Color change garnet

Hello again to all you experts out there. I was thinking of buying a 2ct+ color change garnet but wanted to know the prices on them. I found 2 I like but the prices are much more than I thought they would be. I will try and get pictures later but the specs are this:

Both have a wonderful top color change from violet/blue to rasberry/red.

1) Emerald cut 9.6 X5.9 2.57cts $800/ct

2) Oval cut 9 X 7.1 2.75cts $1600/ct

Any guess as to the current prices.

those are the range of prices i have seen......i would be curious as to what others think.

You might want to ask Marc Sarosi at AfricaGems about some options - perhaps the price per carat would not be lower, but they should have larger pieces for the same.

One of my suppliers has a rough color change garnet of 180 carats in his latest list. Deep raspberry to deep purple. Probably not the colors that you''re looking for, but at $20 per carat the price might make it attractive to you. Let me know if you want his number, (I''ve no idea if it''s still available).

Hi Michael,

It sounds like one that I had bought while ago. The colors were very dark with no life. If you think this will have life when cut I''ld love to find out more. The reason I wanted the blue to rasberry is that there are no other blue garnets and I love garnets. Thanks.
