Thanks Forte,
Yes this is the almost 3 carat spessartite from Tan. The tsavorite is 2.5 carats, but they look very very identical in size.

If it looks this great under cloudy conditions, I can't wait to see sunlight pictures!

Thanks Chrono,
Sunlight photos!!

Look at those green and orange sparkles on my hand. This ring looks amazing in incandescent light too, but the white balance on my camera goes funky in incandescent light.

Look at that luster

Flipped with the tsavorite pointing down.

That spessartite is an amazing stone, all by itself. Extreme closeup. Sorry about the sweater fuzz.

Incandescent lighting in my kitchen with the diamond I was considering putting between the stones and the same shot, but further away. The stones look much better IRL than these photos since my camera can't handle white balance properly in many incandescent lighting conditions.

I think I still like it better without the diamond, but of course it's up to you. It's definitely not as intrusive as I had pictured mentally. If you keep it without the diamond, I do think it would flow a little better without the little sliver of gold connecting the two parts of the bypass, but it may be less stable that way.

The FCD looks out of place with the other 2 garnets screaming COLOUR! Thanks for the sunny pics which is awesome.

TL, that diamond is very special, but set between the fiery spess, and the glowy tsav, it is just lost. Of course it's up to you, but I don't think putting all three together does any of them justice. Plus, it depletes the impact of the bypass design and makes it look muddled.

Oh that ring is Dynamite!!!!
I love it just the way it is, without the diamond,
but I can understand the temptation! :))

Thanks to all again for all the lovely words. It's definitely a ring I am enjoying A LOT!! I decided no diamond. It really doesn't need it. Thanks for all the advice.

Thanks for the diamond photos! I think the ring is lovely without the diamond, but I actually love the look of a diamond in the middle-albeit, not with the diamond you posted-that stone I would save for another project where it can be the center piece. I am envisioning a very saturated yellow diamond :) One that could hold it's own with the other colors!

What a fun ring though, I have been planning on a pear bypass ring for sometime, but with bezeled pears. Actually, I almost bid on the lavender pear shaped spinel you won to complete the project, but the cut was not quit a match. Can't wait to see that stone set!

I hate to go against the grain, but I like it with the diamond. I think it gives the ring multiple levels, an extra dimension.

But I also like it without the diamond, i think either way works well.

Shhhhhhhhh! about the lavender pink spinel pear!! It's my secret for now. ;)) I'm terrified to even post it on PS. I LOVE THAT STONE THOUGH. I'm picking up the completed ring either today or tomorrow. I agree, the cut on that stone wouldn't suit this bypass project.

When I first bought the spess, I fell in love with it, the color, the cutting, the size was nice, everything. I knew I had to eventually set it, but I already had a spess pear in a halo. Then when I saw the tsavorite, it was an exact match almost. Regardless of the feather, I had to have it, so I bought it. Great price too since it did have a feather. I suspect they were cut by the same cutter. They look so much alike except that the spessartite is a smidge deeper, so I think for anyone considering a bypass, it's important to have similar cuts.

Mum's the word!!! :saint:

I agree, the stones need to be either really well matched or rather opposites to make a bypass ring work well! At the time I purchased one of the pears I am planning on using for the bypass ring, there was a lavender spinel of the same size and cut I should have bought too-but I thought the price on the spinel was way too much(over double what you paid for yours, with only a little increase in size). Silly me, because I have not seen any other cutters have pears with this cut and he was not willing to check his stock to see if he had any others like it already cut-arghhh! Live and Learn I guess! Do you like the placement of your pears?

Yes, I actually requested them to be more vertical than horizontal because of their size. I actually found one ring example on the net of what I wanted. I sent that photo to another vendor that quoted me $1500 to do the work (no diamonds) . I then contacted Daniel M, and their price was so incredibly reasonable, I couldn't say no. Then they sent me the same exact photo that I sent the other vendor in order to get an idea of how I wanted the design. They can read minds too!! :naughty:

ETA: I picked up my completed pear spinel ring. :naughty: It's gorgeous!

I have enjoyed your photographs. The stones are really beautiful. I've got a bright orange pear on the way soon. It will be my first pear ring. I had a pear pendant once, but it was lost. I hope to have a photo to share soon.
