Yup, that would be me...

Dani, I love the color of that stone! It looks like an orange creamsicle! LOL!

LOL.

Now I want ice cream.

Ohhhh, me too! Has it really been helping you ladies get through the waiting period for your rings?!?!

Ditto. Gorgeous stone. Love that citrine. RH doesn''t waste his time and talent on lousy rough. Bet it is wonderful in person.

Orange creamsicles are my favorite! And that stone is fabulous!

OK, here's where I am:

I got a reply from Richard Homer, stating that he would recommend doing a cushion cut as opposed to an asscher cut. He can do a 10mm x 10mm stone for around $300. (He may still be willing to do an asscher though . . . I'm waiting to hear from him further.)

I also got a reply from Jeff White, who will do an asscher for me, around 10mm x 10mm for around $300.

So, I could go with RH or JW, and the price would be the same for the size and color stone I'm interested in. What I need to decide is, do I really want an asscher or a cushion, and which cutter should I go with.

If it helps, I'm seriously considering this setting, which Dani found at NSC (but I would have it made in 18k yellow gold): http://www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/Sapphires/Sapphire-Jewelry/Sapphire-Rings/Jewelry=J683 Thanks again, Dani!

HELP!!!

I really don''t think that you could go wrong either way. As long as you''re going for a lighter color of citrine (which I think you are from what you said before) both cuts will look great. The concave cut would really sparkle in the lighter color (mine is a lighter pink and sparkles like CRAZY) and the lighter color would also really show off the step cuts of an asscher.

It really depends on what you''re looking for. Step cuts are a different kind of beautiful than concave cuts. I''ve only seen diamond asschers in person, never gemstone ones, but I know that the diamond asschers sparkle in a different way than say a round or cushion diamond.

I think the setting would look pretty with either cut. My only concern would be how protective the setting would be for your stone. Since citrine is softer than sapphire and diamond (kind of like my tourmaline is) you''d want to protect it as much as possible. I chose a bezel setting that also has prongs mainly to protect the corners of my stone from getting banged up.

Just me thinking out loud...

HELP!!!

Either Jeff White or Richard Homer will give you a beautifully cut stone......bear in mind, however, that concave cuts aren''t everyone''s "cup of tea". Have you seen one in person?

For me, I''d prefer a JW asscher any day, but that''s just me. Do you think Richard would send you a concave cut of something for you to look at, before doing a custom cut for your citrine project? Then you may have more confidence in your decision? For $300 it''s pretty cool to get a custom cut stone...somehow that makes it really special!

Just my $0.02 worth.....

Miss P & LS~

THANK YOU both for you input!

I''m really not sure about the asscher cut, just because step cuts don''t "bling" the way brilliant cuts (or concave facets) do. However, I''ve always loved asscher cut diamonds, and I think doing an asscher cut in a gemstone would satisfy my "asscher craving" without the expense of a diamond. I do love RH''s concave facets, from what I''ve seen online. I have never seen one in person, but I think Miss P''s in her avatar is absolutely gorgeous. I like hers because it has the outline of an asscher, but the "bling" of those concave facets! YUM!
18.gif

Jeff did mention in his e-mail to me that he doesn''t have any citrine just sitting around. He would have to order some rough and then cut me a stone (which he said would be no problem). He said this is because not many people request custom-cut citrines, due to the fact that citrine is a relatively inexpensive stone. He said the price per carat of citrine increases by 200% to 300% after custom cutting. (In other words, I guess I would be able to buy a nice pre-cut citrine for maybe $25 per carat, and with a custom cut it would cost me more like $50 to $75 per carat.) But, I still think it''s a great deal to have a perfect cut and be able to say my stone was custom cut by RH or JW, and I''m still only spending $300!
2.gif

And, Miss P, you''re right . . . I really prefer the lighter colors of citrine. I''m not a big fan of the "loud orange" colored ones. I''m really looking for almost a pastel orange, which is nice because that color is less expensive than the darker reddish-orange ones! LOL!
3.gif

I guess the next step is that I really need to figure out exactly which cut I want. Which is SO hard!!! The setting that Dani found has a cushion-cut stone in it in the pictures, and I think that shape looks beautiful in that setting. I''m trying to imagine what it might look like with an asscher in it, or with a stone cut like Miss P''s in it? (PhotoShop wizards, please feel free to show me! LOL!) Now, if only I could make up my freakin'' mind!!!

Alright, here''s an example with the cushion concave that I posted from RH earlier

And here''s one with an asscher....couldn''t figure out how to color it orange...

Here''s a dumb question: Are RH''s concave facets only on the bottom of the stone, or are the facets on the top concave too? Or does it just depend on the cut? I''m loving the look of the "blinginess" inside the stone you posted above, but I''m not sure I''m crazy about the idea of the facets on top being concave. I was thinking that the look was achieved by cutting concave pavilion facets, and having just normal facets on the top of the stone (like the table and all the facets around it, above the girdle).
33.gif

EEEEEK!!! Ms. P, I just saw the asscher you posted above, and trust me, it''s OK that you couldn''t color it orange . . . the color in the picture is actually what I''m kinda going for. AND IT''S GORGEOUS!!!

OK, now that I''ve seen that, I''m SERIOUSLY leaning toward the JW asscher. THANK YOU, MISS PINKY!!!!!

That''s it exactly - the concave is on the bottom of the stone, while the top is more traditional so you can see the facets underneath better.

And OMG I love that asscher...mmm...

And just for fun...here''s my stone in the setting

I think they all look beautiful! Sounds like Emm is leaning towards the Jeff White, LOL.

hehehe...I just had to! In my own defense, if IrishGirl changes her mind about the JW asscher, she could go with a citrine cut like mine so it was merely for photo reference to help her make the most educated decision possible.

Thanks for the photo reference, Miss P! And you''re right . . . I do love the cut of your stone, so it was very helpful to see it in the setting I''m probably gonna go with. (Don''t worry, you''re off the hook for the "photojack"!)

Irishgrrl, I just saw this thread, and I''m another screaming vote for an Asscher citrine! I have a darker orange EC Madiera Citrine set with 2 EC diamonds, and I just love it! I think the colour you''re going for is just going to be gorgeous!!!

Thanks, Lauren!

I don't own an asscher anything, and I've been lusting after one BAAAAAD lately. And ~ ahem ~ your avatar is NOT helping!!!
