hmm heated spinel?

I was wondering about that myself.

I just heard back from the seller. He mistakenly put heated because he was listing a sapphire at the same time and that was heated.

Now that is one RED spinel!

This seller has quite some high quality gems, with high price tags of course. Did you all see their pariaba tourmalines?

It is interesting to hear that they will leave an treament description error uncorrected!

Note their pictures are taken under such strong lights that the shadow are fading to nearly visible.

I bought this red spinel recently and am waiting to receive it. It is not as bright, but still a lovely red and much more affordable.

That''s a nice spinel you have there. The seller said he didn''t realize the error until I told him and will correct it shortly. The Paraiba''s are beautiful.

By the end of the week, I hope. I cannot wait! It will arrive with another pink spinel claimed to be top color (by history this seller has been sticking to his words). Yah!

Thanks for all your kind words!

Richard S, is that a new picture of you in your avita?

Here is I have over 3 carats spinel, too

the color is I believe ruby red. It doesn''t turn dark (I mean very dark red) at all. The color just red in any lighting condition even on poor lighting condition, just like the picture. The only problem is that the spinel is kind of poorly cut because I believe the cutter tried to retain its weight

You can see the slight window because its pavilion is off center, but the window in this spinel acts like facets on emerald cut stone''s pavilion. When you put againts your skin or anything (especially metal), the window doesn''t show (I mean just all red color not clear white). I just love the color

And it has a little bit clarity problem, but still clean enough (the inclusion is hard to notice, only with careful inspection)

The stone was photographed under low lighting conditon (almost evening). Under daylight, the stone glows all over its body, just like the bottom part of the stone on the picture

MJO- what an amazing spinel! The red is so bright that it almost seems to fluoresce!

and TKC- that is a beautiful spinel you have too!

I want one!!! (pricescope... what an expensive habit

Yes, I had accumulated a few years on me since the last one, so I figured I''d update.

TKC, that is one killer spinel as well. You guys are picking the cream of the crop.

I know what you''re talking about with the window disappearing when you put the stone against the skin. Some stones pull that off beautifully. Even though these native cutters might not be as technically "precise" as a western cutter, they usually know what they are doing in preserving weight and value while still getting a pleasing stone.

This is probably a good thing to remember. Awhile ago I was admiring a vintage ring with a six-carat (!) sapphire. The gem snob in me went : "Ack! Look at that window!" when I held it up to the light.

When I put it on my finger however, it looked gorgeous...

Forget the spinels, Richard''s new glasses are pretty hot!

But yeah, those are some nice reds. Hard to tell what they really look like from the pictures, though I am sure they will not disappoint.

Talking about Richard''s new glasses, doesn''t he look a little like Larry King?
