These kinds of cuts can be very firey. There is a 3 dimensional aspect to the light play that is very pleasing. These cuts can show a tilt window, because of the steep crown I think. And they don’t have the same degree of brightness you see in some other old cuts and in modern cuts. Sometimes they can look a bit glassy as they are not designed to reflect overhead lighting. I would not say these are the most outstanding in the sparkle and flash department, compared to later cuts that were more designed for overhead lightibgt . I think they are more interesting for slow languid light play and fire. They looks spectacular in indirect and diffuse lighting and show beautiful spectral rainbows across the face that seem to exist deep within the stone.
Do you have any other pictures?
You had me at chunky monkey omc
I would call that one a super chonky omc, LOVE. I’m tagging @maryjane04 cause she has a halo with a delicious super chonky omc. I’m also going to attach a couple videos of an incredible super chonky monkey omc from Erstwhile so you can see how that one performs…
I would for sure ask about their return policy… if it’s good, and you decide to see her in person, keep us posted! The couple super chunky omc’s that I’ve seen in person have been very ooooold omc’s. More square shaped with significantly defined windmill’s and strong kozibe… leaning towards almost peruzzi type omc’s.
Hello and welcome to the old wonky cut club! I love my chunky old mine but I really didn't love the old setting. I find that these stones don't play as well on their own. There was something missing when it was in a solitaire setting. I love the kozibe and the high crown but sometimes on its own the faceting style appears more chaotic. You may like this though so I hope there's a good return policy.
I always knew that this was a temporary setting. I started collecting little old cut melees and had it reset into a cluster and I just love it so much more now.
Haha @lavenderdragonfly23 I know that Erstwhile ring very well, I actually copied it for my cluster lol.
She is super chonky and definitely an OMC vs. a Peruzzi.
Thank you for the videos, fun to see that beauty in action and a lovely setting also!!!
Such a gorgeous cluster ring with a really fabulous OMC! I really love yours in her new setting, a great fit!!! Do you feel your OMC has lots of rainbow flashes?
but the table is fairly large and so I suspect in more diffuse indoor lighting and looking straight into the table there will be a bit of leakage. This will affect optics.
Yea… my favorite part about that ring is the stone is sooo chonky that the box doesn’t close![]()
I love her wonkiness and I love the cut, color and fluor enough to forgive some of the given performance differences she will have vs a modern stone. The color is wild and it’s a very old diamond so very rare.
Some things to consider. The condition of the girdle is unknown. The cut “quality” is hard to assess. This is less important with such a strange and rare diamond, but the table is fairly large and so I suspect in more diffuse indoor lighting and looking straight into the table there will be a bit of leakage. This will affect optics. I’d need better face in pictures in diffuse indoor lighting to be sure. Something to consider if it matters to you.
I love the weird color.
Thank you so much. I feel like on her own she's still fiery but it's not as aesthetically pleasing. Rainbow flashes don't happen in office lighting lol. But if you're outside in the sun a lot then you'll get lots of fire!

I likely wouldn’t ever remove her from her setting so won’t even know about any hidden girdle issues she could possibly have. Her setting is hallmarked made in Vienna during the Austia-Hungarian empire. Also still has her makers marks.
