I don't know how to even start. Each time I tell myself that I am looking for a yellow diamond, my head is abuzz with questions.

I bought one from Liebisch on eBay. Just to see how they look like. Came to the conclusion that I would need ten of these on my hand to even see them. But I know that diamonds can be triple haloed, etc.

However - anything less than I ct will be lost.

Is it good to have fluorescence in YD?
Is intense good enough? Or should I opt for vivid? Does cut even make a difference for them?

I always thought that I liked yellow green, but now I think that this warmer colour is nicer. What do people think?

A pair for earrings of wait till a solitaire will pop up at the same price?

(Sorry I am rambling. 20171118_230143.jpg It is because I am not a diamond person, this is why. They look very different in person).

Hmm what do you want? A ring? Earrings? Pendant?

Is there anything you have your mind set on? Anything that you're in love with? What is your budget?

Hehe I am by no means and expert but I hope you don't mind me chiming in! I love yellows they make me squeeeeeee!

A very wise person once said to me "Buy what you like" (lol assuming you can afford it) and I took that advice on when I bought my ring. I loved it and my golly gosh it thrilled me.

My centre stone has fluorescence but I haven't noticed anything about it, that bothers me.

If it's not too much trouble, can you post the vendor photo (just coz you said they are different in person).

Intense should be good enough, but based on experience, get the darker ones for smaller stones. Fancy and Fancy light can be nicely colored in big sizes. Cut makes a difference. Fancy colored diamonds are usually cut in fancy shapes as they can add more color face up (some even add an extra facet to get more color face up (or so I heard). So a fancy intense yellow can just be "fancy yellow" when cut round brilliant. Flourescence.....depends on what color it flouresces. :) i just got a fancy yellow that is high on green that it is more green in some lighting so people would say it's green but more yellow in some. It was graded by IGI as fancy greenish yellow. :) I like it but it is not graded chameleon. The price would have been tremendous had it been yellowish green so being yellow, the price was affordable.

JA has good videos. If you step through the color ratings, you can get a sense of the ramping and undertones -- even if you don't buy from them. Most are not great in cut, but you can find some nice ones.

I've been hoping these find a good home.

YG setting with very white side stones...yum.

It's even more complicated than the standard grading. Stones of the same color grade can vary widely in terms of undertones. When I started looking for my yellow diamond I decided I wanted as little brown in the stone as possible. Sometimes you just have to see it in person.

I did not mean that the color was different. What I meant was the whole effect was very different. When it is on a photo, it is a yellow stone. And IRL, I was looking at the color and then noticed this whole...diamond factor, the dispersion. The brightness. Cool. You know, I am not a diamond girl, so... It is cool to see a colored stone being so dispersive.

I shall take a photo of their picture.

I saw some yellows... came to the conclusion that intense yellow in larger sizes is fine, but simply fancy is slightly less yellow than I like.

The greenish ones are tricky. Some on Liebisch photos are gorgeous, but the ones I saw IRL from other sources produced some snotty impression. I came to the conclusion that warm yellow-orange and brown-pinkish are "my" preferable ones.

Other colors cost too much. Asinine.

Thank you for explaining about fancy shapes. I thought cut does not matter for FCD, but apparently it does!

I like to have a multi FCD ring and have no regrets. The dispersion + colour is simply amazing.

Yellow FCD tends to have blue fluorescence. Generally it is all right but do watch out for those that are too strong and might affect the appearance outdoors to the point where it makes the yellow saturation less intense. Intense is good enough for me. Cut matters to a certain degree. I don't need perfection but I still abide by the basic cutting rules of symmetry, no windowing, overall evenness in performance and such.

Modifiers is personal. I like the pure sunny yellow.

There are actually "cloudy" and "hazy" FCDs that doesn't have the dispersion if you like the muted down effect. I like these diamonds and they are low in price than the dispersive ones.

Here's one in cushion (the biggest one). Note that the specks you see are from the fingerprint and not inclusions. The stone is fairly "clean" apart from the "haze". A hazy lemon yellow is actually nice.

I still like these stones in jewelry, though I'm not really a big fan of the colorless ones but I like FCDs. After all they are very durable for jewelry given that the diamond's hardness is way, way more than corundum (the MOH's scale is actually deceiving). Here's a chart from GIA:

I agree that the greenish ones are tricky. So many ugly greenish yellows out there. In yellow diamonds, you have to look at the stone in person. Many stones of the same color grading can appear poles apart. Also, there are yellows that shift colors dramatically especially the ones with secondary hue so you really have to look in different lighting conditions.

