DK CAD assistance needed!

haha! Yeah, the decision has been made on the side stones and that email went out early this morning. no backing out now!

Now that the difficult part is out of the way, it is time to address the light leakage (the added color saturation will be bonus) I am really hoping that the cup solves this issue. Going on pure faith that it will help since it was suggested and confirmed by VC & DBL that it should in theory work to some degree as long a it is executed correctly (just not sure how that should be since designers have their own different techniques)

Hoping that I will have the ring by Christmas lol

This is turning into a happy wedding anniversary 10/23, birthday 11/13, and Christmas 12/25 present to myself :lol-2:

This is going to be fantastic. For what it’s worth, your loose diamond looks gorgeous to me. Released from the former setting, one can really appreciate its shape, color and cut. I really love it. I even love the culet, because I think this is an antique/ Old cut Marquise and it’s not a “mistake”. (Have you shared where you got this stone?) This is a beautiful diamond and it will look stunning... I’m looking forward to seeing the results of your efforts!

What is odd is that GIA graded it with no cutlet, when you view the stone you can see there are two very long facets that flash when it is rocked from tip to tip. These long facets are what is giving the cutlet appearance, the two local jewelers I took it to said that it was just vintage cut. It would be nice to try and pinpoint the era this was cut in but so far no luck

@LightBright sorry, I missed this question about the origin. The diamond was inherited by my husband, it belonged to his mother. I believe this was an upgrade from her original 1.25 round brilliant engagement ring, then she upgraded again to a 5 carat round brilliant that my sister in law has.

Sadly her cancer came back and she passed before I met my husband, she divided her collection between her two living sons; the eldest got the larger carat and a few other pieces that were favored and my husband the youngest got the remaining. I wish I had a photo of my SILs gorgeous ring to share as well.

(pssssst. have you peed on the ole stick yet?)

Insane that this isn't considered the big carat one

The reports sticks with the definition of a 'culet' as a facet parallel with the table ... whatever the bottom of the rock looks like. Easier rule to folow.

I am finding out how little I know about marquises with a keel !

A marquise with three facets & a trench ... A Musteiner WWW cut !

.

Threading a very fine line ... might call them lips - always in English, NOT Latin as used for the other lips.

David wants to torture me...he sent another pair to consider... I'm sure it's payback after asking him to hunt down so many options lol

He found a slightly smaller whiter pair that taper a bit more at the ends...

The top pair are the .65 I color and bottom are .62 E/F color...

Now I will spend the next hour contemplating

On shape...I like the stronger taper. You have a small finger and wanted the band to be thinner. I think these will look better. On color...I like the stronger contrast. So, I'm team #2 E/F

Bottoms bottoms! The sharp taper will help with that thinner band you're after. Plus it's more diamond but still reminds me of those first small traps we all fell in love with.

Haha when I saw the email, I was damnit! I need Niels number lol

I think the bottoms work better as well, I just hope my husband isn't too disappointed that they are whiter

Just chiming in to say how much I love your marquise and how fabulous I think this is going to turn out for you. :appl::appl::appl:

Vote for the new sides.

Was there no hope for a pair matching the marq's colour ?

The only options that were closest in color were the L color brilliant cut shields and perfectly color matched O/P brilliant cut traps (which were cut very well) but I REALLY wanted a step cut.

The I colored step cut traps were the closest offered on a warmer color, which I did commit to but then he tossed in the E/F traps. I guess he felt I really wanted a whiter pair but would be happy with the I color

I was nowhere close to a match. Might as well do contrast as good as it gets !

Odd dearth of Light Yellow step cuts - not only side stones, but single stones as well ... It is a kind of tradition that I do not quite get, since the style of cut looks as good in everything.

Omg I just love your diamond. I could stare into The Eye all day

Bottom. The contrast is better and you will have a much more delicate taper to your band

I also prefer the bottom for the color and taper! I think it's a great mix between the smaller traps he first found and the pretty shields!

Now this is FLY so more yellow than yours. But goes to show your husband your idea isn't a fad. This pic is from 2009. Lol

You could just refer to the Es as "the ones David sourced for you". You know like he sourced all of them but...
