Even my husband wants to watch the coronation! I like the BRF but I adored Queen Elizabeth. I also adore Catherine.

I don't know that we'll be watching it live but we will see it that day. The Kentucky Derby is also that day and it's our tradition to watch that, as well. (It will be an unusual day!)

Hope all the Royal ladies are wearing something fabulous!

Obviously I can't speak for the whole of Scotland :-), but I wouldn't be surprised if at the time of the pledge you instead hear FREEDOM a la Mel Gibson style (Brave heart).

Personally, I won't be swearing no allegiance to nobody. I wouldn't be curtseying either. In my experience (again I can't speak for the whole country) but in Scotland there is little enthusiasm/interest in the coronation or the royal family.

I saw the soccer game clip where the fans were chanting “you can shove the coronation up your ass”

Yeah, I don't agree with the crudeness but it's not surprising. Looking at the news/papers you'd think every.single.person in the UK is foaming at the mouth with coronation fever - we're not. And it is a bit hard to swallow when newspapers talk about the "whole of Britain" when they actually mean England. I'll be glad when it's over.

I think those looking out for the jewels might be a bit disappointed though. I heard on the news during the week that Kate is wearing a floral wreath instead of a tiara and that many of the ladies are expected to do the same.

I've said before and will say again, I'm sure they are all nice people and having seen snippets of an interview with Anne, she does seem to genuinely believe in the idea of 'royal'. But to me, it's all a nonsense. In my mind the monarchy has little to no relevance in modern society, other than to boost tourism (and sell newspapers).

I’m so excited! Taking the family to watch at a street party style event with big screens. We all have our red white and blue outfits ready. It’s really an excuse to get dressed up and do something fun together. And the children should remember it. It’s not every day a new king is crowned - anywhere in the world really.

Then there is this…IMG_5675.png

Royal bling for the coronation -- the ring Camilla will receive as Queen.

Di should have been there.
She's rolling over in her grave, clenching her teeth. :angryfire:

Imagine her as queen. :kiss2:

I'm disappointed that it is so much less formal because it would really be something to see with all the other European royals attending---can you imagine all those jewels??? Especially Queen Maxima, if she's attending, because she lives up to her name with bling.

I watched 90% of the Abbey service.
Nice rocks, y'all.

The music in the Abbey was exquisite and sublime both in performance and in the-state-of-the-art sound capture. :kiss2:
Especially that dreamy and precise choral work!
Huge kudos to Shoeps, that German microphone company, and the expert audio engineers; what a great job taming the Abby's cavernous and challenging acoustics!

Not actually a nit ... everyone memorizing, instead of reading, their brief lines would have made it appear more heartfelt and authentic, rather than a dicey performance for show.
These days (especially with monarchy itself more in question than ever) optics are everything when it comes to winning hearts and souls ... the while point of this spectacle.

Hopefully William will recognize this, and nail it when it's his turn.

Camilla, your panicked darting eyes were particularly bad optics - if not for you then for the monarchy.
Have a drink, take a pill, or something.

Yes, such a sadness there. I can’t help but feel for William and Harry. They must feel such conflicting emotions as this all really happens.

I thought it was a beautiful & moving ceremony. I echo @kenny regarding the acoustics in the Abbey & the singing was truly spine tingling.

A job well done & it makes me proud to be British.

Now back to reality & off to Ikea for guest room wardrobes :lol-2:

I don’t know all the protocol of course but disappointed that Harry wasn’t invited to the balcony. I understand that he isn’t a working royal but he is family and the spare. Seems cold and short sided. He may not have gone there anyway but not invited? He has, of course, separated from the monarchy and perhaps it is ‘what’s done’ but still …

HI:

Watched bits and snippets. I must find a video of the singing..... And gosh Kate and William's children are adorable!!!!

cheers--Sharon

This was the star of the show. Sadly, on Camilla and not on Diana, and I can’t help but wonder if she would actually be there had not Camilla destroyed her marriage. For all the hatred against Meghan, no one focuses on this immoral woman who slept her way up to the throne.

Ouch! Very strong words!

There is a local radio station who loves to mock the royals. They have dubbed her “horse face” and they always play a neighing horse when they talk about her. My comment was mild compared to their characterization. I guess everyone has moved on. All are forgiven except Meghan and Harry. Harry was seated in the same row as the icky Andrew. Sigh.

I’m watching the re-run now on PBS. TOTALLY AGREE on the music, especially the choral pieces. :kiss2:

I don’t watch the Crown. I did watch Di’s documentary.

There was some spectacular music early on, before the representatives of foreign countries were seated.

@Daisys and Diamonds - I love that New Zealand’s representatives included a reference to your country’s indigenous people in their clothing for the ceremony.

For visual impact, of course, it’s hard to beat opera singer Pretty Yende’s dress — though “dress” hardly captures its splendor — every bit as spectacular as her singing!

+1. I was amazed at the studio-quality sound in such a huge hard-walled building. There must have been lots of carefully placed mikes and a very busy person at the mixing desk. I'm sure that we who watched the broadcast heard everything far more clearly than those who actually there.

All the choral singing was so clearly enunciated and precise. And yes, Zadok the Priest performed in its proper setting was splendid.

I had tears in my eyes the singing was so beautiful.

The music was fantastic! And it was delightful to see the Wales' children---all so adorable!

You are right @kenny , Charles & the Archbishop of Canterbury should have memorized at least the most important bits of the ceremony because visibly reading them does make it look less sincere.

I wish the dress code had been more formal because there were not nearly enough jewels & we didn't even get to see fabulous gowns. The robes and whatnot were neat to see but at least give the royal ladies tiaras. Just my 2 cents. ;) (What better time to break out the bling than the crowning of a monarch???)

Congratulations to all those in the UK & the Commonwealth on your new King!

Yes! I loved her sparkly jewels, too. Her dress looked like a daffodil! I thought it was perfectly dramatic.
