Garnet is a "family" of similar stones with varying characteristics.

First you need to decide which "type" of garnet you want.

You might also tell us, what colors you expect it to change "from" and "to". That would be helpful.

Color-change garnet is almost invariably a mix of the pyrope and spessartine species, like the so-called Malaya garnets. There is quite a range of color combinations, as you point out. Since these stones are not usually available in large sizes, some indication of size and shape desired would also help. Fine color-change garnets are quite expensive.

What type of color change garnet are you looking for?
Typically you see the goldish brown color to greenish brown color. I don't find these too attractive. There are other color change coming from Kenya that are a bluish purple to red color change. These can be very pretty and are also pretty rare. I know a rough from a dealer in Kenya, and typically each year he manages to have maybe 20 of these stones is all.

I thing from green to red is pretty, does it hard to find that combination? or any other precious stone can have that kind color change? I am also interested in.

I apologise for the delayed response, everyone. I have been tied up with work though this is way more interesting.

I am looking for something that is reasonably rare, changes color from 1 end of the color spectrum to the other end (blue to red would be very nice), in perhaps a round shape (though I am not overly particular about the shape).

It does not have to be a garnet, but a color change gem that can met the above criteria.

I understand that also the color change in color change gems can range from a slight change to a strong change. I would be more interested in a strong color change.
