Oh I''ve really been cranky lately! One, it''s been never ending snow storms here. We''ve had over 71" this season and it isn''t over yet. More snow coming tomorrow and two I spent the last week in the hospital and in a few weeks will be going back again. The only good right now is that we leave for Florida on Friday for 8 days and OMG am I looking forward to some warm weather and green grass, flowers and the beach!!!!!

Michelle, I hope everything is ok with you. (not asking you to divulge, just wanted to say that)

Thanks Ellen, I really appreciate that! It''s ok to talk about but I don''t mean to jack the thread. I had a TIA or "mini-stroke" even though I have absolutely zero of the risk factors. They did every test under the sun I thought and couldn''t come up with a reason why this would happen. The only thing my Dr. could come up with was some kind of weird migraine. He was ready to discharge me but thought that he would have a neurologist take a look before I went home. He was pretty sure she would agree with his diagnosis. She didn''t agree and ordered another test that showed I have a hole in my heart[PFO] that I''ve had since birth. This test is apparently the only way to tell you have it. It is something that everyone has as a baby but it is supposed to close around birth. It doesn''t close in 20% of the population but most people never have a problem with it and never know they have it. I''m one of the lucky <1% that has a problem and the only way you know you have a problem is to have a stroke or TIA. In a few weeks I will have a procedure done that will put a patch over the hole and then I should be fine, no more problems. Until then I am on drugs to stop my blood from clotting so that I have no more strokes. Fun, eh? No wonder I''m cranky, LOL! The good news is that after all these tests I know I am perfectly healthy in all areas, well except for a stinking hole in my heart and since migraines have a correlation with these holes, once mine is fixed I may never have another migraine. Now that IS good news and something to look forward to.

Thanks for your apology Maisie, it''s not necessary, though thoughtful. As others have said, we are a forum of women and most of the time it''s pretty harmonious. That is why I try to be more like a duck with water off it''s back...what''s the point of holding a grudge or worrying about what someone said a week ago. I don''t even stay irritated at Greg for more than 10 minutes, I''m like what we had an argument? Awww...let''s watch a movie.

DF....well I haven''t been able to work out at all in the last 2-3 weeks due to my flu and then got a resulting weird body arthritis thing thanks to my then-overactive immune system (that is finally subsiding thank goodness)...so I just went back to the gym last nite and it felt so good but I have lost some muscle for sure and have to get back into it slowly. I think I gained 2 lbs. But typically I work out a fair amount, 5 days a week and watch what I eat for the most part. Mostly I do the workout/watching to be healthy overall, but I also do it so that I *can* indulge when I want to on sweets...which is my absolute weakness! I''d much rather eat ice cream for dinner than anything nutritious hehee.

One of the reasons I don''t know if I could move to a colder climate is that I am so used to having sun here in the winter on a daily basis. I don''t mind a 3-4 straight days of rain but then I need sun. I have gotten better about that since getting older, I think life distracts me more and I worry less about what''s happening outside, but I couldn''t live in a cold/dreary/gray climate for long stretches at all...I would def not be as chipper. But colder and still sunny 1/2 time would be okay!!! DF is it like that in PA??

I''m definitely ready for spring. We got another 12" of snow yesterday and are forecasted for another 8" today. I''m officially tired of snow shoveling, bulky winter coats & feeling cold all the time. I can''t remember a year with this much consistent snow. It''s also continually gloomy because of the Lake Michigan generated clouds. The flu has hit my area big time and everyone is grumpy.

Last weekend I changed the pictures & accesories in my house from the cozy winter scene ones to some beachy pictures & teal throw pillows. A friend of mine sent me flowers today. I started playing Jimmy Buffet at work. Definitely looking forward to warmer weather even though I know it is at least 2 months away...at this point I''d settle for some sun & no snow.

What I''ve grown tired of:
brown, grey, clouds, sleet, dead, zero humidity, brown, grey, frozen lake, ice, below zero wind chill, dirty snow, salt on my shiney new black truck, brown, grey, dead fields, overcast, slick sidewalks, hat gloves mittens and still cold, dark early, scraping my windshield, brown, grey, chapped lips...

What I look forward to:
sunshine, rainbows, flowers, no coat, no ice, blue skies, green grass, birds chirping, lake waves, golf, exercising outside, walking my dog, sunglasses, humidity, clean truck, sprouting fields, my bright spring trenchcoat, lipstick, perfume change, showing my legs and arms, peeptoe shoes, wearing my hair up, tanned cheeks, fresh air, I could go on and on......

lol starset re: showing arms and legs...isn''t it funny...we spend so much time bundled up when i am putting lotion on or something after the shower i feel like my skin looks so foreign!! and pale, well really for me i mostly turn yellow in the winter hehe.

Storm, that asscher is so cool!

I''m always cranky. And I''m definitely looking forward to spring. Wearing sundresses and sandals. Warm breezes. Walks in the park. NYC street fairs. BBQs on our deck.

hmmm...I''ve definitely been crabby, but I usually try to stay off PS and especially stay off any threads where I''d be tempted to say something I might later regret when I feel that way. I know exactly why I''ve been crabby though - I''ve been working my tail off every day and a lot of nights trying to get through the research for my PhD. Plus DH and I have cut back a lot on "fun" spending (so no fun eating out, weekends away, etc...) to build up our emergency savings as a hedge against the recession. Also, I haven''t been warm in weeks it feels like, and we don''t even live in a particular cold place (Northern California)!

I wonder if the recession has something to do with crankiness as well? I know it has certainly increased the level of tension and crabbiness in our house, and I would imagine its probably placing additional stress on many others as well.

