Gee, DF, this thread makes me wonder what MEN lie about the size of???

2.gif

Yep!
only if...he''s a Dem.

Only one person has ever asked me the size of my diamond and that was right after I got it and the gal was and still is my best friend. I told her the size and it was no big deal. We''ve been friends for SO long and talked about everything, including finances, details about boyfriends!!!
6.gif

Aside from that encounter, after I got my first set of studs, a relative asked the color and clarity (those are F VS2) and she just turned and looked away after I told her. She hasn''t asked about my .82 tcw Whiteflash earrings
2.gif
lol. I''m the only one, aside from a relative who recently got engaged, who has any diamonds and all of mine stand out! hehehe

FUNNY! And no, I don''t lie about the size of mine.

Nope, I don''t feel the need to lie about it.

HOWEVER, there are many women who when asked will tell you the TOTAL carat weight of their ring sets, not just of the center stone...which isn''t lying but does lead to misperceptions about stone sizes.

Personally, I''ve never lied about my e-ring''s size, but then again, I haven''t really been asked about it, other than by my mom and a couple very close friends. I would never volunteer the information. I haven''t really encountered anyone that I thought was lying about their stone size, but maybe I''ve been much too trusting!

I must say I do not like the smutty tone which has broken in and lowered the tone of this topic. Back to the serious issue of whether women lie about the size/weight of their e-ring!

I must admit that I''ve lied about the size of mine...by underestimating it.

Me too. The center is 3.12ct, but saying "...Point twelve" makes me feel lame(except on here), so I say "three" which, I mean, come on...is about right without being a prig about it....

Hmmmh. You have got me there. But I wonder if you have a smaller one but you put a halo around it or sidestones, does that count?
Is size all that matters, or what you do with it?

LMAO at this thread!!! DF, you are too funny...

(And Steel, keep it up!! This is providing me entertainment while FI is playing video games.)

I have never lied about the size of a stone.

But I did have a friend (?) who when I told her the size of my ER stone and the guards,
she said "No Way" !! I repeated the center pear was a .96ct Pear and the guards were .75ct each.
She still insisted I didn''t know what I was talking about even after I told her I would get the certs for her.
Needless to say, she''s not a friend any longer.
Her current stone is a very shallow, gigantic 5ct. Pear.

ROFL! You guys are hilarious!

Honestly, until this thread, I never even thought about a woman (intentionally) "lying" about the size of her diamond
23.gif
but I suppose it does happen.

If someone asks me (and I have had people ask), I just say my 2.36 RB is a "smidge over 2 carats".

I guess if I was just randomly asked by someone I guess I would look at them and blink a few times nice and slow followed by something like: ''Big enough to sparkle, or Big enough to make me smile every time I look at it''.

I think that''s a great answer. I might never need it, but if I do, well, now I know what to say.

The stones I own are all estimated weights and I do round up. I think, would have the check the receipt, that my centre stone is .46 or .47. When asked I usually say 1/2 carat. My wedding band is estimated .11, I say .10. Another ring is own is estimated .32, and I say 1/3 carat. So yes, I guess I do lie.

OMG OMG. This is the funniest thread ever.

Maybe because her diamond was wearing such a big girdle it made it look a size smaller!
27.gif

I have never lied about my ring cause I am happy with it the way it is.

I rounded mine up when asked. It''s .728 and I say it''s 3/4 carat. I haven''t been askied my many. But most people don''t understand the decimal carat sizing. It''s either 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 . . . you get it. And to the one person that did understand it I said .728 and he said "so basically 3/4". So there you have it. It''s just easier. :)

I never lie about my ring because I have only had it for like a week!! But i find it funny when people ask "how much is it?" like that has anything to do with the quality. I mean it does, but you can find a really nice, small diamond that is a much better quality than some big cloudy ring.

Story for you all: when my aunt and uncle got engaged (LONNNNG time ago, like 16 years) My uncle couldn''t afford a diamond, so they went out and got a CZ that she had for YEARS befor they got the real diamond. EXCEPT they told everyone it was a diamond. This aunt is pretty tacky though- i was with her today and she was wearing her engagement ring, an eternity ring, and THREE other rings on the SAME finger. THe three rings were really one ring, but it was like an eternity ring on either side of a five stone ring and I was like REALLY?!?! It went up to her knuckle. A little too much in my opinion.

ALthough, they would all be pretty on their own!
12.gif

I love my ring, size and all....I have no reason to lie about it.

i don''t lie. i wanted a small (0.38) and sparkly (D) lucida and that''s exactly what i have. it''s beautiful.

Hmmmh. You have got me there. But I wonder if you have a smaller one but you put a halo around it or sidestones, does that count?

hahaha!

I don''t lie about ct weight.

I have had a few people in my work setting ask how big my stone is and I usually just reply that I don''t know because my fiance picked it out. My close friends have never asked and I imagine that I would tell them if they asked but other than that it really isn''t a thing I feel comfortable talking about. I had one girl from work comment that it must be at least 2 carats. I just said, yeah probably around there. I didn''t feel the need to tell her that it is 2.75 cause really it makes me feel uncomfortable in that type of situation.

I have never had anyone tell me outright what the weight of their e-ring is. That just seems so odd to me. If anything I get embarrased when people comment on how big it is because I love it and think mine is perfect for me. Anyway...to answer the question I have not lied about the ct weight of my ring but I don''t offer the information either.

LOL! When I wear my rings I do get the occasional comment.

With my EC I get "Is that a diamond?" [yes] or "What kind of stone is that?" [a diamond] and then I get "OMG, how big is it?" [6.39 + 52 points of baguettes - so I tell them it is about 6.5 carats]. People often also ask me what kind of cut it is.

With my RB I get "WOW, that's an amazing diamond." or "OMG, that is huge! How big is it? It must be at least 3 carats!" [I tell them it's 6.89, which it is]

Then they call over their friends/colleagues to have a look. LOL!

I have to say that everybody that has ever asked seems to have a genuine interest and is thrilled to have the opportunity to the stones. It is such an honor to have such pieces and I love to share. [Yes, I have gotten the same remarks from salespeople in jewelry stores.]

As far as people lying about the size of their stones . . . who knows. I never ask the question so I can't comment.

Although, my SIL [3rd wife] did say that hers is a bit over 2.5 carats and is a Hearts on Fire [doncha know!]. She gave the price for both the stone [paid way too much] and the setting [Kretchmer platinum tension]. The size looked to be about right. I did not ask any questions. She did not haul out the cert! LOL!

I don''t offer information about the size, but if I am asked I will round up to 1.25 since, as others have posted, most people get a blank stare when you start talking decimals. BTW, it''s 1.19.

size means nothing if it doesn''t PERFORM. women don''t like the dead looking ones.
In the interest of full disclosure when mentioning size do you have also have to mention if your performance has been enhanced? If a lady has a 2ct clarity enhanced, for example? And what if she does not know it is not all natural. Would the gentleman mention to her that the performance was enhanced artificially? Hmmmm