Here are some yellows taken both in natural daylight. One on a cloudy morning and another in direct sunlight. The bigger one is the fancy greenish yellow I was talking about.

image.jpeg image.jpeg

Here's the greenish yellow stone in LED light and in incandescent bulb...doesn't look like the same stone. Sometimes it changes more to green or yellow in natural daylight, depending on the time of the day or weather.

Also many that appear sunny yellow have other modifiers such as this, graded by IGI as Natural Fancy Intense Greenish Orangy Yellow.

I tried to send the yellow stone to GIA but didn't do it coz unless you're in Mainland US, it could be costly. They usually send the FCDs to New York (They don't grade them I think in other labs outside mainland US) and I was told that I have to pay for shipment of USD800 plus lab report fee.

.
I have been looking at yellows for ages & came to find very attractive ones in just about every shade that can possibly be called 'yellow' - from PQRST... to GIA 'Fancy Dark'. Perhaps the best 'surprises' were the 'honney' yellows (like these two WWW & multiplying !? WWW ; - a full 'ant trail' of .1 top vivid versions went away WWW) & the light straw-yellow - because the colour says 'Summer!' to me.

No complaint about the pure hue-ed classics - they are obvious. Vivid Yellow may get unbelievable - a colour that appears dense & alive & worth seeing (@Wink must have the best - or one of a few VY around here > 1ct) ... Of course, many GIA 'Vivid' are not spectacularly different from 'Intense' - except for graders & likeminded.

There was a recent thread about cut'n colour WWW ... there is too much to say !

Random YF: three shades of yellow-orange (Intense ?) @cflutist knows about slightly orange intense yellows ...

There is allot of variation, and I have not yet seen a great display of the (GIA) Light to Dark range anywhere online ...

This is my problem. I have immensely huge hands. 9.5 size fingers. I tried 3-ct stones set in rings - without a halo, they look "modest" on my fingers. 1.5 ct. was amazingly small.

So either I should buy a pair for earrings - does anyone have rings with FYD? - or really look and look till I see what I need. Sadly, on shows, there are almost no intense or vivid. But I understand what people say about seeing them, as the light return and color might be dramatically different.

I dream of a light-colored spinel, pale pink or so, and very transparent, set in a setting with many FCD diamonds of different colors and a matching cut.

This seems eminently feasible.

Digressing, not sure if this 'saffron' color pairing WWW - a large, pastel purple sapphire & deep reddish-orange diamonds of different shades & matching cut - seems like-minded to you - I feel some coincidence !

Noooo...Arkteia...don't go to the darkside! Diamonds are.....:nono::naughty::rolleyes::$$):

I wanted to buy a FCD two years ago, in the autumn of 2015. But I was preoccupied by that jeweler who disappeared holding my ruby and a deposit (and the fact that he still has to return the deposit, btw, shows that the situation was truly concerning). So i missed that beautiful stone and has not been buying much since :(

Barrett- Lol. Diamonds are beautiful. They hold the essence of colored stones in their facets. When the light hits them just right you get a taste of yellow, red, blue, purple, violet and green and they are very durable. But if you want more than an taste and you want a meal- you go to colored stones. There is room for both diamonds and colored stones in any collection. :)

Really pretty. Will you keep this design?

I am looking for a more intense color but boy do I have huge fingers! However, I think I have enough golden pearls, of different shades and shapes, and I bought a machine to hole them, and holed some, so at least I am closer to my plan.

Sooooooo pretty!!!!!!

Are your fingers really that big or are you sensitive about them? I have very plump fingers and it took me a while to make peace with it!

Yes. I wanted to ask people if it is really "antique Victorian" or merely looks like one. (My jeweler needs to look once and he sees it - the old imprecisions that one can not see today, with modern technology, and that I like so much). I also bought a pin which looks more antique, and plan to turn it into a bail for a spinel pendant. Anyhow, I am not a specialist in the age, but I like the settings of the 50-es and 60-es, and it somewhat matches them. I have a gilded Tiffany brooch and the style resembles me of this one.

No, I am not sensitive about the size at all. No one is perfect. (Waist, that is another matter, but not fingers). But I am VERY sensitive about the cost of the stones that could provide minimal coverage for the fingers, LOL! :)

Haha now you've made me all nosey and I want to see a pic of you in a ring!

I feel you on the finger size. I'm a 10.5. :cry2:Sigh.

Alexandre Dumas, who praised women's hands, once said, "to be beautiful, the hands of a woman have to be idle". Not the recipe for the XXI century :)

I just saw your YD ring. Seriously gorgeous, and such a great idea!

That ring provides good finger coverage! It was one of those things where I saw it and knew it was THE yellow diamond ring for me! Prior to that I had been wanting one of DBL's pink lemonade ring for ages!

It is beautiful! Yes, I would convert it to either a ring or pendant, leaving most of it intact.
