Hey everyone,
I know I already had a thread or two going about trying to find an AVR and get some feedback on some settings for my men’s wedding band, but I’m making this to let everyone know / show I finally made a decision!
For the stone:
When I was researching over different cuts and stones for my fiancée’s ER I ended up stumbling across OEC’s, OMC’s, and the newer AVR’s; I instantly fell in love with these older styled cuts. Being that my fiancée insisted on a RB for her ring, I got her a H&A stone, but insisted I will find a way to get one of these cuts in my life somehow!! Haha
So over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been working with Lynda over at GOG trying to find a nice AVR melee size (.25-.33) for the main stone for my wedding band. I found a nice J color .28 that looked like a good fit but unfortunately their online stock wasn’t up to date, so it was already sold. After going back and forth with getting pictures and asking questions I ended up on a .27 F VS2 eye clean gem. I was originally considering stones with a middle of the road color but with their current stock this seemed like the perfect choice. Upon completion of the order and receipt of the package I could have not been more impressed by the way GOG handled everything! The stone came in a nice ring box with a loose stone ring holder, in addition to a packet including the appraisal and a free little loupe to inspect the stone. While these might be little add-ons to some people, it was just something a little extra I wasn’t inspecting. Below is the link to their site to see the stone. The camera on my phone has a hard time focusing on the diamond close enough to to get some decent pictures, but I’ll try tonight again before I mail it out to be set.

The setting:
While trying to figure out what setting would suit my personality, tastes, and choice to use a diamond in my band (and an AVR at that) I stumbled across the romanovrussia.com site which inspired me to look for older styled settings. I love antique and vintage items, which is what led me to the diamond choice in the first place, so I knew that going with an older style setting would be a good fit. While thumbing through different types of settings I found a couple gypsy ring variations and other men’s solitaire settings, but nothing struck my fancy enough/ couldn't get the SO’s approval haha (everything looked too much like a woman’s ER to her). Then I came across the perfect ring (I would have bought this ring itself if it wasn't already sold).

The ring is going to be made by Yoni at “Eternity by Yoni”, along with my fiancée’s wedding band to match her ER I had him make earlier this year. While the original ring used 2 - .30 carats and a larger spinel, I knew it had to be adapted to fit with what I was working with – a single .27. After giving it some thought and messing around with Photoshop I came up with a design to change the ring enough still give me the look I wanted and utilize what I have. The ring will follow the same fine side engraving, and detailing on the shank only to have the two sides extend up to the main stone area where the AVR will be set in a octagon shape setting (instead of the spinel). Below is the Photoshop I made to give Yoni a better reference of what I wanted. I will post the CADs once I get them from him. The ring will also be set in unplated 18k white gold to match the fiancée’s WG rings better than a YG ring, which was one request she had.
Sorry for the long post, but I will update later with more pictures of our rings, the CAD’s and the stone.
