Do we love or hate this color combo?

Personally, I always "chicken out" and get clear stones to go with a colored stone. It might be more boring or conventional or whatever you'd call it but I also just feel like I'm far less likely to get tired of it that way. Custom made pieces are so expensive that I don't want to make a mistake. And I guess additional colors just don't usually appeal to me that much. I'm not sure if it's because I think additional colored stones compete with the center stone or just because I prefer what I'm most used to seeing. JMHO.

I do too, typically! I'm also one of those people who, when she finds a meal she loves at a restaurant, she'll order it every time. :praise: But we have so many creatively brave souls here... they've really inspired me to get out of my comfort zone. I'm just trying to avoid a Frankenstein's monster ring, ya know? lol

Do you match your jewelry to your clothing? If so, I would look at your wardrobe and try to determine how likely you are to wear the different color pairings with each outfit.

I actually match my clothing to my jewelry! lol

Again, a matter of taste — IMHO a super dark purple spinel with a little metallic grey thrown in would really make the periwinkle pop. If you are looking for a warmer purple, amethyst might look richer than purple sapphire. But maybe you want a harder stone.

The article I read (phew, I need a life) on what colors work best with periwinkle also mentioned deeper purples and blues, if I want to keep more of monochromatic look. So that's definitely a thought! Thank you!!

As a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, I can assure you that blue and yellow (especially maize and blue) is the best color combination there is. AA84A9DC-950D-4931-99A1-5E4E9439E0E1.jpeg

Did you actually graduate in 2000? If so, that means you were there with Tom Brady ('99)... I need details!

I did not. That’s a picture I found online because I never bothered to order a class ring. I graduated in 2004, so I just missed being on campus at the same time as him. I did get to see him play for my beloved Wolverines multiple times though! I go to several games per year with my dad. Our first game together was Michigan - Ohio State back in ‘91 where I got to see Desmond Howard do his famous Heisman pose.

That's awesome! Well we lost him to TB and, think of me what you will, I'm still not over it.

I totally understand! The Lions lost Stanford to LA and he won a Super Bowl right off the bat. Something the Lions have never done. Anyways, sorry for derailing your thread!

No, I derailed my own thread!

Yeah, so you can definitely feel my pain... similar situation. Ah well. I still enjoy watching Detroit every Thanksgiving! You're playing Buffalo this year. That'll be a tough game. Allen is dangerous. We're playing Minnesota. My football obsession is second only to my gemstone obsession.

Thank you for your honesty! I'm not really loving this particular shade (it's quite a soft violet/periwinkle) with a saturated red or pink. But I do have about 30 (1.5-2mm) fancy pink diamond melee that might look nice with it. I had been saving them for something special... just not sure this is it.

It would pop if the color of the Sapphire is correct in the picture.

White Daimonds are colorless, yet people add color to a single Diamond with color in a three stone ring all the time.

Of course, it is your stone. :)

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but I think paraiba looks fabulous with purples and periwinkles. Yavorskyy showed this tray on Instagram a couple of years ago and it caught my attention.490631F5-77EE-4ABA-8604-87F081BE3E99.jpeg

I think someone did mention it. I can’t remember who. How gorgeous!

It reminds me of pictures I’ve seen of Greece. There might be a little color enhancement going on.3F24F324-AFFA-4F04-9C1C-87A888EC00BE.jpeg

Ah yes, I'll take the bottom left spinel and bottom right paraiba, please.

Those two would be my top pick too, but I would take any of them!!
I think you are going for a different look than that, but I still thought I’d share the eye candy :)). I can’t wait to see what you decide to go with!

CRD has some ‘orange’ spinels that are very pad-like. I set them with an amethyst last year and it’s one of my favorites.

I did consider them, thank you! And your ring is gorgeous!!

You guys are killing me! These are stunning examples of color pairing done right. And it seems there is an infinite number of beautiful combos out there. I actually already paired matching paraiba traps with a baby pink tourmaline, so I'd want to do something different with this stone. But I'm loving the inspo!
