Wow, that''s horrendous. Reminds me that we all need to count our blessings, enjoy each day and keep the ones we love close to our hearts.

that is sad :{

the video says that 90%of the worlds diamonds are cut in India...maybe they mean that 90% of the diamonds in India are cut for export....Im interested to know why they would use this figure...to many other major cutting centers in the world to claim this high %...

It used to be that 90% of rough passed through Antwerp - don''t know if that is still the case. They still have big cutting centres there and in Israel.

The Indian cutters specialise in the teeny tiny ones, so I would think that they mean 90% for export...

Yes, it''s sad...but who really knows. This woman could have been suicidal any number of reasons...

90% by quantity of all the worlds diamonds are cut and polished in India - around 50-60% by value because they specialized in smaller stones, however the original cottage industry format has evolved to large hi tech factories and the latest technology, so the size / value factors are changing to bigger better goods.

Re rough - De Beers and Alrosa have always worked mainly from London and Moscow. Antwerp has been the main home for Riotinto and BHP rough, and mmuch of the De beers site holder resales - but it could never have been more than 50% for the last few decades.

It took a while to load.

Very sad. But unfortunately this is the lot of many people in many industries because of the greed of the few very smart people who should have known better and the lax regulations that did not kep up with the complex inventions of the greedy few.

Garry ...thanks for the post...I wasnt considering all the promotional lower quality rough and smaller size melee that must be cut en mass in India...still its amazing that the percent is that high.
