Choosing A Stone- Emerald or Cushion

So my BF and I are in the process of designing my ring. We originally were thinking an antique cushion that is little rounder mounted in one of Leon's micro pave bands that also has pave on the crown. But as we have been looking I have started to like the emerald cut stones more and more. I want around a 2 carat stone and when I was set on the antique cushion was willing to downgrade on color for a bigger stone b/c I thought warmer would be ok with a more antique look.

So I guess my questions are:
1) What do ya'll think about the emerald vs cushion question?
2) How much more is color obvious in an emerald stone?

Thanks everyone in advance!

They're totally different! One is geometric and steppy. One is soft and sparkly. I always think of EC as being more "modern" (because I think geometric + steppy = art deco = EC), and cushions as being more antique-y. This is really a question of which one do you like better?

Part of the issue is that an emerald won't reflect as much light (but you'll see the steps, which is what people seem to like about ECs). So a lower color EC really does look like it's lower color, whereas with a well-cut cushion, you might be sufficiently blinded so that you wouldn't see the color difference as much.

IMO, they're really different -- you gotta go with your gut on this one!

It is more obvious, larger virtual facets(flashes) in ECs hide warmth to a lesser extent. How much more obvious depends on your perception and color sensitivity.

It is really comparing apples to oranges and will come down to your own personal perference both can be gorgeous especially in a Leon Mege setting. The contemporary look of well cut Asscher or EC is unmatched in the cushion world. On the other hand if faceup size is a primary concern for you than a cushion may be a better choice, both because they faceup larger and because brilliant cuts allow for lower color and clarity before either become a noticeable detractor.

Thanks everyone in advance!

Thank you, guys, I can't believe how kind and helpful everyone is on this site. I think we might email Perry to get some possible diamonds and go from there.

So exciting!

cushions can be lovely but they are kind of overdone in my opinion. i have an EC and feel they are forever classic (Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie O)...........
