I''m getting .62 tcw round brilliants, both ideal cut with 61/56, one an f and one a g, both S1, set in platinum martini. $650. Opinions?

Sounds too good to be true...are these earrings certified? And what are the crown and pavilion angles to make sure they really are ideal cut?

I called and you are right. They are not certified. They are "hand-picked." The seller is a certified gemologist, idjewelryonline. I found them on Pricescope''s list of vendors. And the person I worked with is wonderful, best of the best customer service.

But bottom line, they arrive tomorrow and either I will love them or I will return them, which I have 30 days to do. And the seller said he couldn''t repeat this price. He was giving me a rock bottom price because of Pricescope.

Cynics - stand up and be counted!

Jeez.

If something sounds too good to be true it usually is. And for what it's worth, they advertise on this site, it doesn't make them a trusted vendor yet. That's all I'm saying.

Oh I am sorry. Email posting is so complex. The "Jeez" was a comment I was making about myself and perhaps being foolish. I am very appreciative of everyone''s comments and advice. And I was trying to say that one would have to be very optimistic to think my earrings were going to be lovely based strictly one someone''s word with no documentation. Carried away - I got carried away and didn''t ask enough questions. But fortunately, I can return them and be more prudent if I don''t love them. Thank you.

Ahhh got to love how the internet makes things hard to interpret. Thanks for coming back and clarifying.

It does seem quite a bit too good to be true, you bought your ring from GOG right? They have uncertified ideal cut earrings, but in white gold, and a lower color and clarity, and I believe the price is at least twice what ID is selling theirs for. And since GOG''s prices are usually very competitive it makes me wonder how the heck ID is selling "better" diamonds/earrings for considerably less.

But who knows, you might get them and love them! So let''s hope that you do.

Vendors pay to advertise on PS. Some might be a great for a specific price range of items like chains or bands but not for stones.

Hopefully your studs will be nice. It's possible they created a custom order that didn't get bought and they are willing to sell them at a nice price. Might be a nice find!

That price does sound too good to be true, but you can return them for your money back so why not try them out. I can''t wait to see pictures of them and if you keep them.

HI:

I did not interpret your post in any untoward fashiion--don''t fret. At any rate, you understand you have the flexibility of looking/returning these earrings; yanno, you just might like them!

cheers--Sharon

One thing I find fascinating is the range of cost on platinum martini studs. They seem to range from $325 to $550 (looking at various net vendors websites). Now that is a wide range in and of itself in the "total price" of studs.

I only went with platinum because of having sensitive ears. I was afraid of 18K white gold. Afraid my ears would react.

My ID diamond guy said that for a brief while this week, platinum was actually lower than gold.
But to address the cost of the diamonds, if I go thru Pricescope''s diamonds (which are all certified, I believe) and look at .30 f and g, S1, there are no prices that, coupled with a $325 setting, would come to $650.

I am the one that told the salesman I wanted .30 and platinum martinis and wanted to pay $650. What my salesman did not say was, "impossible in a certified diamond." Instead, he said, "I can do that in an ideal cut and I refuse to go lower than a G because of the platinum."

They arrive today. I''ll take photos.

Thank you all so much.

Hi Sherry -- hope the earrings turn out well -- you never know, they may turn out to be lovely! Hopefully you got a great deal!

Just wanted to comment that I was surprised by the vast range for martini stud settings too when I bought a pair a little while back (from james Allen). Turns out that some settings are hand-made, and thus cost a lot more because of the labor. When I was looking, platinum was hovering around $2000 an ounce -- I haven''t looked at setting prices lately, but it''d be interseting to see if the price has come down at all. Though I think the higher prices often reflect labor rather than materials, so the prices may not have dropped by very much.

Okay - here are four posts with photos. They''ve arrived after dark. I''m not an expert at taking photos of diamonds. It is very hard. I''ll try tomorrow in natural lite.

They are very sparkly, though I doubt you guys can tell anything from these photos.

They look sparkly, what do you think of them? Do you like them on?

They look gorgeous in the photos! What do you think of them IRL?

I love them. They really have great sparkle and scintillation. I think I am fortunate that I was able to get lovely earrings in platinum at such a great price. And the customer service (my person was Yekutiel Davidov) is one-on-one. He called me the moment I emailed and has called me at every step of the way with the most gentlemanly courtesy, like I was a buying million dollar diamonds - not $650, which is such a tiny drop in the bucket to a NYC diamond dealer. I have to say I am really impressed. My only complaint is they don''t take fab photos.

These are my first diamond earrings and it is so frustrating. I want to be in two places at once so I can watch them on me. Mmmmm - can''t quite figure that out.

I wasn''t sure what I''d think of .31 on each ear. This is the third time I''ve had my ears pierced. They''ve closed each time before so the newest holes are rather low. I was afraid to go with anything large - nor could I afford it.

.62 tcw is very subtle - very everyday wear. So immediately I am in some "heavy lust" mode and wish they were .50 each so I would be more easily able to see them in the mirror. I''ll have to do some big saving to afford that as who knows what that would cost. At least I.D. Jewelry has 100% trade-up. Sick.

They''ve just arrived and I''m already lusting after more.

I''ll probably only take them off to clean them. And the backs are difficult to take off. Which is probably good.

Question - how on earth do you put earrings like this on without getting your fingers and fingerprints all over the front of the stone? Very frustrating.

Great! So glad they turned out well. I think .3 in each ear is a very nice size -- perfect for everyday wear. The 100% tradeup policy is a great thing though -- you can always save up to make use of that!

I am delighted to hear you love them. I think they are the perfect size. I am not very "skilled" with screw back earrings - my trick is to put them on and take them off leaning my head over the bed - that way if I drop the backs (and I do) they are easy to find. To keep my fingerprints off them I have a small piece of an old t-shirt that I use to hold the stud while I put them in my ear and hold them in place while I put the backs on. Enjoy your new beauties.
