Covid? Again.

Follow up call to Dr again today. My face and cheeks hurt so bad I could almost cry. Not a Covid rebound, but a secondary sinus infection. Antibiotics on the way. She said secondary infections are quite common.

I'm so sorry, but hopefully the antibiotics I assume she prescribed will give you some relief quickly.

Sinus infections are terrible. I find some relief with a hot pack or, in a pinch, a hot washcloth pressed against the achy sinus.

Feel better soon, @MMtwo

Thanks, me too, I feel awful and fever is back.

Thank you! That sounds good! I would honestly do anything right now to make it feel better. Neti pot is not helping.

after negative day 5...back to coughing and another positive test. Rebound Covid.

That stinks, I never had the fever or rebound

@MMtwo, Sinus infections are miserable. I’m sorry you are still feeling so sick.

@AprilBaby, Did you still feel exhausted after testing negative with this strain of Covid?

Your advice was helpful. I fell asleep with a wrapped ice pack on my face last night. It cut through the pain. Still a fever today and sleeping, but the face pain has eased.

I’m still exhausted and it’s been several weeks.

Finally a negative test this morning - Day 15. The rebound was annoying, uncomfortable, but I would take Paxlovid again in an instant to stay out of the hospital. In recap (for anyone else with rebound):
Test day 1 positive started Paxlovid.
Day 6 negative
Day 8-14 positive rebound (plus sinus infection) miserable, but not as sick as day 1
Day 15 negative

On a do-over, I would wait until late day 2 to start Paxlovid to reduce the chance of a rebound infection.

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better and testing negative. Just curious, does delaying the start of Paxlovid actually reduce the risk of a rebound? That's something I'd never heard, but if that is the case, it is good to know.

From what Google info I have found. It appears that some people who start very quickly may have more rebound than those that wait until the 2nd day.

I would really prefer to do it only once, next time :D.

See below at minute 4

Yes, there’s data suggesting starting later reduces rebound.

Here’s a link to a paper explaining what rebound is and showing that time the medication was started is a factor in rebound.

Thanks for this! Also, I can confirm, I started the first day of symptoms. D'oh!

I hope you feel better soon
