well, it was an interesting afternoon at gleim''s in los altos yesterday afternoon: a special trunk show of heirloom/antique jewelry. high quality, high end stones to feast one''s eyes upon, particularly rubies and sapphires.

the sapphires were even labeled with country of origen!

my eye was drawn to a particular cab star sapphire: 9 + carats. can you say $37,000?! i was also shown another star sapphire cab with better color but a delicate star. one was from kashmir the other from burma. incredible stones.....

most of the stones....rubies and sapphires....were set with diamonds and while i thought the color stones were gorgeous, the rings were too ornate for my style and taste. i also hesitate to think what they cost.

also for pleasure was a pink diamond: can you say $8,000,000?! yes, $8MK! the woman looking at it said she''d have to sell her house to buy it!

it was, however, an educational experience for me. fine stones do indeed command fine prices. the difference between these two star sapphire cabs and what i have seen elsewhere was very very evident.

Wow Movie Zombie, You saw some great stones. Did you see any Pads? Wish DH and I could have gone today too.

Glad you had a great time.

Oh that sounds like fun! The Bonhams auction house is about two miles from my house and a few times I''ve gone to the antique jewelry previews just for the eye candy.