Mara, Philly is in a valley, meteorologically speaking, so it does get some mild stuff even during the winter. We had many days this winter that were cold and dreary, but also had sunny and 60 or 65 degree days too. Seems like just when you cannot take it, the cold moves out. You can also have have a nice October, November and December...I have lived here ten years and we have had more times where snow did not come til January. We are likely to get about half typical snow fall amounts this year. I am a So. Cal. girl and have really found it not too unbearable. And truthfully, it is not Vermont or upstate NY or Canada or somewhere where 80 inches of snow can fall in a winter and days do not get out of the teens. But I cannot say from December to March the risk of snow/cold/damp is not there.

I think I've been cheerful. Oddly enough. I'm sure it won't last. LOL. It doesn't tend to. But this winter hasn't affected me badly. I was feeling down the first couple of weeks of January, admittedly. But that's just because January always feels like a neverending Monday for me. And I hate my boss. I still hate my boss, mind you. But she's going on vacation for two weeks starting tomorrow, so I'm REALLY happy about that. REALLY REALLY happy. TRULY THRILLED. hatemyboss.

Michelle, I hope you are feeling better, and I'm sorry to hear about your medical issues. ((HUGS))

I can''t wait to sit by the pool.

I can''t wait to finally turn 21 (19 days!)

I can''t wait to drive with the windows down.

I can''t wait to watch my garden grow.

I can''t wait to wear a denim skirt and flip flops.

Catmom, I hope after the procedure all will be well! Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Today is a STUNNING day here in SoCal. I am itching to go out and enjoy it. 76 degrees currently and it going to hit 78 as a high. Sometimes we don''t get warm temps like this near the beach even in the summer!!

You''re welcome.

Gosh, I guess I''d be cranky too.

I''m just glad you found out without any serious repercussions!

I hope all goes well for you, and definitely enjoy that vaca! Have a Pina Colada for me.

I am so sick of this weather. I''m crabby everyday! I just want the sun and some NORMAL temps!

Thanks, TG, Gypsy and Ellen. I really appreciate your well wishes.

Michelle, I am glad they caught it! May I ask what your symptoms were? That is scary. I had a friend who was having a terrible headache, the doc told her it was an ocular migraine and sent her home. She collapsed a day later with a slow bleeding aneurysm. She survived and is doing well, she was young and healthy and LUCKY she was in a crowded place when she went down, so someone immediately called 911 and she was airlifted and a CAT scan was done ASAP. You just never know with your health, it is not something to ever take for granted.

My mom, 15 years ago, had a TIA (transient ischemic attack I think) and was fine, no major fall out, and she was 66 at the time. I am sure you will be happy to have it behind you!!! Sending out well wishes to you.

Are you on coumadin (warfarin) or a newer anticoagulent? You might take a low dose (baby aspirin?) daily after, I think my mom did for a while.

Thanks DF...yeah it doesn''t sound too bad out there actually hehe. It was 70 here today and sunny though...so nice.

cranky? nah. but i am looking forward to warmer weather and more sun! i wore a sleeveless to work for the first time this season. the sun was shining and the temp was warm (enough).

i live in northern ca, so winter is not bad, but i would love it if the sun came out more often.

Thanks Diamondfan, for the well wishes! It was very scarey at the time. I knew I was having a stroke, I just couldn''t get any words out. I stood up from sitting and went to brush back my hair with my left hand and I couldn''t control my hand. In my mind I knew what I wanted it to do but it was like a floppy fish and I kept hitting my chin with it. While that was going on I was thinking clearly to myself.....HOLY S#%t, I''m having a stroke! After 2-3 minutes I got the use of my hand back and I could speak again but then the left half of my face went numb and tingly and that lasted for about an hour. The bad thing was my husband was in Japan at the time but at least my daughter was home to get me to the hospital. I had a really bad headache for about 2 days after. They did a cat scan, contrast MRI, EEG, Echocardiogram, sonagram of the carotids and others I can''t remember and found nothing. It wasn''t until they did the TEE that they found it. Apparently that is the only test that will find these things. I just found out that I was an almost 2 month preemie so I''m sure that is why the hole never closed. I am fine right now. They have me on 10mgs of Coumadin a day plus baby aspirin until I can have the procedure. Once I have the hole closed I can come off the coumadin but will probably stay on the aspirin. The good news out of all of this is that I now know that outside of the hole, there is absolutely nothing wrong with me, no aneurysm, tumors, clogged arteries or even thickened arteries, etc., and my migraines may be totally gone! The bad news is the timing of the procedure. My sister used to be a hopital administrator and now travels around to various hopitals making sure thier procedures are correct and in place to meet standards. She is having a fit over this telling me it is not a good time to have this done because of the Heparin problems going on right now. They have had at least 5 people in the past 3 weeks die from reactions to IV pushed heparin and it''s not the stuff on the recalled list. I''m going to have to have a long discussion with my cardiologist when I get back from FL!

Ain''t gonna lie, it is not So. Cal. but really, if I could adapt, it is doable. And the seasons are awesome.

OOhh.. Michelle, with all your knowledge I am sure it will be fine.

I would love to be migraine free, not that way but still...I have had a three day killer one and I am not happy.

How scary to have those symptoms. I once had such a severe migraine I had terribly slurred speech and could not move, that is just a bad feeling.

Nice to know, again, not from this episode, that you have a good bill of health otherwise.

My son was 6 weeks early, he is 15 now and a major runner. I did an EEG and an echo on him, all is fine thank god, but I know it can be common. Please relax, take care of yourself, and luckily someone was with you at the time. God bless you and I will hope for a smooth recovery!
