Cracked rib & torn muscle misery :(

Missy, This is the one thing the ophthalmologist told me not do do, along with rubbing 14kt gold on it. lol

Curious. That he would specifically say don’t do that. Did he say why? I’ve had much success with my patients with resistant styes. As for the rubbing 14k gold on it I’ve never heard that one lol. But the potato can work well.

ETA just saw your reply to Tonks. Of course don’t make it too hot. That’s something to be aware of and be careful. If done properly it works quite well.

He said he had a patient apparently who heated it too much and burned her eye and I guess he is leery suggesting it to patients. He did recommend a Bruder mask which I have and have used, but I have to wait 24hrs for it to dry after washing. I got the sty on the outside lower lid of my left eye when I had covid in late Sept. and then it turned up on inner lower lid and was pretty bad. My regular doctor prescribed an erythromycin gel which did not help. Fast forward to 2 days before TG and my right eye experienced a huge burst of floaters and went to ophthalmologist (now being monitored to make sure no retinal detachment) and he prescribed a different gel that shrunk it a lot but not gone (did not want to lance or burn for fear of scar tissue forming). At this point it is tiny but still there, so he gave me Maxitrol this time to use for 2 weeks and said warm compresses a least 4 to 6 times a day. (today is day 6 of using Maxitrol)

I understand. I’ve only had success with that method and only suggested it to you because you’ve been struggling with it for so long.

But as with everything we each must decide what’s best for us and I am sending you bucketloads of healing vibes so you can have resolution and relief

I’ll add almost anything can have adverse consequences if done wrong

Healing thoughts, so sorry you have to endure this during the holiday season :(2

Hate that you’re going through this. I hope you feel better soon, Ally!

I’m so sorry @Ally T. I hope this heals as quickly as possible for you. It sounds incredibly painful. Is there anything you can take for the pain?

Ally this sounds so completely wretched. I’m so sorry!! I hope you find a more vertical sleep aid that works, lack of sleep multiplies absolutely everything :(sad

I’ve not experienced anything quite like this before but I’ve had a few dalliances with pneumonia and I so sympathize with “breathing deeply hurts”. Is there any possibility of stronger pain medication, surely something could be done to reduce that ;(

So many people are unwell this end of year. I’m vaguely hopeful we’re all getting our bad karma out for a better and healthier 2023…

Thank you all. Truly. Appreciate it.

My GP called today as they have received the report from the hospital trip. They have arranged for me to collect some super strength pain meds first thing on Friday morning, as they know I am going away for Christmas on Friday afternoon & appreciate i must still be in horrible pain. Cannot complain at that!

Mr T & the girls have been brilliant. BRILLIANT. I feel very well looked after & I am ready to heave myself up into the car tomorrow & be driven 3 hours South for the festivities.

ETA. Mr T brought home a little pillow thing that goes between your knees in bed, so looking forward to giving it a whirl later!

Success you on your way to health.

Levity aside: jokes in poor taste don't go down well with any liquid; sparkling or otherwise. Sometimes neither does anecdotal advice.

I know you will find secure, professional, medical advice for your medical concerns. Take care.

ouch!
I have messed up my ribs a few times, they never really check to see what actually happened just said nothing to do about it, just be careful.
What helped is sleeping at an angle, I created a ramp with blankets and towels so I was laying at an upward slant, not sitting up or laying down but between and it helped.

As someone who has had surgery on their ribs I Understand the excruciating pain. I second trying to sleep in either a reclining chair or propped up on lots of pillows.

I’m so glad you have gotten better meds. And yay to pillows! I love all the pillows! Pretty sure there is yet another body pillow under the tree for me. My husband gave up that fight a while back. Bolster every part of your body that you can.

Best wishes for speedy healing.

You can certainly crack a rib from coughing, I've seen it. A rib can "go out of place" as well. I've seen our physical therapists treat this with good results.
