I have been looking at diamonds for a long time now. I think, so I thought, that I found the perfect diamond...until I researched it online.... The diamond is a 1.03ct 6.1x6.13x4.25mm. The ring looks just as "sparkly" next to ideal cuts however I know this one is not cut to ideal. The jeweler explained a lot of the weight is in the girdle. It looks the same as some ideal .88ish diamonds when viewed from the top. The diamond is very affordable to me, would this be a good purchase?? I just want my girlfriend to LOVE it. I need to make a decision this week. Am I too caught up on stats??

Get a diamond that faces up right for it's size. In this case, get a .88 ct stone that's ideal cut. Give us your budget and what you want, we can help.

No, you're not caught up ENOUGH in stats. I'm sorry, but based on the small diameter, it sounds like a terrible diamond if it's a round brilliant.

Your girlfriend might love it, only because you gave it to her. As Andelain said, you're much much much better off getting an ideal cut .88 ct diamond. What is your budget? PriceScopers can help you find a beautiful diamond.

your jeweler is being honest with you... :appl:

Yes, he's being honest but he is not painting a pretty picture. A one carat stone that faces up as a .88 is a no go. Extra weight in the girdle is not a good thing.

Keep looking or let us know what you are looking for if you want help.

You should spend some extra dollars and buy a diamond that would be well worth your money. Spending money on a piece having a lot of weight in the girdle will not be a good decision!

Cut is king. The prior posters have given good advice.

Yes he is. That stone is TERRIBLE.

THAT SAID. I would post your budget and your geographical location and let us help you.
