Hi, is this a crack?

It’s difficult to tell, but it does appear to potentially be a surface-reaching fracture.

Thanks for commenting.

The line seems to go through both the host rock and the opal, and does not reflect light.

I just don’t know the differences between crack vs color lines vs crazing.

Obviously color lines are just coloration, but crazing and cracks are pretty similar. Essentially crazing is lots of fine or small, somewhat shallow cracks along the surface of the stone. A crack is… well it’s a crack in the stone.

shame if its a crack as its a very pretty piece
im no opal expert but if it was mine id be terrified of knocking it aganist something and it splitting off into two parts
