Do platinum prongs and settings reflect in the crown of the diamond or must it be inclusions?

My engagement ring is set in platinum prong and sometimes I see dirt near the prong or the gridle and it''s just dirt. Have you cleaned your ring? If not you might want to go to a jewelry store and have them clean your ring and then put it under the microscope to see if the dirt is gone or if its an inclusion.

Thank you lmurden. I have wondered if it is dirt around the prong so I cleaned that off with water and tissue. I still see prongs reflecting in the area around the upper girdle facets and the bezel facets, so I wonder if others see prongs reflecting in their stones. Do any of the jewellers hear notice this?

Also when I turn the stone upside down I think I can see the platinum from the basket reflecting also when I move around the ring. Should I be able to see this?

If it is dirt, water and tissue is not going to do it. Take it to be professionally cleaned, invest in a jewelry cleaner (like Salton) or use this concoction recommended to me by Rich Sherwood which works great!

1 part ammonia free Mr. Clean
3 parts water
1 soft toothbrush

soak your ring for 30 minutes in the solution
use the toothbrush to scrub your ring, make sure you scrub it good!

Thanks fortheloveofdiamonds. No the water and tissue did remove anything from the surface of the one facet I was looking at. I may take it to a jewellers next week and get them to look. It is only a little stone so maybe I am seeing a reflection of an inclusion, if settings cannot reflect within a stone.?

Can the experts confirm if platinum settings do reflect in diamonds? For example in the settings like DVATCHE X-Prong where there is a lot of metal to the side and underneath the stone.

Anyone?

To some extent, the prongs reflect, but if you are looking at a small stone, and the prongs are appropriately sizes, then I am wondering if it''s not an inclusion.

This also happens when holding loose diamonds under a micrscope with metal tweezers. The larger the tweezer, the more reflection.

If you have a loupe, the difference should be clear, but without further magnification, try move the stone around and see if it disappears.
