Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what the cost of a round 1ct ruby of good to excellent quality would cost?

Thanks.
LM

Yes, all of us can, some of us will. All will be right, the rest will be wrong. Except for the issue of whether it is heat treated or glass filled and then deduct from 40% to 60%. If it is confirmed to be Burma in Origin, add some to value. If it is round, add a little over those that are roundish. Subtle shades of overtone colors will either add or subtract from price. Now depending on whether the owner is greedy or not, combined with how well connected the buyer is, combined with how many times the stone has changed hands, times the number of toes longer than your big toe.
Sorry for the smartass answer, it is late on Sunday, and there is so much to go into before an answer can be given. To be serious, from $300 to $6000 can all be clssified as good to great depending on who is looking and what they are compared to. Find someone you trust, find a good appraiser who does not sell stones, and look at enough to decide what you think is nice. Beauty wins over rare most of the time.

Prices are all over the map. Origin, treatment, color, affect prices greatly.

But there is an excellent site to browse through for prices on fine colored gems. I have bought from them and they were great to deal with. You will find that Cherrypicked is just what there name implies - they pick some of the best Colored Stones out there - so prices follow.

Cherrypicked Site

You may notice that many gems on CherryPicked are listed as “sold” with no price! Here is a little secret for you – click “add to cart” and you can see what the gem price was! Also the "compare" feature is great – since they have their own ranking system (very good by the way) and you can see how different rankings affect price. You can call 877-384-8023 and ask for Richard Orbach and he can give you some help and information.

Also - the "Master" Richard Hughes has something so say about Ruby Prices

You may also want to look at this site (I have not bought from them)

Awesome Gems

You will notice that awesomegems use special notations for the color. They are using the GIA system. You can find more about the GIA system at this link
