Oh Gwen, I''m so glad you found a solution! I was following your thread and felt really bad about everything you were going through. But see, there''s always silver lining. And now it''s time to get excited and into wedding-mode!

Hahah, don't know about three pairs of shoes...am thinking right now of maybe just one awesome pair of wedding-y flip-flops, assuming such a flavour of footwear exists (ooh, Freke, did I just challenge thee?

). Although 33.3-66.6% of the weddings could be really cold (March/April, and not summer), so maybe two pairs of wedding shoes are needed after all.

A friend from home has been visiting this week, and while we were up in James' 'hood, we stopped by one of the venue options and oh my WORD, the views there were unbelievable! The venue is on a cliff top overlooking a body of water called Robin Hood's Bay and it is just sooo pretty. I'd have given it two thumbs up, but one thumb was in use, helping to take the photo.

Beautiful view Gwen!

I love Robin Hoods Bay. It''s amazing even if we did have to do school tripe there to look at seaweed. Also, whitby round the corner does THE best fish and chips in the world ever at the Magpie.

Stunning view! You are too cute

And I think as many shoe possibilities as possible. Oh yes. SHOES.

Eeek! Lucky you. The view is gorgeous.

Gwen,
I was in a similar position, if you remember. The outlaws even demanded that we change our date. How about an intimate ceremony for you two and a larger wedding when everyone can get together? I have to run and only skimmed your thread, so my apologies if this has already been discussed.

Yes indeed! I have been to Whitby a number of times now, and the first time ever was to eat at the Magpie. Yum yum!

Oooh, blueroses, if you have any suggestions about shoes (I have no dress yet, but whatev

Thanks, audball and mayachel! That view gave me such a feeling of tranquility. Hopefully we''ll be able to have the UK wedding somewhere that gives me that same sort of feeling of calm.

Hello, Harriet my love!

A small, intimate ceremony wouldn''t work for James--when he''s totally honest about what he wants for himself (vs. what he wants to make me happy), he wants a big wedding with everyone he knows and loves there. I think a small wedding or elopement (what I wanted

) would end up making him a bit sad the way that planning a UK-only wedding made me a bit sad, because the people we wanted to be there probably wouldn''t be there. So, the new plan is to do a wedding dress rehearsal in the US (where we say vows and exchange rings but none of it''s legal, just a practice) and, a few days later, fly to the UK to have the legal UK wedding, which now can be located in J''s hometown (where allllll his family is) since the focus would be on his side of the family. My hope is that, having the two close together and with the US one first will allow me to do the UK one and not have this feeling like there''s a ton of people missing--because I''ll have just celebrated with them!

Phew! I'm glad that's all sorted

I'm in a slightly similar situation in that my other half is from the US and I'm from the UK. I did a LOT of immigration homework on getting married in the US vs getting married in the UK. We've decided to get married in the US mainly because my family is smaller than his and (thankfully) my family don't mind travelling over to the US.

I'm still confused over the immigration thing in your earlier posts and it doesn't sound like you've had the right advice. I know a site with excellent advice: www.visajourney.com

All the best

Robin Hood's Bay looks stunning. I've been up to Scotland but never been to North Yorkshire. Looks like a great venue option to me. If possible, would you consider April / May rather than March/April for your wedding day as North Yorkshire is freezing in March
