Designing my 20th Anniversary Ring

I eventually decided I needed a Jeff White sapphire in the center and that I wanted a "companion pendant" to go with my CVB Sapphire ring. I am FINALLY ready to set (most of) them into a pendant! At least 5 different shapes! (I also wound up with enough baby K Quadexes for a five stone ring eventually, but let's not talk about that. Lol)

There is a two week club, but I think we need more of a two year club for things like this. I would love to follow more long term projects. I can't wait to see your ring AND your pendant!

Thanks! I learned through a lot of trial and error over the years that jewellery really needs to be unique for me to love it, and unfortunately for my pocketbook and my sanity, that means that I need to have a hand in designing it and I need to pick all the gems myself.

But it’s been really hard the last 14 months or so just spending all my bling budget on stones and having nothing to wear to show for it lol. I’m really excited for this coming year where my bling budget gets to go towards setting the stones that I bought last year. I’m really looking forward to having a new ring and a new pendant. So excited.

Seems to me there’s quite a few of us who just collect diamonds without Really knowing what we’re gonna do with them! Your project sound really exciting and interesting and unique! I can’t wait to see them.

I wish more people started threads about their long-term projects! I love reading threads like that, which is why I do them for my projects.
 
Settled on this five stone layout. Really helped seeing all the diamonds loose because their shapes and color are so much easier to see. I’m obsessed. :kiss2::kiss2:

This is how white they actually look most of the time.

Final…. Ish? There are a couple very small things I may tweak but it’s close enough that I’m ready to get my stones’ proper dimensions added and see a plastic mold! It’s very different from where we started and I simultaneously love it and feel terrified to do something he hasn’t quite done before. Welcome to custom design! So much fun it will make you want to scream.

Oh I'm so excited! I'm sure it'll be fantastic. Hopefully you feel only love and excitement once you see the mold!
 
Dreamer_D these are SO beautiful. Why woud you get stones that match when you can do THIS???? You'll never tire of looking at it.

I haven’t seen v-tip prongs in a linear three or five stone design before in his catalogue. I’ve seen it in a cluster rings, but the scale and orientation and how it connects to the basket is different.

I’m not trying to be coy! I feel a little bashful about sharing them for some reason. I usually wait until the grand reveal to share.
 
Oh my goodness! I love every single one of your stones and their personalities! It is going to be an amazing piece when it’s all together.

I need to learn some of your eBay skills!

I love them too. My vision isn’t very good anymore so in person I can’t quite make out the faceting unless I take my glasses off, but then I can see it and I love how each is unique. 5mm is just big enough to appreciate old cut faceting I think. I’m going to miss them while they are away!!

I am contemplating getting GIA dossier reports for the three without reports. It’s only $38 per stone for that size and it would be really fun to have. I didn’t get a report for my large transitional when she was being reset and I regret it.
 
Oh no!!! I hope you get the forms sorted and yes I think it would be handy to have certs for all of them.

I know what you mean when you say you miss them haha. Time to wear your wardrobe and play with other things. Then scroll through all the photos you've taken on your phone so you can see them. I also like to flood PS with lots of things to keep me occupied so I don't have time to miss them lol. We're here for you to help take your mind off things haha.

I would get the reports! I didn’t for my side stones and I have been kicking myself a bit about it. I had them loose for so long it would have been so easy. Plus it would just be satisfying to have all 5 reports.

Terrible news about customs! I hope it’s figured out quickly and they can be on their merry way to DK.

You know I get certs on pretty much everything. Scratches the curiosity itch!!
 
Lab reports saying “L I1” :lol-2: I am curious about how they will grade the girdle issues in two of them. And even knowing what kind of inclusions they are will be cool — we were wondering if they are naturals/cavities or chips. The report won’t plot them but it will name the major inclusions.

Maybe. It seems like overkill though! And for three diamonds its an added $67USD which is approximately $12, 143CAD right now :lol-2:

In other news, I am getting a run around at FedEx. I haven't shipped anything in so long I guess I messed up the customs documents and they think I am selling the stones. Fingers crossed my "case owner" calls me back soon to deal with this! I hate when things are held in limbo!
 
I still haven’t been able to get the case manager from FedEx to call me. But David just emailed and said they asked him to sign a form saying that the diamonds aren’t from Russia! I’m really hoping that’s all that they need and that it will be released now. I won’t be able to relax until they arrive safely!

If I ever send any diamonds to the US again, I will know to attach that form in advance! I did say “US made” though. So I don’t know what this deal is.
 
That is very annoying and nerve-racking! Russia!? Hopefully that was all they needed and will be shipped asap. I was terribly anxious when I shipped my stones to him and they were only traveling like six hours away. I’m sorry for your stress but it’ll be worth it in the end when you have a wonderful custom piece!

Sending dust… it’s so cool how we can combine stones and designs and craftsmanship across long distances but it is still hard not to worry and to be patient.

US imposed sanctions on Russian diamonds from being imported into US. Hopefully they are just being thorough in checking it out and the diamonds will be released to him very soon!
 
Apparently, now they need more information. I guess either I or the clerk who was filling in the forms at the office didn’t do something properly and even though I keep calling them for updates and have told them repeatedly to call me, they keep contacting David for the information. Ugh such a colossal mess up.

I think once this is all sorted, and the stones are with DK, and he works his setting magic, you need to fly down there to pick it up and not worry about it crossing the border again. Give yourself a trip to LA! I think that's what I'll do when the time comes.

Oh, that would be nice! I live near to the border so I can also ship it hold for pick up to a FedEx depot and make a day trip down. That’s what I’ve done in the past and it’s pretty low stress cause overnight shipping without crossing the border is pretty reliable. I should’ve done that to ship the diamonds to him! Somehow, I thought this would be faster. o_O
