Just curious - Has anyone ever gouged themselves with their own diamond/setting?

I have a high-set 6-prong solitaire. Recently while attempting to put on leather gloves, my ring spun around and I actually ended up digging the stone/setting into my little finger and it broke the skin.

My husband insisted that I post this and see if any other Rocky-Talky girls has gouged themselves with their own rock.
I guess girls that wear large stones may find this hazardous at times.

Anyone else out there with a stone-related injury to themselves or others?

This is the #1 reason I selected a setting with a low profile.

My earrings are a different matter. My poor FI seems to get a big scratch on his face every time I hug him. The scratches are pretty minor so I just laugh and laugh.

Gouged my pinky when I had my second setting. OUCH. Also scratched a couple of people on the face. Whoops.

I''ve caught the head of my ring on the edge of the doorway (countertop, whatever) and it caused the edge of my band to bruise and break the skin. I''ve worn rings daily for nearly 40 years, and it''s only happened a few times, so it is quite a rare occurrence.

Do you count eye-strain from staring at the diamond at close range as an injury?

Admittedly, I have cut myself on my diamond. My setting is now one size too big, so it moves around alot. I tried to move it right side up with my index finger and my thumb, but I did something strange instead and grabbed the girdle of the stone. Then the stone cut my index finger like a paper cut. I was pretty shocked. Diamonds are used to cut stones, glass and stuff so I really shouldn''t be surprised.

Nothing major; I have the Solstice setting with the integrated head and it doesn''t sit terribly high.
I think all that I''ve done is caught my ring a few times putting my hands into my pockets and had it hit my finger kind of hard.
Interesting thread to start though...

Ha-ha, I second what Harriet said

I have a Marquise but have been lucky as far as not hurting myself or others with it.
I have, however, hit the bathroom sink with it several times *winces*

While admiring my green diamond (yes it''s certified natural fancy lol) I slipped off my chair, and ate the tweezers... Kinda hurt LOL!

I almost got into a car wreck once...was making a left hand turn and the rainbow of colors and sparkle from my 2.54 round brilliant diamond on the cream colored roof of my car made me look up tooo long and almost ran into the cars in the other lane!

*giggle* +1 on this one!

Oh just think of it as a hardness test.

Your skin is less hard than Moh 10, which is the hardness of diamond.
