Colored gem beauties (lab-created)

:cry2::cry2::cry2:

I'm so sad. I think the pad sapphire was damaged in transit. One of the corners has a nick on the underside. It's hard to see without a loupe, but I can feel it with my finger.

Otherwise, it's a beautiful stone. But I'm conflicted whether to keep it.

Indoor, indirect natural light

Outside, in direct (albeit very gloomy) light. It shows more peach undertone IRL.

Now the nick in the corner :cry2:

Oh no! :cry2: You should reach out to Gene and bring it up with him. Perhaps he could cut you a new one as an exchange. That way, you still get a pretty pad. The color is gorgeous btw.

OMG, I'm a silly goose, lol.

I emailed Gene, who very kindly asked me to make sure it wasn't glue residue left on the stone.

So I cleaned it with hot water and some Dawn. Yep, it was glue.:oops::oops:

Sorry for the false alarm, lol.

I once thought I had chipped a huge chunk off of my ER and had a panic attack before i realized it was gluey residue from taking the trash out. Happens!

Yay for happy endings! Any ideas on how you’d like to set it?

Ps. It's amazing how much color changes once stones are cut. Here is a pic of the rough they sent IMG-20190326-WA0006.jpg IMG-20190326-WA0004.jpg

And here's 114 in different lighting (looks so different from the chart)

Sorry I am confused. Are they synthetic sapphires or synthetic spinels?

Ok, so mcgem is really nice, and are cutting me one stone at a time so I can see which color is closest. 6mm rounds is what they are cutting for me to test color, bc each is only $40. They started with 114. IMG-20190330-WA0002.jpg IMG-20190330-WA0004.jpg

I actually think this is the right color, especially when I consider that @msop04 had a bigger stone so it will look slightly darker.

I'm considering having them cut 113 too so I can compare in pics directly. And then decide if I want them to cut more, etc.

Can anyone who is good at colors speak to this one vs msop's stone?

Looks correct, and beautiful!

Looks good to me!

Something in rose gold, that's as far as I got, lol.

That would look awesome.
Personally, I think planning is all part of the fun. Since settings cost so much more than most lab gems, it usually takes me a while to build up the funds. Dreaming of settings is what gets me through. :mrgreen2:

I'm falling down a glorious rabbit hole of lab colored stones while searching for the perfect blue. Look at these colors! HTB13JwsKYvpK1RjSZPiq6zmwXXaP.jpg_640x640xz.jpg HTB1NdYVMSzqK1RjSZFLq6An2XXai.jpg_640x640xz.jpg HTB1XbmcOsbpK1RjSZFyq6x_qFXaF.jpg_640x640xz.jpg

@lovedogs wait! They have that super pale blue in spinel.. and a mint green in sapphires???? Want! Putting that on my future want list lmao!

@lovedogs Let me know if I need to throw you a rope to help you out of the rabbit hole! I don't think you're ever getting out, not that that's a bad thing!

And this shows all the colors. One of each, please!! Screenshot_20190331-084548_Alibabacom.jpg
It's interesting that the paraiba YAG is listed under Synthetic Spinel. Wonder why? YAG is synthetic garnet.

I saw those yags...so pretty! I have a syn ruby still awaiting a setting. I was inspired by eva marie saints ring in North by Northwest. Its on left.

Its a deep hole :)
The pale green corundum is pretty cool, I’ve seen it cut some nice stones.
That pale YAG is a new one to me - gotta put that on the wish list. There’s also tsav-like YAG floating around out there.

I’ve also seen #65 corundum turn out a nice purple-reddish.. also on my someday wish list.

Have you gone down the siamite / monosital / nanosital rabbit hole yet? :)
