FlyGirl -- I just love all of your projects. The earrings I can't wait to see what you think of them. I'll have lots of questions about them since I've been casually looking for a pair. To hang colored stone charms, or wear alone. So far the ones I've really liked have been too wide for the charm loops. Looks like yours will be just right.

Cellentani -- WOW that's some color on that gem! Beautiful.

ETA: GREAT thread. I'm going to be getting a Sapphire or two soon. Maybe before the end of the year. Both multicolored. And I'm hoping to add something else to my order.

D&T, I love that pink/purple sapphire! It is absolutely gorgeous.

Jstar- I am so sorry to hear about your tsav!

I did find some inexpensive tsav''s on Mastercutgems. They''re certainly not as beautiful as yours but are only $65 for the bunch. linky

Thanks TL - the spinel supposedly does fluouresce, but I don''t have a UV light, so I''ll have to find one. The color on your rubellite looks beautiful - is it a BK? jAnd how are you going to set it? I''ve got a small rubellite too, and I''m still looking for a setting.
Thank you Cellentani. Did you get the other one he had listed? I was thinking of putting it in my white gold empty LOGR legacy. It''s 7.3mm so it fits.
Uh, my rubellite (BK) is only 5mm - hence the setting dilemma. I usually don''t go for such small stones, but I couldn''t stop thinking about the color! Hmmmm, I don''t remember any 7.3mm (and I''m sure I would!) - that''s a great size, congratulations! How does it compare to your other rubellite you got from him?
It''s not as neon, vivid as my other 1.1 carat rubellite from him, the one you''ve seen in my white gold LOGR split shank halo about a billion times, but it''s a very nice hot pink. Looking forward to seeing what you''re going to do with that little beauty.

ok I''ll spill,
I just acquired this beauty... its a christmas/birthday/mother''s day present. I''ve been drooling over this for sooooo long and have tried to persuade other PSer''s on this beauty, but alas, it was meant for ....ME! since many know how much I

love concave cuts!- its finally time I get one from the Master himself.

I won''t get this until February though... maybe sooner (if my bonus comes through) but no rush as we have to save up for the Ritani inspired halo setting as well and Wink has this locked up for me until I figure it all out

- THANK YOU WINK!

Thank you, SH. I was thinking that once I get these charms and dangles and earrings all together, I''ll have a photo shoot for you guys. Probably early in the new year.

Thanks, MTG! They''re the below stones and I was thinking that if there isn''t too much extinction (static photo...), then I''d set them (eventually) in silver lotus earrings. I loved the color and the price was right!

Those look quite good for blue spinels...but you brought up a good point about the extinction. They look like the half and half extinction that I sometimes see when the wrong design is chosen for the stone. Is the culet pointed or a keel? I suspect a pointed culet. I''m sorry to say the half and half effect does not go away. I have one such stone purchased years ago that I''ve never set because it bugged me to no end. I thought this effect would go away and was common in gemstones but found out years later that it is not acceptable.

Sooo... shocking, I know, but Chrono is right. I got the spinels and the bright blue is beautiful, but I can only see the blue in half of the oval. In office lighting, they''re a pretty purple-blue. I''m thinking about whether to keep them. I feel bad sending them back, because if I had more gemmy experience, I would have known that the half and half wouldn''t go away and wouldn''t have ordered them. Also, its rainy here and even in this bad light, the blue you can see is great. I think I''ll live with them for a couple days and see.

Thoughts?

Sorry to hear novel. Would love to see photos anyways

I’m so sorry, Novel. It’s not really your fault that you didn’t see it coming. I suggest using the return policy and using that money to get something that you know you’ll love to no end (something with the same blue but without the half and half). Maybe, even asking the vendor for something with the same blue colour?

Thanks, you guys. MTG, I don''t know that I''ll get pics out, as I had them shipped to my office, but really, they''d look almost exactly like the online pics.

Chrono, thanks. I think that is probably what I''ll do and I''ll talk to the vendor to see if he has anything similar. I know we learn by experience, but I have an overactive guilt complex. Especially when the package includes yummy free grape spinel!

Novel -- I''m sorry that the Spinel pair didn''t work out for you. It''s just so hard to find a matched pair that I was hoping that the picture was off. Ah well do ask about another set of stones, many vendors own so much more than they have posted.

I actually don''t have any more projects for the year.

And nothing for christmas

I''m in save mode for now because I want something really big next year. *though all bets are off if I see it this year and just have to have it

Well, probably my two last colored gem purchases of the year, a violet blue spinel in a decent native cut (1.5 carats) and a very pretty intense green tsavorite slightly above 2 carats in an oval Portuguese cut. The tsavorite has some inclusions, but I''m not complaining for what I paid. The stone is eye clean and more vivid in color than this photo, and extremely sparkley. Both are still in their little baggies from the dealer, and it''s an overcast day.

Wohoo! TL finally finds and purchases a tsavorite that she likes.

But seriously, they both look really nice. A lot of dispersion off the spinel and the tsav looks to be lively with that style of cut.

Thanks Chrono,
I liked the tsavorite becasue the price was great. I have a hard time paying tsavorite prices, that''s just me though.

I''ve been looking for a more pure violet/blue without any pink in it for some time. It''s difficult to find ones without a lot of grey and even though this does have some grey, it has more saturation than some of the violet spinels I have. I like it a lot. The dispersion is amazing, even though it''s a native cut. Got to go get some outdoor shots in the sun.

One more pic for you Chrono! I can''t get the saturtation of blue to come out in these photos, but it does have blue in it. This was taken in very dim diffused light in my den.

TL, that spinel is wonderful!

Very pretty TL!

TL -Nice looking tsavorite and spinel, congratulations. Is that the Tsav whose vendor''s pic you posted recently?

TL,
Are you able to take a picture of the stones without the case cover on? I know I''m really challenging your balancing skills but I''d love to see it unobstructed.

Thanks MTG, MT and Klewis.

Chrono,
I''ll get more pics and start a new thread on them.

Chrono,
Here''s a horrid shot of the stones on my hand. The tsavorite looks icky here, but it''s nicer in person. I have a hard time capturing green properly with my camera.

In diffused indoor light.

WOW!!!

stunning gems! I esp. love the Tsav! (''cos I like green) Congrats gurl!

....As for my xmas list, I''m excited for my recut peridot by Bob Kast. He''s shipping it to me next week. Hopefully, I''ll receive it b4 Xmas *fingers crossed*

The spinel is incredibly sparkly and is the tsavorite a medium dark green? Looks like a very rich green too.

Chrono,
I opened up a new thread on these stones, but the tsavorite doesn't look like the above hand shot. It's brighter and more color saturated with a touch of blue. I was so disappointed at these photos.
14.gif
The spinel looks nice IMO in these, but the tsavorite died.

Thanks Blithsome!! Looking forward to pics of your new BK cut peridot!

I found the thread, TL. Thanks.

Well, I thought I was done for the year, and then my parents'' Christmas present to me is going to be two stones . . .

. . . I only realized yesterday that my Christmas gems were . . . red. and green.

Sigh. How''s that for holiday color coordination?

I want a ~1 carat Montana Sapphire for a pendant.
