall see what I get.The same seller had a much more vivid one thats 1.36ct it also comes with BGL cert so I will also see what I get with that.

Once I get these in I'll update.

Can't wait to see everyone's upcoming projects!

Ah Ha! Sarahbear. The wheel has come full circle and we are here! I was going to buy this one but it was sold too fast. Soooooooooooo what can I say? You have great taste. That is an awesome stone. I expect the tone of the red to flash both deep and bright. Congratulations!

Sarahbear, your stone looks very pretty. Great color.

Okay, Ive got my Reveal® lighting on now, please commence with the colors.

I know I know! Neener neener neener!

Is it that spinel Barry had that was almost colorless but had a hint of pink?

Good guess baby nurse! You are correct.

And hot pink/reddish.
