In my seemingly never ending diamond search... i think its come down to these two.
I thought that my quest was over when i bought my first diamond from an online vendor (diamond #1 below), but things have gotten complicated now that the local diamond broker that i was dealing with has gotten in a beautiful diamond as well.

I could really use the help and opinions from here in making my (hopefully) final decision so that i can get working on the proposal. (And i promise to post pics of the ring when its finally done too)

These are round/brilliant diamonds.

Diamond 1 - (online vendor)
HRD certificate,
Carat Weight - 0.79 ct
Clarity - VS2
Colour - G
Flouresence - nil
Measurements - 5.93 mm x 6.00 mm x 3.64 mm
Proportions - very good (top HRD rating)
Girdle - medium 3% faceted
Culet - pointed
Table width - 58%
Crown Height - 15.0%
Pavillion depth - 43.0%
Finish Grade: Very Good (top HRD rating)
Comments: Hearts & Arrows
Price ~ $2900USD

Because the HRD doesn't give all the info, i had to do a few quick calculations to come up with the rest.
Total depth = 5.93+6.0)/2 = 5.965, 3.64/5.965*100 = 61.02
I approx. Crown Angle to be about 35.5-35.4 using some forumlas and tables i found on this site.
I approx. Pavillion Angle to be about 40.5-40.6 using the same formulas.

HCA score is 2.1 VG/EX/VG/VG using the HRD report (with crown & pav %'s which are considered less accurate)
If i use my approx angles, the HCA score drops to about 1 EX/EX/EX/VG (which i'll have to confirm with a proper Sarin report)

Diamond 2 - (local)
GemScan certificate & Sarin report
Carat Weight - 0.70 ct (0.708 Sarin)
Clarity - VS2
Cut - Ideal
Polish/Symmetry - Excellent
Colour - F
Measurements - 5.80 mm x 5.74 mm x 3.48 mm
Total Depth - 60.8%
Table - 56.9%
Crown Angle - 34.1 (Range 33.8-34.4)
Crown Height - 14.7%
Pavillion Angle - 40.9 (Range 40.6-41.2)
Pavillion Depth - 43%
Culet - 0.9
Girdle - 1.2%-1.6%, avg 1.4% thin-medium
Price ~ $2700

The Sarin scores are all 0 for AGS specs, so i can assume this diamond is a AGS(0).
This diamond gets a HCA score of 1.2 EX/EX/EX/VG using the Sarin report numbers.

If you were in my situation, which diamond would you pick?
Would I notice a size difference if I were to drop from the .79ct to the .70ct? The $200 price difference is of no concern to me, I just want to get the best diamond that I can.

Thanks.
Also. I'd like to say I'm glad I came across this site, Its been a real help with all my research.

Hard!

.79ct is hard to get.
the other cut looks better

Hmm, agree with Gary.

Spread wise, you''re looking at about 5.96 vs. 5.77. You''d definitely get a bit more coverage with the first.

Can you have the first sent to you? so you could compare the two in person?? That would be best.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Is the first one a non-ideal cut?
I know the specs are a little tighter on the second diamond, but is the first one should stil be considered an ideal as well correct?

I have actually already bought and paid for the first diamond. Since I am in Canada, I''m having it shipped to a Border city and picking it up there - Its a bit more work.

The second diamond is here locally and i have seen it in person.

For the $200 extra i like the bigger size, and the hearts/arrows its nice to have - but not essential. The difference in the G to F colour shouldn''t make a big difference correct?

Keep the responses coming. Thanks again!

i agree with everyone else, rock no. 2 is the better stone....also, as far as color goes, between and F & G, there shouldn''t be much difference, so you''re OK on that score

....but then again I''m a D freak anyway....
