Diamond stud earring advice?

My wife would like diamond studs this year for Christmas.

I feel like I found a really good price on Abazias.com

The gradings are low, but does it matter as much with earrings as it does an engagement ring? Any opinions or thoughts? My wife actually asked for cubic zirconium but I wanted to surprise her with real diamonds. I'd hate for them to be really yellow or filled with inclusions though!

Thinking of doing the round cut "high premium" 1.0 cts for $820. Any thoughts??

Is 1 ct considered small or is it about average?

Thanks so much for any help or advice on this purchase.

Kevin

I can't seem to figure out if it is 0.5 tcw or 0.5 per earring.

Also, while color and clarity do not matter as much for earrings, going down to I2 makes me nervous.

Yeah its .5 per earring if you select 1 ct. I think thats how it works anyways.

I wonder if there is a substantial difference from SI2 to I1. I also wonder what source (AGS, GIA, EGL, etc.) is grading the diamonds.

I like the JA pair better just because you know (or can ask and find out) exactly what you're going to get (and I like the slightly higher clarity -- I1 sight unseen scares me).

The question is, is that worth an additional $1k to you?

Exactly....thats the question.

I'm feeling like I should probably go I for color and SI1. I'm thinking I could go a little smaller carat wise, but I don't want to do that. I'm also thinking I could compromise on the color to a J or go to SI2 but don't want to do that either!! I want to make sure its at least an ideal cut, I feel like cut is the most important thing to me.

What would you/could you potentially compromise on? Any thoughts or should I just spring the extra dough??

Also - what are folks thoughts on AGS or GIA? Is there more than one AGS?

Personally, I would be ok with a J Si1 or J SI2 (as long as the inclusions were white and not too obvious from the face-up position). If you think about it, it's pretty hard to see earring pavilions from the side. I agree with you, the cut is the most important thing. I think if you went for something slightly under 0.5cts (not compromising face-up size) you'll get a better deal. 0.5cts is a price cliff!

And if you're 6 inches from my ears, I hope you're not -- er -- focusing on my earrings, if you know what I mean. :cheeky:

The Bluenile stones are a little deep, and actually have the same diameter size as the stones from Brian Gavin. For me personally, I think the diameter difference between the stones in both pairs would be slightly noticeable and I think you can find a better matched pair.

Also, well cut stones are going to sparkle more. I would encourage you to look at Ideal/Excellent cut stones.

What a lovely gift for your wife! I have a 1cttw pair and I almost never take them off.

ETA: I'm not sure what your exact budget is, but this pair is well matched. VS2 clarity is a bit high for earrings, mind you.

both those options from brian gavin are looking good. Do you know if they would do a pricescope discount of 10%?

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but 10%?

I thought the BGD Pricescope discount was 5%?

Ok, B. Gavin sent me these two pairs as good options. any pros out there that can tell me if they're any good or which pair might be a better option? would appreciate any feedback!

Pair #1

Pair #2

And then I'm looking at the Blue Nile pair as well above still as an option which are a little more, not much though a bir more affordable.

I'd really like to still get down a little in price, i wonder how flexible they are.

ha you're probably right. sorry not too good with math.

Personally, I'd spend the extra $$ for the BGD pair because they are better cut than the BN pair. I think you and your wife will be very happy with the BGD earrings. I have H&A ideal cut studs myself, albeit a lower TCW than you are looking for, and when I compare them to earrings of the same weight with lower cut quality, there is a huge difference in performance.

With all of the above said, I don't think the BN earrings are anything to sneeze at. I think you'd probably be happy with those as well.

I would think these 2 would match up very nicely...what did BGD say?

I see you have another post...will look at those stones too....just give a sec.

I would go with the first pair, they are bigger :) I have J studs from BGD about that size (mine are a little smaller) and I love them!

I'm not sure on price, but I suppose you could ask? I know they offer a wire discount

I also like the first pair the best. I have a .46 BGD J and it is a lovely stone.

Yeah, I think you would be good with either BGD pair. Again, I really do think you would be able to see the .10 difference in diameter between the two stones in the BN pair.

If these are over budget, just drop size a tad and look at diameter size to make a match. Then maybe try get table size and angles within a close range.

The lady at BGD is nice plus I think they are a pretty good price. I'm thinking the first pair might be the way to go. Might check around a little more online this afternoon to see what I can find to compare.

Really appreciate the help and advice on here. Don't know what I'd do without Pricescope.

Fantastic choice, I'm researching diamond studs at about that size and spotted that pair, they're a great buy! Congrats!!
